As someone in the market for a camera these videos are very helpful. If you aren’t in the market for a camera then of course you won’t want to see a sponsored video for a camera. Channels like this require sponsors to pay the bills, since you and I watch for FREE
Ian, thank you so much. You always have your finger on the pulse of what’s going on. I’ve been recently looking into getting one of these and I’ll probably start off with the one you started with is the X2 as there’s a really good sale right now but this X4 looks phenomenal thank you so much for this really in-depth video. It helped out so much. Looking forward to next one as always.
I recently won an Insta360 camera, but when I saw the huge amount of data that is being collected by Insta360/Istone/Arashi Vision (headquartered in Shenzhen, China) I decided to sell it immediately. No one with a common sense should buy or recommend this crap.
The biggest issues that I see with the X4 are battery life (which is a minor problem easy to solve), audio quality (which I solved by linking a DJI Mic Mini via Bluetooth) and especially that the lens guards are not "dust tight". This last one is quite an issue as it does not have any solution, and it became a very big problem during my recent trip to Morocco with lots of dust and particles getting onto the lenses.
Again, another excellent video. Thank you. But one question I have…..I’m looking for a camera to use as like a dash camera on my motorcycle whether it be on my helmet or bike ( I think I’d prefer on my bike) just looking for something in case there’s an accident. Is this the one I want or do I look for like the DGI 4 or 5 style instead? I have no desire to do what you do. I don’t have the time nor the patience. Thank you
Thank you for the support. For a dash cam system I would not use this 360 camera. Yes, you could use a DJI Osmo 4 or 5. Also, you might want to check out the Chigee system, they make a unit that comes with hardwired front and rear cameras as well as android auto/ apple carplay.
It’s just amazing how good small cameras are now. I imagine they are indispensable for you. Imagine if you had to carry around a big VHS camera for filming your videos! You would need a crew and lots of takes.
I had the X3, lost it somewhere on 101 in Oregon. Someone’s probably happy about that. I wasn’t super thrilled with the X3. Less the camera’s fault, but the mixed systems-environments with the DJI OA 4, it was just a royal mess in editing. For now, I don’t think I’ll get the X4, but wait for the DJI 360, which is said to be released soon (hopefully).
If I end up buying one I'll be sure to use your link, but will need to wait a bit for real world reviews online. I really do respect your work and understanding this is a business, but I find it a big conflict of interest for a video review of a product to be sponsored by the company that makes it. I hope that doesn't come across too harsh but I must voice my concern.
Increasingly these vloggers seem to be making these reviews because the product was sent to them for free, and obviously does not need to be paid for or returned. I’d like to know how many reviews were planned and the vlogger paid upfront for,the product. I know Ian does buy products then reviews them. The product makers are often calling the shots now and I can’t see how the vloggers will,be prepared to say no or pay for,the goods if they want to keep it.
If you want him to be fully independent then he will just review the same bike each video. Not every video will appeal to everyone. Unless you’re in the market for a new camera then obviously this video will not appeal to you. There are thousands of viewers who do not share your opinions.
Definitely a GoPro killer. Just make sure you’re using the Action Selfie stick in carbon fibre and not the one in aluminum. I made this mistake and my X4 took a tumble at speed. They initially were not going to cover under warranty but then did under good faith. I now have the carbon fibre selfie-stick and it’s rock solid.
My gf bought this for our trip around South America. We wanted to like it, but actually find it trash. Various software bugs, and the camera itself can't handle the vibration and bumps of riding unpaved roads, the bottom mount wants to tear itself right out of the camera. Probably best suited to riding on sealed road only or the occasional gravel road. Even then the stabilisation, as you see in most video clips using the 360 isn't great, it always looks very bouncy/floaty to me.
Congrats on the employee of the YEAR IAN !!!🎉🎉🎉 I enjoyed your content and also it has somewhat kept me going in my journey on the YT platform even though I ain’t but a fly in the wall…😂Good stuff as always
I've been thinking about getting a camera like this, I've got a trip to France next year with my brother and it would be nice to have the capability of capturing some of the trip.
I have the possibility to use for free an Insta360 X3 and will use it to practice with the post production of the 360 mode, but I definitely plan to buy an X4 because of the versatility of shots it can give. BTW I saw that CRF300L: yummy review upcoming?

Congratulations on employee of the month !!
So many sponsored videos of Insta360... From running, cycling, motorcycling. Seriously, doesn't inspire trust. Nothing against you Ian, but still.

True
Dude I have this camera and it’s awesome!!
Ready to give Ian a break. Plenty praising videos out there by fanboys who don't even get sponsored. He is at least transparant about it.
@ lol

Just use the camera and not the software?
The lighting and background in the studio when you're speaking looks wonderful! Really nice and clean!
Thanks for noticing, I appreciate it!
They must be paying these youtubers so much.

Thank you for the effort in creating another excellent video. The mounting & usage examples are especially useful.
Glad you liked it!

Many motto vloggers using them as they are so good… just buy one
I like your new lighting setup.
Informative....and congrats on the employee of the month! With all the competition you had......any bonuses with the prize? 😁 Garth
Starting to get too much sponsorships! Losing the truly independent advantage.

Video editing program?
You can sync you DJI mic2 as well. And it does have a volume meter
Alas my forever quirky GoPro 10's are near the end of their useful life, these Insta360's are making more and more sense

Hello, do you do your own editing if so what do you use? Love your content, I trust your opinion on adventure motto. Thank you.
Will you be trying out the insta360 X4 BMW version too?
I have the x3 version. I'm bummed my one lens has a scuff on it. :( I wonder if Insta360 offers a service to re-polish, or exchange the lens?

Someone suggested that you need a PC with 32GB of ram to edit videos. Is that true? All I have is a crappy $200 laptop
Great interesting review thanks

Great explanation on the Insta 360. I may have to pick one up for Revzilla GetOn ADV Fest in July. Happy trails
If any of you guys question Ian's honesty... well, I'll pray for you.
GoPro is better
