    Cold start Trick that works every time on old diesels........100% on old Perkins V8 540 diesel engines.....
    Put a ignited cigarette lighter in the air intake plenum chamber , starts first time every time even on coldest mornings 😎👍

      To make it clear I have been on my bike a few years ago near an old 1990s diesel bus going uphill with me and it smelled like coal and jet fuel and it gave me a bit of a headache once I got back and my dad had an old 2003 diesel Mercedes and I was waiting for the bus to go to work and it smelled like jet fuel it didn’t give me a headache or anything bad but just an early 2000s diesel car or van blasting by the sidewalk will smell like jet fuel
      But if they aren’t more than 40 years old they won’t get a free pass into London for now at the time of commenting

      Wonderfully tasty smoke that smells good and is also addictive. It's a pity that so little came out, should have been much, much and much more!!

    The orange National on the left in the first video, is one of the Pennine Motors fleet, now gone sadly.

    I remember getting smoked in Norwood Garage by a Leyland Olympian. I had to shut the door of the bus I was on at the time......

    The roof pod continued into the 1980s with the National 2. They introduced a cheaper cost B series in 1978 that deleted the roof heater and had more conventional features like a simple floor mounted heating unit in the saloon.

    Fabulous sounds but seemingly very poor starting of the Leyland Nationals. Maybe lost a bit of compression over the years? Or poor Glowies?

    Good to see some Leyland Nationals. The first one was filthier than most. Although several of the other buses and coaches shown had cooling fans for their radiators, none of the others have their fan showing like a National does.

    Brits do diesels like the Germans do fashion, the French do government and the Scots do food: crude, rude and rough.

      Jup.
      German diesel, completely different animal.
      Even our old diesel locomotives start smoother and blow less smoke than these buses.

      @@alouisschafer7212 Yeah, the Brits seem to build the strangest, crudest diesels around. I think American diesels, especially their industrial and rail diesels.

    The awful Leyland 510 Engine fitted to the MK1 Leyland National's was the worst Engine I came across for cold starts and reliability in general. If I had been in charge of purchasing vehicles instead of just driving them, I would never have bought the Leyland National MK1. However, when the MK2 National was introduced with Engine options, I would have considered the "Gardner" Engine version.

    • @jaggass
      @jaggass 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      510's start up like old Locomotives. The Gardner engine wasn't offered til 1982 on the MK2 National and Leyland took Gardner to court because of that. The later MK2 Nationals up here had Gardner engines and were very good. Easy to start and would turn a depot blue afterwards but soon cleared.
