ALWAYS use a credit card when buying anything. If a fraud is reported in a timely manner the credit card companies are required to remove the charge from your account. If a fraud is committed against your ATM/debit card, it’s the same as the thieves stealing money from out of your own pocket. The banks are not required to return the money.
Some good banks monitor spending habits. Once the amount seems suspicious they either freeze your card or alert you. Had this happen to me once, someone charged a plane ticket and they froze the card. Had to call them and they sent me a new card.

Wow! Scammers make it so hard for an honest business to get customers because we are all so worried about being scammed. I know myself I will no longer pay any way other than cash at a Rally's restaurant because each time, i had fraudulent charges on my card. The first time i was in Indiana and had charges coming from Tennessee, and thank goodness my bank shut off my card when they saw them coming in. The next time, I took my mom to the Cleveland Clinic, and we stopped at a Rally's in town, and once again, it happened to me. I have learned my lesson not again.
@ajspice the first time it happened to me, I was in Tennessee, and this young lady took my debit card at a Rally's restaurant and immediately started to walk away out of my sight with my card. I said hey where you going with my card? She said this register doesn't work. I have to go to the other side to charge it. I then asked for a receipt. She was gone about 4 minutes. About a week later I had fraudulent charges from a Dollar General, a smoke shop, and some other business. My card was destroyed, and a new number was assigned. Then, about 2 years later, I stopped in Cleveland, Ohio, at a Rally's restaurant and use a credit card I hadn't used in a week. A few days later, I have fraudulent charges again on my credit card, but this time coming from some online merchant I never heard of. I then tied both incidents to a Rally's restaurant. I tried to reach out to them and was given a corporate phone number to report this. They said they would look into it and get back to me, which they never did. The Rally's restaurant was a treat to me because they aren't close by where I live. Never again am I paying them any way but cash.
very poor report with no details on 1) who is perpetrating the 'scam'. 2) precisely how is the increased charge a 'scam"? 3) steps you can take to prevent 'falling for' this 'scam'.
A decline can only be done by the bank or credit union. If they didn't do it then the transaction was intercepted between the store and the credit card company.
When I make purchases, I only have a limited amount on that card, nothing more than I absolutely need for that specific purpose The rest of your money should be in a different account apart from the account that’s being used for your purchase Let’s say you need a few things from the store…. If you know the prices of those items, or you look them up and find out the prices, add them up and only have a limited amount of money on your card and keep your card locked until you’re ready to use it You can go to the store at a time they’re not busy when you can get in and out quickly, so you can unlock your card either at the checkout or right before
There are way to many ways for hackers to get a hold of your bank account now, including foreign governments so I took my bank account totally off line. And the absurd thing about it is that I had to talk to someone in the Philippines to do it.
This scam makes zero sense, This sound more like a glitch than a scam. The consumer can just dispute the charge with their bank if they were charged a incorrect amount and the funds will be returned to the consumer and if they get enough complaints their Payment processing company will close their accounts
So you all want "digital cash" which is exactly like a credit card. YOU WILL HAVE TO CHECK EVERY PURCHASE DAILY TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT SCAMMED! Really a good idea! Yep!
I have had my card declined so many times for no reason the past & always kept track of my purchases. No one is scamming me. Im way too broke for that 😂
it's not necessarily INTENTIONALLY scamming someone but it could be a case of horrible network latency causing a card to be charged multiple times for one purchase and sure it could happen to any retailer at any time thats just a fact of life for a civilization that depends on computer networks to handle their business
This doesn't happen on any actual POS (point of sale). On a website, a form contains a randomized identifier that gets sent alongside the request to purchase something, which the server uses to identify unique requests and duplicate requests, such as if you were to spam the button without refreshing the page. Source: I make them.
Then there was the Costco customer who's card was accepted on the first and only scan and then later the charge was repeated 18 times! Neither Costco or her bank would help her until she got the local TV station's consumer reporter involved.
Same for me, only I use Discover. Awesome CC company. Always on my side. If I dispute a BS charge, they will reverse it. No questions asked. I bought an expensive air purifier this year and didn't like it, and even though the manual clearly said I could return it for a full refund, the company refused. I sent Discover an email explaining and a copy of the page from the manual, and they reversed the charge within a day and ended up siding with me.
This is what I thought too BUT…… for the last couple of months I’ve noticed that if I buy using oaypal, but end up returning the product, they don’t refund my money instead the company I purchased using my PayPal only gives me store credit. So far this has happened with Bass Pro & Marshalls
Probably occuring on shady sites or compromised machines. Maybe a fake credit card intake form, followed by a fake declined message. The scammer uses the credit card information later on for whatever amount they want. I wish this report were clearer, as is it's just fear mongering.

You can go to the store at a time they’re not busy when you can get in and out quickly, so you can unlock your card either at the checkout or right before
There are way to many ways for hackers to get a hold of your bank account now, including foreign governments so I took my bank account totally off line. And the absurd thing about it is that I had to talk to someone in the Philippines to do it.
So no Debit card, no Credit card, and no ATM card, no online purchasing? You use cash for everything?
@@romad275 l have no debit card. I only use a credit card for online purchases.
Set spending limits with your bank fairly low so only you can approve anything above that limit
it's defeating the purpose of inconvenient to use credit card
You keep mentioning a holiday but you never mention what holiday you are talking about
This is why I use PayPal.
That’s not any safer. The fact is any electronic payment system is susceptible to fraud.
@@VOTOG-ic6hmYeah, he's not quite understanding how the scam works.
This is what I thought too BUT…… for the last couple of months I’ve noticed that if I buy using oaypal, but end up returning the product, they don’t refund my money instead the company I purchased using my PayPal only gives me store credit. So far this has happened with Bass Pro & Marshalls
I don’t know if that’s legal!! I paid cash money thru pay pal & I only get store credit???
Use a card that’s only used for store purchases so if you ever get scammed, you didn’t have much in the account to begin with.
I don't think this can happen if you buy from reputable sellers...
Probably occuring on shady sites or compromised machines. Maybe a fake credit card intake form, followed by a fake declined message. The scammer uses the credit card information later on for whatever amount they want.
I wish this report were clearer, as is it's just fear mongering.
Sound about right.. and yall think "crypto" is the solution.. lol get real !! buy gold !!
Gold is about as tactile as crypto, unfortunately. Go to the feds to try and get your gold bars and then standby for laughter. Unless you have gold in physical possession, your money is no safer in the bank--which by the way it's very safe in the bank. Crypto is safe, too, especially now that it trades as an ETF.
@@ajspice lol. my gold in is my hands lol... in my house next my glock!!!!! lol lol lol ... who said anything about going to a bank.. lol..

It’s the vendor. Happened to me and stupid me just tried it again because I knew full well I was not overdrawn and of course the vendor had charged me twice. Luckily it was with a regular credit card and they immediately fixed the situation.
Who uses credit cards on random websites 👀
PPL likes to scam you by double charging your bank account. Good luck getting it reversed.
Hail money
Cash is the way to go if you want to keep more of your money and time.
Cash is King...Always was, always will be..
Everything is a scam
Check your account 1-2 days after you purchase(s). Don't assume all is good.
Cash when you can!
No its a HACK
I must be the nay person who goes to my bank, gets cash out and uses that for purchases!! It’s very very simple.
I do that also. Of course that won't work online at stores with no local presence.
There is no scam here. Just ppl who can't budget properly
Thanks for the analysis! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
I pay cash 😊
Shop locally and use cash. Support your community and help stop us all becoming digital slaves.
Doesn't work when you can't find what you're looking for locally.
Lol! Shop local? Small shops barely exist, and the ones that do cost a fuckin' fortune. Not to mention, the quality is no better or worse than big box stores, but the only difference is that local places don't back their products up and have shit customer service. I RARELY have good experience with local places.
@@scanman975Which is pretty muxh everything.
@@ajspice Not if they are part of a large chain. They back their products sold in their locations in towns across the country.
More crap? It’s exhausting. I wanna go back to the ‘80s. Better times & simpler.
Honey....get some glasses that don't reflect every studio light back. I know you wanna be trendy with your Jeffery Dahmer's, but tone it down when you're on camera. It's distracting.
Useless report!
Hey Jennah, lose the clown glasses, they reflect.
Oh thank goodness I'm not the only one annoyed by that. If we hate it, then hopefully the producer does too. Why the fuck are the Jeffery Dahmers coming back in style? Why are women dressing like it's the 80's? Next thing you know it's gonna be blowouts and perms.
This a "better than nothing" video.
Vote Republican to protect credit card companies.
Ought to get a dude to explain this kind of stuff. I don’t want to sit through two mins of “Valley Girl OMGs” to get to the nuts and bolts of an issue…. Just sayin’
Useless 2 minutes
Cash is King
You know they are talking about online purchases, right? How are you gonna pay for those in cash?
Brick and mortar, baby.
Can yall add money to my account please

And thank God we have computers right? NOT! 😡
