Once the misfires & rattling stopped and those 6 cylinders started popping together , it immediately transformed into a sweet music to my hears. Gosh I could listen this engine run at idle for hours ! I just love that big ol' diesel truck sound, these low RPMs, mechanical injectors noises, puffs of smokes outta the exhaust, raw power, damn Tesla drivers r really missing something.
Old school diesel, they all started this way when cold. No dpf, no def, no computer control. They were reliable, more like bulletproof. Then big government got involved. Now the big money involving trucking is in towing. Invest half million in a tow rig, you'll be very busy.
It’s not designed to start this way 😅 surely your engine is old but you got a fuel problem buddy 😂 … imagine if they sold them new and they would say it’s start like that when cold … cool video by the way😊
@gabreno8670 Around 0* Fahrenheit, they all used to start this way. "100% mechanical." Some without a little ether wouldn't start at all. I still own two VE pumped 6BT Cummins. I don't have to be anywhere any longer, but if I did and it was cold out, say around that temperature, I would expect the exact results of this cold start video. New trucks all start easily.
I'm about to get an old White with a 6V-92TTA. Hopefully it is good... Once, I saw an old govt owned semi with a 2 stroke.... it sat at 25F for a while, cold soaked. Started right up.... not even plugged in or under cover...
Thats really weird to me because mine starts right up with almost no smoke down to 10 degrees fahrenheit. I wonder if i have a different tune. Even at colder temps she lights off reasonably quickly. I do alot of work for Detroit Diesel. Ill have to ask them what the difference is.
That engine must be quite worn out. Befor I went to work for GM testing Detroit's for compliance with EPA emission standards, I saw them in Awry Bakery trucks. Back then they had an ether "pellet" to use on cold days. Later I saw Cummins 250's that had a can of ether mounted right on the engine for cold starts. I can tell you that if this was a normal starting 6/71 when I was testing, it would not be certified for sale. But, I am a purist at heart, that is not pollution, it's unburned Diesel fuel and maybe engine oil, not the same as a gasoline Hydro Carbon, Co or Nox emission at all. Most of it is particulate and it falls out of the air to the ground. I personally would keep using it if it clears up after it gets hot hot hot, and I'd use starting fluid and maybe even propane to get it up and running on cold days. But, that sound!!! Somewhere on youtube there are two trucks that someone recorded as they drove by, one is a 4 cycle and the other a Detroit 2 cycle. There is no comparison in sound, the 4 cycles sound like Helicopter flying by with it's chop chop chop, then comes the Detroit, M M M M M M M. It's really amazing when you hear them one after the other like in that video. I'll take the Detroit anytime and twice on Sunday over the 4 cycle chop chop chop, even if it did smoke. But, I tested them against a dyno for emission certification, so I have a special place for that sound in my heart. Thanks GM for allowing me to run your awesome prestigious Detroit's at the Milford Proving Ground Vehicle Emission Laboratory VEL, bldg. 31, it was a blast and I'll never forget it. ben/ michigan
I respond the same way to the cold
It comes with age .
😅😂😂
😂😂
Gotta love the DISTINCT SOUND of a DETROIT DIESEL ENGINE
Yes
It's the most iconic sound ever ❤❤❤❤❤❤ My favorite engine...

Agreed

Excellent
@@LacroixCruiserLa, je suis sur 4 cylindres. 😂
Cold start. Hot start. Sounds AWESOME either way.
Thank you
Diesels, the workmen of the mechanical world. Love them.
True
CMON OL BESSY
No issues.
@@LacroixCruiser oh I know, my granddad had an old Cummins John Deere that started up similar!
Very nice video, I read your comments and learned that it is designed to start this way cold. Very interesting thank you
Thank you for watching
That's how people in Kazakhstan say hello.
Thank you.
Familiar sound 😊. I feel that way before coffee 😁

That engine is electronically controlled witch is harder to start than my 1990 mechanical cat starts easier than this thing does
It starts easy, it’s designed to start this way.
Half a million? Low balling a little

Yep
I love the noise
It’s got a nice ring to it.
Nice Cold Start!
Thank you
That’s kinda tame compared to my series 60 when it’s cold. I’ve got 8” straight pipes and when it fires on a 0* day it scares people away.
I would love to hear that!
This is the way I wake up every day, a cold blooded cold start, sounding in the same way as this engine did 😊❤
Right on!
They are hearty motors.
Yes they are.
Sounds like my old cold blooded power wagon.
Cold starts are never pleasant.
That's Amazing!!
Thank you
Must be a Series 60, i was expecting a grumpy 2-stroke. Still sounds good, good engine too.
Yes
sweet 💯
Thanks 💯
This MCI 102DL3 bus has the Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine.
Correct
Lol wat🤣🤣🤣this wasn't even a good start for an old 2 stroker Detroit much less a 60 😬
Shes hit 😕
When it’s cold, it’s programmed to start this way.

Detroit make a robust engine.
well now that's the first for me that was a long start
It fired quickly, then did it’s thing. The starter was just on a few seconds.
Not fond of these two stroke engines but man that's pretty impressive for a Detroit.
This is a 4 stroke series 60
@@LacroixCruiser Lmao guess I got thrown off by the idle once all cylinders started firing. My bad, dude.

We were told by a mechanic at Detroit diesel that this was normal . This was well under zero
What advantages it have by starting on 2 cyl , is starter motors inadequate
As two cylinders reduces the probability of firing in cylinder
I was expecting a Kazakh reporter
Lol
60 series

It’s programed to start this way, this is a series 60 4 stroke, but a 2 stroke has an unforgettable music at 2000 rpm
Why 2 then 4 then 6? Is that just the character of this particular engine or all Detroits when cold?
This model
6-71?
Series 60
When is the last time you changed fuel filter ? / air filter ? You are supposed to keep them clean at all times you know for better fuel economy.
Fuel and oil filters get changed every 10,000 miles, air filter is inspected regularly and changed as needed.
it's designed to start with two and after few seconds the rest kicks in
What makes you think they haven’t?
She needs a tuneup
That’s the way it’s supposed to start

Don’t.
It’s all how you look at it.
Why do we even bother about air pollution in europe ... This engine pollutes more in 1 Minute than my car in a whole year.
Not really
Because you guys are cucked. And you’re all simps.
is it just me or does this sound like a 12v cummins at idle
It’s a series 60 Detroit
