  • Is BENJAMIN MOORE REGAL SELECT Worth the Price?
    Time to review one of my personal favorite paints to use, Benjamin Moore Regal Select! It's a premium interior paint that is 100% Acrylic, has excellent coverage, and great washability. But is Benjamin Moore Regal Select worth the price?

    Guys a quick tip. I manage a Benjamin Moore store and here is a good tip on getting a good deal. " Just be nice and simply ask if you can get contractor price because you'll be buying more" . I give people good prices all the time just for simply asking or being nice and friendly.

    Love Benjamin Moore worth every cent! Won't use nothing else! My entire home is painted with Benjamin Moore 18 years later I am now starting to paint some rooms, I have washed walls and lightly scrubbed over years no issues. You get what you pay for, highly recommended this paint can't believe 18 years later my paint still looks amazing.

    Thanks for this, we've used Benjamin Moore for years and love the finish as well as the coverage. We purchased BM regal for our son's new home and helped him paint it. Love BM and we'll be using it throughout our whole home this year other than our bathrooms where we'll be using Aura. After years of using paint from The Big Orange Box, I am using Regal Select for my current home, and I will never go back. I'm not as young as I once was, and can no longer spend 8 hours a day painting. The RS lets me do half a wall one day, the other half a week later, and you can't tell.
    The coverage is amazing. I'm doing my living room, dining room, and a tiny bedroom from the same one gallon ... I'll probably have extra. But still, I'd need at least twice as much of my former paint to do the job.
    Now if I could just find an edger tool I could attach to an extension pole so I could paint my double height stairwell ...

    Would Regal do well switching from beige to orange without bleed through? I’m having to prime the whole house because Behr Dynasty still bleeds through after 2 coats. And, would Regal be fine to paint over minor patches where I used drywall mud to fill nail holes?

    Hi- i recently just repainted certain areas of my home , the walls, trim and doors using the ben line and its awful. especially for the trim and doors. i had a professional paint it and still with sanding, primer and 2 coats even 3 it looks awful. altered finishes, where it looked matte in patches when used semi gloss, excessive brush strokes , horrible drag, tacky, it did not have a smooth finish. every imperfection stands out. it even bubbled in some areas. i purchased the paint for the painter to use who said the ben line should be more than adequate. i have spent double on the paint and labor and im very frustrated. The ben line is supposed to be pretty good, its not a cheap paint. Its been suggested to use either the regal or aura. the trim, baseboards and doors are my biggest concern and afraid of running into the same problems. is regal or aura going to make a difference? do you have any suggestions or recommendations?

      There are a lot of factors that could cause this. Including the color, sheen, quality, age, and # of layers of paint you're painting over, and the quality, color, and sheen you're putting on. Behr makes decent paint for the price, but apples to apples Regal Select is a step above anything Behr offers.

Most of my jobs are done by bid and the faster I complete the job the more money I make. Aura covers better and touches up with less flashing. For a 3,000 square foot house I spend $120 more for Aura than I would for Regal. I only need to save 2 hours labor to pay for that. The Ben line is absolute garbage. If the homeowner bought the paint and wants me to apply it I turn down the job. I used to charge more to use lower quality paint but now I don't even want to use it.

    Do you have any tips for matching paint. Specifically when it’s been years since you painted and your can doesn’t have the label that indicated the color, gloss, etc...?

    • @wally7856
      @wally7856 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bring a small sample of your wall to the paint store (professional paint store, not big box store) and say "match this for me please!". Good places to get a sample is a removable closet shelf, cut out a small patch behind an electrical outlet (not all the way through the wall, just the top cardboard of the drywall), cut out a patch behind fridge or stove (to be later filled), in a closet, etc. You get the idea, bring a sample to the pros and let them do the work for you. Another method is google "Nix Mini 2", it is a device that can color match your color to major paint brands although it isn't always perfect, some colors it gets dead on, others not so much.

    • @alister1394
      @alister1394 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, first int. / ext. Can they take a sample from the side. From then unless there is paint inside of the can he can make a sample of.
      Then they will take a measurement with their Spectrometer and if they KNOW what they are doing.
      Edit those measurements to either come spot on. Or underneath the color then a drop or I believe down to a 1/16 until they hit the right color and sheen.
      Hope that helps

      You'll be good with Regal in bathrooms. If you're worried about moisture, go with a shinier finish to improve washability, and ALWAYS run the fan during showers to circulate the air. You're even better off with Aura Bath and Spa due to it's built-in moisture and mildew resistance.

    Don’t let the store talk you into using the semi gloss on door or large surfaces. Even with extender it dries so fast and doesn’t flow. It is flashing and doesn’t level nice. For trim it’s ok. I should have stuck with pro classic.

    Regal select is their best paint. Shop around. Some sellers sell it at bottom line price. If you are friendly they may even give you a contractor discount.
    I liked it better than Aura . Aura was too flinky . You need a pros touch with it. Regal puts anything in home depot to shame for the same price
    Sherwin's duration cracked any every single joint on my moulding and wouldn't take my call to honor it. Benjamin moore did not for the same profile.

      duration did not hold color for me. i used a mid tone grey that i purposely got for the purple undertone (grey always has an undertone) and a year later the red from the undertone was gone and the undertone prominent was green. -- Also Duration, the same color in different finishes was waaaay different.

    Disagree on the easy to use for Regal Select. I just painted a wall with a southern exposure and the matte finish is a nightmare. Still cannot get it to roll without horrible roller overlap lines. On a wall with little "long lighting" you probably won't notice it. On one like this with a long light exposure it looks like "rhymes with sit"
    Seems to flash almost instantly and gives horrible overlap lines. Wet edge has a 10 second life, after that you are screwed. Does not play well backrolling at all. I actually hate the stuff but have 2 more overpriced gallons to try again. Going to use BM extender tomorrow and try to fix it but really hate this wall, looks like a blind idiot painted it and I have been painting for years.
    Very thick paint, feels like good ol boy truck bedliner paint. They should have Bill Cosby as the spokesperson, like painting with pudding. 2 coats and still not covering. Light orange peel wall texture and the paint just skips over the low spots. Probably going back to Dunn Edwards after this.
    Extremely disappointed barely describes how I feel. I only tried BM Regal Select it beccause it is the fashion statement of all the You Tube "interior designers"
    If I didn't care about getting banned I would use a lot of 4 letter words to describe the experience.....just like I did watching it dry to a cluster truck today. Fun fact: BM is exactly what I got on my wall using BM paint. I could have just slapped the wall with my colon and got a better finish. I officially hate BM.
    On a better note, your videos are great, thank you for the effort.
