Who are Kara and Nate?!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment. We discovered the world of “travel hacking” & became obsessed. So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world. Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went home to “normal life.” We started this travel vlog to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with this lifestyle and did everything we could to keep going. 4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time. Van life was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎

Yes, 100% agree! I also think this audience is older (I don't mean old because I'm Kara's age but just not primarily really really young people) and wouldn't be the type to want to consume shorts over these traditional vlogs. I wouldn't want to see the channel change in that way!

I LOVE LOVE how Nate said his pet peeve but quickly showed his appreciation for Kara for what she has done with him that mattered. That speaks volumes these days to overcome one negative flaw but appreciative of her whole being with him.
The format of this video made it so relaxed and enjoyable. It was like being there and having a conversation versus a standard stiff Q&A. You all are just so insanely talented. Thank you for taking us along on your journeys. This video was so fun!

I don't feel like short videos will ever replace long videos. Long videos are like massages and it's just takes your mind away to somewhere with positive energy, which many people love.

i personally hate shorts. it's not even enjoyable to watch. they can push it all they want but i still prefer podcasts, movies, tv shows, and anything that takes effort and craftsmanship and makes for a good viewing experience
honestly i like longer videos better than short videos! i think alot of people would still watch you in the future! i always get excited when i see a video im interested in and its about 20 - 40 mins!! i feel like the only 13 year old without tiktok lol

Totally agree! I think this gen that grew up with TH-cam and not shorts, tiktok or reels can pay attention to quality made long vids. Although the above is entertaining they have no depth to it. They are exactly what social media is and don’t show too much reality. TH-cam I feel, gives you a bit more of that reality or maybe it’s just the people/things I watch 😅

Really enjoyed it and the way it was done, not just a single sit down but as you guys are doing other things and loved hearing Elayna and Riley’s answers alongside you guys. Makes the Q&A refreshing. Also some great questions too that are different from the usual. And I like the way it was spliced so it still shows how your time went. Thanks for bringing us along. I don't think you should worry about shorter content! Watching your 30min long videos is like watching a TV series and the more content you get the better. It's perfect to watch while eating or taking a breather, I would not be able to imagine watching TH-cam shorts in that way. Keep up the great content! ❤️☺️

@lisa Anderson Cancer & chemotherapy treatment takes so much out of you and they are also going thru the fertility thing (or have done so) but I’m guessing Bec is needing time for healing, finding her energy and her new normal. This has taken a toll on them both as a couple too ..there maybe surgical mastecomy(ies) also to come which would be HUGE and another reason they’re not posting as survival is the utmost importance here. Let’s pray for them and send them good positive energy :)🙏🏼

I really hope the long format videos never "go out of style" because I LOVE them. While I enjoy watching tik toks and stuff like that sometimes, they just don't cut it. I love sitting down and watching a proper video!

I was vegetarian for year but started trying to be more balanced over the past year and it’s been so much better! Still being conscious of what I’m eating but giving myself a break when I want to try something new! So much better for me and how I travel! Love that not being 100% one thing doesn’t mean it’s not important!

Love that you were straight in with that first question, definitely agree with Elayna sometimes if people are that bothered maybe it’s a good cull. The baby question is something we’re always asked, I feel very similar to you Kara and with the period timing, always the most inconvenient timing and menstrual cups are great!
There will always be people like me who need more then just a minute clip. Never stop what your doing until it’s right for you guys! I personally prefer show’s over movies, because I don’t feel like I get enough content. This is why I love TH-cam, the content keeps coming from my favorite people’s stories to watch.

As for the shorts on TH-cam, I myself don't watch them but I will say I did actually find yall through Facebook videos. I would watch those and after a while I found you guys on TH-cam and it has opened up to so many others yall have done collabs with. Yall are my laundry folding jam and I am so thankful that finding this genre of TH-cam has helped me travel with my kiddos and give them unforgettable life experiences as well as myself. Since watching your guises channel I have made a goal that every year I have to do at least 5 things that make me uncomfortable! This was so fun to watch! And I'm with you, Kara! We went from being on the fence about kids to deciding we don't want kids... and that decision feels good! All I can say is it's okay to not be sure! And don't let others ever pressure you if your decision starts to lean towards 'no'... We had people who used to try to pressure us into having kids and they finally backed off!
I absolutely second this, my partner and I had the same pressures - I hated it when people would say "oh but you might feel different when you have one of your own" - you don't bring a kid into the world to see if it makes you change your mind about wanting kids!!! We live in different times and there's a good few childfree travelling couples on you tube for us all to feel kindred spirits with 😊

100% agree. Have a kid ONLY if you want to. Shut off the external noise and the norm of the world to have a kid. Do what your heart wants and don't try to fit in the 'supposed' to be norm of having a kid. I can tell from my personal experience that if you truly don't want to have kids, you will never regret it.

Bringing a life into this world is a big responsibility as one is going to mold life and thoughts of this living creature they consciously made a choice to bring into this world. Never ever make this decision based on following what rest of the world does. Anyhow, said all that and knowing from what I can understand how Kara is, she will not be pressured. And admire that!!
I was exactly like that. me and my husband used to travel a lot and with kids that does get more challenging. we have 2 small girls now after years of doubt. I love them so much but I can absolutely understand and respect others in our situation chosing to be childless 😊 PS: we do travel much less now but it does get easier over time when they become more independent

Love the longer videos. The short videos are enjoyable sometimes, but there is hardly anything genuine about most of them. You guys always make for a great way to pass a bit of time or something to watch during dinner or lunch. Love your stuff (:
I love how transparent yall are! Hoping to bump into you two one day on the road. I would never un sub from anyone haha. Sometimes I do unsub but its only because the account gets hacked.
I would say the biggest reason my wife and I wanted a kid (or two) is because we both want to see how well we can raise a kid in this crazy world. And something to look forward to and celebrate with achievements with the kid and know (hopefully) we can grow with them when we're old and all of our friends are gone :)

It honestly is a depression or anxiety cure, so nice seeing the people you meet and locations. I'm into shorts but travel shorts are just depressing. I could watch an hour of Nate working on the van no issues.

I hope that when you pop into the US to visit family, you can cross off a new state (or territory if you wanted something different and went to Puerto Rico, Guam, or American Samoa; that'd be super cool). I think that'd be better than a speed run. I've always enjoyed seeing you guys do things recommended by fans. If there was one thing you took from the US goal, it would be visiting places when they are at their best.
One of the best things about having this channel be so famous is having a fan everywhere, so you two can share special secrets and local knowledge wherever you go.

I’ve traveled all over the world and eaten everything imaginable, from gourmet to simple street food. There may be dozens of books and movies about fancy French food but plop my butt down in Italy any day and you can find remarkable food. Italians not only make good food, they live it. From simple carbonara in a Rome lunch shop to a three hour long Sunday family style feast on a hillside in Positano, food is Italy. I speak only a smattering of Italian but I can order its food without thinking about it. A simply marvelous place on Earth in that respect.
