One question , what’s wrong with M3 screw in that application? A single 6.8 grade metric m3 can withstand 3020N pulling force, thats around 300kg of weight hanging in that thread. Not that I would trust the Chinese screw but, people crossly underestimate the fasteners holding capacity. I have one of those dampers in my shelf and was thinking about upgrading the piston by turning one from brass and updating the seals to proper lip seals. To me the extrusion seems fine and it’s a budjet build for 25 year old beater. And to be honest, the damping feel and adjustability seems fine.
sorry for not replying sooner - it isnt just the grub screw its the fact also that the thread was so poorly cut that the grub screw did not fit securely. I'm sure you can appreciate that different Chinese brand will offer different build quality but this one was shockingly poor.
@@parkittdynoandsuspension Yes surely can. I used the extrusion and valve to make my own modifications to the unit. Shaft and housing are ok stuff. But I do have the advantage of owning a machine shop with cnc machines.
I think that's a mute point now, looking at images on Ohlins website all the newer dampers seem to have the anodised parts... only the older ones are brass. Problem with the vid is he has 2 different models, the knock off is a knock off of a more modern damper.
Awesome job exposing their junk compared to original Ohlins. And you're 100% right when you say buying this will result in your death. Just imagine that ball end pulling off and jamming up your yokes from moving. Death on a door knob..
If you exceed the m3 threads load carrying capacity of around 300kg, when steering then you are no longer the rider anyway, just the passanger of what’s left of the bike as there is no situation where steering damper sees 3000N of force in normal use.
I have chinease on my yamaha R1 for 50$ now for 2 years its works awsome. And if i have problem inreplace at this price i will not buy steering damper like ohlins ect...its raquet what justify pay 1k for this.... no reason at all.
have a look at my other comments.... i honestly say yes, some new dampers are WAAAYYYY to much money but these £30 ones are a liability. soemthing built a bit better and perhaps around the £100 - 150 mark is spot on. I persoanly rate ther Hyperpro ones.
Every roll racing guys take the ohlins out and use the cheap copy for 40 bucks. We never had issues and i have seen them on pretty much every race bike . Im talking Thousands
Glad to hear :0) we have only ever seen shit ones come thorugh the shop.... but then we are biased as they only come to us when they break. Sadly, the ones we see are built awfully.... so that our opiuon and we resperct yours too.
Not a fan of Ohlins at all. Scotts GPR PSR They don't copy GPR or scotts casue it's good stuff. Can't copy it. Ohlins made like crap had nothing but bad luck with them.
I'd say chinese stuff is good, we arn't million dollar track day stars and that chinese knockoff will do just fine for us everyday nobodies, God bless the Chinese and may God continue to give them more affordable cheap stuff❤.
personally, i find them poor quality and prone to leaking.... but i dont diagree about cost. if onyl there were 50% better and 50% m,ore expensive. id pay for a non-branded item if it was well made but lacked that ulitmate refinment if it was around £100 - £150 but these things at £30 are a liability in my opinion.

The Problem is durability in SHEAR, as well as the amount of Threads engaged …. 🤓
What does SD 055 mean? I’m looking to buy a steering damper but I’m not sure what SD 055 is or what’s the difference between other numbers
@@fabianvillarreal3162 it’s the individual part number
The Ohlins SD 030 damper uses an anodized adjuster knob

@@V8HiluxZX6R thats correct.... im happy to show a follow up on this as we have afe wmore knock offs now.
Please help me if there is an Ohlins steering dumper with the code SD 808
there is a 008 but not a 808
I want to buy an Ohlins steering damper with code 808. Does that mean it's fake? The seller said it was taken from a motorbike
Sound like your old LP needs some work as well!
@rudyhonings yeah - the chap who did this used to crap music but i dont have the original now.
I have had my fake ohlins for over three years and have had no problems as have my friends.
Thats Good to hear - we hope it stays that way :0) Not all fakes are this bad.... Ride Safe
No Problems …. until you DO. Then what (at 100mph) …. ? 🤔
Nice video with very good information 👍👍 but who had the bright idea of putting that anoying music in the background, go send him home at once
Noted :0)

oh he works and is paid for by ohlins.
nope - we are an independant servcie centre - we are not paid a penny by Ohlins
Fear sells...there are no real stories of the knock off failing...
We didn’t do this to sell dampers, just highlight what’s out there.
I’d take the Chinese damper any day. 😂
i cant imagine why.... they are so poorly built
@@parkittdynoandsuspension Its not as important of a financial investment to those of us who are just hobbyists.

I have the "chinese fake" and that is original one😉 Öhlins even have this product on official offer.
this damper is not ohlins......
It is such a simple mechanism it doesnt woth 600 dollars! It is clearly a rip off ! I would buy a chinese one!

Yes, those 9 year old labourers do some good work.
