Everything in the desert will try to sting you poke you or bite you.
Not only should you avoid pigs and snakes, but sticking your hands in rock crevices and holes in the ground isn’t a good idea either. We have venomous rattle and coral snakes, scorpions, tarantulas, kissing bugs, black widow and brown recluse spiders, coyotes, Gila monsters, desert centipedes, African killer bees, and cacti. Plus, hiking during the current unprecedented scorching heat wave is a good way to die from heat stroke even with a bottle of water. Or end up in the ER with a severe 2nd degree sunburn. I am not happy that they are calling Javelina "pigs" and that they are putting there fingers into animal holes. That is just not okay and being to close to Javelina can frighten them and if they are cornered they are going to run right at you. I love calling Arizona home, but I also know the rules and regulations and I respect the Plants and animals that call not only the Sonoran Desert home but the whole state.
Did he just try and pet a Javelina? And went hiking in the middle of the day without water!? As a 6th generation Arizonan glad that Brits have a scientist to describe how their actions could affect humanities gene pool.
