  • Hello viewers, friends, and family!
    Last week's video showed a bit more about how our life is going in Coronavirus Lockdown here in Honduras, and showed how life threw us a curveball with the closure of the hotel where we were staying. Check out that video to see more about how we were living in lockdown, and what happened.
    This week's video is Part 2 in a two-part series that Tim was anxious to film. It is the story of Reggie Rover - how we have configured our. Range Rover Classic into an Overland Vehicle. Not only does Tim go into detail about how Reggie is currently configured, but he also spends some time talking about what we'd like to do in the future. Along with Tim talking we have lots of old footage of Reggie driving and stationary over the years, so that was fun to go through.
    We hope you enjoy this video - please give it a big thumbs-up if you did, and please subscribe to our channel if you are not already!
    And join us next week (hopefully), for a video about our new life in lockdown in Honduras, as we are moving from this hotel to a more permanent place for the next month. And being as how we aren't there yet, we have no idea what it will be like, including how the wifi will be (its a surprise, LOL).

    A very tidy and well-sorted rig, you have clearly put as much thought as effort into it's creation.
    I'm currently blessed with a 1989 3.5 V8 efi which I bought over with me when we moved from London to Ireland. I mention the V8 part as it is quite a rarity in cars in general in Europe as our 'beloved' governments despise us mere plebs having nice, big cars and tax us accordingly!
    Good luck with your future plans.

    • @planetoverland
      @planetoverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! Yes, Tim spent a lot of time thinking in his head and on paper of what he wanted to do, and we did test out various setups on temporary trips, and then we ended up modifying it some while we were traveling full time.
      I can see how the V8 would be problematic with taxes - the US has some stupid vehicle laws as well. I guess every country has some weird thing with certain vehicles. In Australia cars in general are super-expensive bc of the taxes, AND the required driving inspection is crazy for older vehicles bc everything that worked when it came off the line has to work again, however, all the weird new rules about light positioning and stuff has to be abided by as well.
      In the US you can get around some taxes depending on which state you register the vehicle in, and how old it is, but some regulations are federal, meaning that they apply to all states.
      Thanks so much for the comment, and for watching our videos! Would love to see your vehicle! You can DM us a photo on Instagram if you like (Planet Overland).

    I have a 95 county LWB. I had the same issue constantly breaking rear shocks. Talked it over with ARB and the solution was to change to defender 110 rear coils with extended bump stops and Toyota land cruiser pin to pin front socks mounted on the rear. Haven't broken another shock since then.

    • @planetoverland
      @planetoverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about 110/130 rear springs but I really don't want to cut off and re-weld the spring buckets. I did/am changing to Pin-Pin and running resivor 2.5 shocks though, much nicer.

    Nice. We took our 1992 Range Rover to Central America and back. Our rear Bilstein shocks were definitely not up to the task carrying the 3 of us and all our gear. Although they didn't fail, they had almost no damping left when we returned. We put Koni Raids on after reading up on shocks and have been extremely happy with them. Now if we could just figure out why our panhard rod bushings keep failing...

    • @planetoverland
      @planetoverland  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah we have had Bilsteins, Rancho and plain Monroes all destroy themselves over the last few years. Its time to get serious! Bushing have held up but Ive learned to either use OEM rubber or Polybush Blue or Orange, don't use Red we blew those put in a year. Running orange right now and they are holding up well. Cheers mate!

      Couldn't agree more! Reggie is an amazing and simple vehicle (other than the electrics, haha), and he served us well while traveling. Very nice setup. I am very curious what you going to change... Pop-up roof seems almost impossible in this car but never say never :)) I also think about making my RR more camping-friendly but still did not make up my mind so watching how your experience will determine your choices will be very interesting :)

    • @planetoverland
      @planetoverland  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can Pop up anything! We've seen RRC's, Toyota 80, 100 and 200 series as well funniest was a pop top Subaru that was amazing! We love it as it is now but we have some ideas to make it even better for long term living. Thanks and stay tuned!

    • @defenda1
      @defenda1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i think if you're prepared to get surgical a pop-up roof could work really well, just by detaching the whole roof panel at the welds and adding some hinges etc. Maybe it would need some strength added back but apparently they can be driven around sans roof...

    • @classicme
      @classicme 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@defenda1 roof in RR classic is screwed to kind of frame. It is very easy to take it off , no need for cutting. However the frame itself is extremely thin and I can't imagine to stress it more than weight of the roof. That is why I think it is very difficult task. I am not engineer though... And could be mistaken. I've seen many defenders with pop-up roof, if defender has a similar design it means it is possible.:)

    • @planetoverland
      @planetoverland  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@classicme Yep, needs to be worked for sure. Ive seen two RRC with pop tops, one was well done and engineered quite well. The other was a simple 45 degree pop top of the roof and wasn't the best but probably cost him a $100 total so its hard to complain. Well see what happens.

    • @omarvigil36
      @omarvigil36 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When the range rover first cane out companies did a pop up roof conversion. It was a popular conversion. Look it up on the web.

  • @arthurplottier9783
    @arthurplottier9783 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just wonder if will be possible to integrate a hard roof ten to the vehicle so it can be accessed from inside. The pop-up roof conversions, when available, here in Australia are from $10,000 up. Love your soft dash Classic, IMO there are nicer than the new ones and simple to maintain. Is any reason why you have not considered a Detroit locker at the back?

    • @planetoverland
      @planetoverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Arthur Plottier yeah we’re changing it up soon to integrate a full build, stay tuned. I’ve never liked Detroit’s as the terribly harsh and tough on the vehicle. We do have an arb air locker in the rear which works well.

    • @planetoverland
      @planetoverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, I don't think Tim has done any sound insulation of the engine bonnet, but I will run down and ask him! I will also ask him if he plans on doing any sound insulation in this rebuild of Reggie. Thanks for the question! I will reply shortly with the answers.....

    • @planetoverland
      @planetoverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha! I was totally wrong :o)
      He has placed sticky foam sheets on the inside of the bonnet itself, and then all along the firewall that separates the engine compartment from the vehicle interior. He didn't notice a big difference, but then our engine is actually pretty quiet compared to others we've heard. He has no plans to upgrade or revamp the sound deadening, since we really don't need it. Thank you so much for your question! And patience!

      Rudy Sudradjat the engine is a 300tdi with 93mm pistons, forged crank and rods from a power stroke making it a 2.8L engine. It has a Garrett VNT for the turbocharger, a tuned injector pump, larger inter cooler and 3” exhaust. Trans is a ZF hp22 but the front half is an hp24 which has larger and stronger clutch’s it’s also runs the large torq converter. The tcase is an LT230t with a solid 4 pin cross shaft and a sleeved main shaft. So far 100k miles and no issues!

    the two front seats are not correct for that year and model classic they are out of a hard dash model youve got a soft dash model also one other thing if your going to be driving in a hot climate i would of recamented a 200tdi as they give a lot less over heating problems ( the 300tdi the water pump is higher than the expansion bottle hence why they over heat) also did you know they only ever made 2500 lwb classics from 1993 to 1995 and 1500 of them went to the states so theres only 1000 left in the rest of the world i deal in land rovers so if you ever need any parts or advise dont hesitate to get in contact with me best reagars Lorcan
