It works for me to keep a ‘donate basket’ in your cupboard, then everytime you go to get dressed and you come across things that make you think “why do I even still have this?” Toss it in the donate basket and then if you find you never go looking for anything in that basket then once a year donate the whole basket without going back through it. Makes spring cleaning the wardrobe much easier as well as helping to keep a closet full of only the things you actually want to reach for each day
That's how I do it as well since forever :) I just have a trash bag sitting in the back of my closet and do the same thing and just donate it once it's full. That happens anytime between once a year and every five years depending on how much my style changes and how much money I have for new things. I also have a strict "no new hangers" policy so once all the hangers are taken I can't hang anything new unless something old gets thrown out.
A good rule for buying clothes (whether from a charity shop or not) would be to donate something from your wardrobe every time you add something to it. So a 1:1 ratio, your wardrobe will always stay the same size 😊
That's a good idea! I always picture someone offering me the item in one hand and the amount of money it's worth in the other. If you would rather have the money, move on. If you're unsure, take a picture of the item (plus the price, shop, and relevant details) ao if you decide you want it later, you know where to go back to.
I need that rule, but for buying clothes 😂 Because I recently had to go out and buy all new trousers/ jeans because I realised I was down to my last singular pair that hadn't worn out! I need to actually replace the clothes I wear through, and not just hang onto the same clothes I had when I was 13 😂
I do this every time I buy something for me. If I bought a new jacket, I'm going to donate one jacket I already have and don't use for 6+ months, it's really good to keep this habit
I agree for the most part! I recently moved somewhere that gets 4 seasons so I had to get additional layers and whatnot. When I get pregnant I will do a mini capsule for that. Past that though, 1 thing in, 1 thing out, plus closet purge every 4-6 months! I went from having over 1,000 hangers 8 years ago to just about 30 now. However I do have far more sweatpants than ever before, but that’s okay.
Mia, I need to personally Thank you. My 3 daughters and son had the unfortunate experience of being in a womans shelter. The donations were SUCH A GIFT, it was an excitement we otherwise didn't have much of in our lives then ....it means more then you know❤

Hi Mia! I never comment but wanted to take the opportunity to highlight recycling programs that are available for textiles that you would normally throw away (I.e., intimates). Knickey, for example, has a recycling program that diverts old socks, tights, underwear, and bras from landfills by turning those donated items into new materials like insulation, carpet, and furniture batting. I just wanted to throw it out there in case you were interested in options for recycling items that you would typically throw away! There are also other programs that are available, the company Parade has a take back program, there are lots of options!!
my immediate reaction to seeing this video on my feed was "don't do this to me!" because now I'm going to feel the URGE to declutter MY closet 🥲but I'm watching anyway because I love these videos 😍
I resonate with everything Mia said while going through her pants, “Jeans are not comfortable… White pants are a bad idea. These pants don’t make sense with your lifestyle. I have a lot of statement pants… I kind of need to zero in on some neutrals - but, oh well”! 😂 This is literally ME every time I go to get dressed and feel like I don’t have enough pants, because I avoid my two remaining pairs of jeans in lieu of one pair of fancy joggers, a pair of black jeggings, Addidas track pants, and thrifted heathered gray sweats for around the house.
I'm really starting to believe I'm the only person in the world who actually likes jeans. I literally live in them I can't stand any other types of pants.

Mia: I'm going to be ruthless! Also Mia, 3 seconds later: I need a group of "needs to be revamped and needs to be in storage" But also -- way to go on recognizing and tackling the overflow situation.
I’m so proud of Mia! She’s called herself a “hoarder” before but I feel like she’s grown so much! She’s a decluttering queen now and has gotten so good at just letting things go. ❤ But also please drop the link for the pink cropped turtleneck sweater she’s wearing at the end of the video 👀

@ESWilliams09 I have a shallow/small closet that's tucked away, so it would be a good space-saving idea for me, but I can understand it being impractical for other floorplans.
Would love to see a video of you getting your colours professionally done! I think you'd love it too! Always so interesting and makes it easier to pick and choose clothes 🙌🏼
I love how you donate/give away so many things! With the things you only wear to "film" it would be the same as someone needing a separate style of clothing for work ! As filming is your work :)
All of your videos are so wonderful and inspiring but these are especially inspiring for me. Cleaning and getting rid of things has always been a struggle for me and my family. So watching you get rid of stuff and the little things that you remind yourself while going through this process was so nice to see and hear. I’m so happy that you were able to get rid of so much. NOT TO MENTION YOURE DONATING IT! You’re literally amazing and I hope this video can inspire and uplift others watching.
it's actually so good to get rid of a bunch of clothes, you just become lighter. And you actually get used to wearing the same clothes more frequently because you don't have a lot of choice. After I got married, I moved to a different state and all my clothes were in bags, I was only wearing a few clothes that I've taken to our honey moon. It was so good, and I lived like that for almost 6 or 7 months until I finally unpacked my stuff. Now my closet is too crowded and I want to declutter (even though I've made it while unpacking). Happy times with much less clothes!!! More space, less thing to choose from, less things to wash, just happiness. I wish you can experiment this sentiment too!
that. was. amazing. the amount of space you ended up with! and I love that you're always so thoughtful to donate to womens shelters and donate the money from selling stuff, so incredibly kind♡♡. I cleared out my boyfriends entire closet a few weeks ago (he hadn't done that since he was 10, so about 12 years....) it made me super excited, I love cleaning and organizing. probably one of the only people on earth to enjoy that and get happiness from it :P
Mia saying she doesn’t know how to style sweater vests when she’s also the person that sparked my liking for sweater vests (her empty house tour) 😅💖 Also thank you Mia for keeping the tradition of the leopard shirt, it’s a comfort thing for me at this point 🐱
I love a good closet clear out and am an organization fiend. IDK about everyone else, but when I watch these I think about how I would help the person reorganize what they are putting back (you did great Mia, love ya!).
Omg. Your dog is so adorable. I just spent 5 whole minutes paused at the beginning to go insane over how cute Chip is with his bat ears and cute face and the pose he has while you're holding him. It's too cute
Finally catching a Mia video 3 seconds after it’s posted! It must be a lucky day 🎉 Love a good closet clean out. You have more closet space for your clothes than I have in my entire 1950s house 😂
I feel like a clear out is very cathartic. I always feel so much better in the space no matter where it is (kitchen, closet, pantry, etc). Being ruthless with yourself helps force you into making decisions instead of just hanging onto something because you can't let go.
Mia you’re just so stinking adorable! Every video shows more and more how much of a genuine person you are and I just love comin along for the ride. Your videos feel like catching up with a friend and I love that!
Loved seeing this closet clear out! It totally inspired me to go through my wardrobe this coming up weekend and do a ruthless clear out. I know deep down there's a large chunk of my closet that I'm not wearing. I'm also quite lucky because the area I live at there's a thrift store that sends seasonal letters in the mail when they're going to have their collection truck nearby and do free pickups!
I love when you go trough your wardrobe because a lot of pieces bring back memories of your videos and It just feels like *that scene from Hanna Montana* 🥺 I love you Mia 🫶🏼♥️
Video Idea: How about hiring a color specialist who will analyze your skin color and undertones to determine if you are a spring, summer, winter or autumn. This will help you determine which shades of each color best suite you and would be fun to watch. I'm seeing a lot of this on TH-cam lately and it seems interesting.
@@myra0224 You can wear whatever color you'd like, BUT there are colors and tones that will suit you the best. We instinctively gravitate towards some colors and avoid others but a professional analysis can be fun and expand the color choices.
This video gives me the motivation to tackle my overflowing closets, thanks, Mia! I am a photographer and I also like to revamp a lot of old or thrifted clothing so it's really hard for me to let a lot of things go because I always say to myself, "Oh, I'll use this for a photo shoot" or "I'll sew this up into something cute soon"! 😅
I'm impressed, good job! I've been reading and watching a lot of things about minimalism recently and I have made some decluttering ; it does indeed help you see what's suitable with your current lifestyle and aspirations. I still have a few things to declutter "after I wear it until it has to be washed" next season. Then poof! Donation and gone!
Mia, recently I've been watching your videos every single day , I'm Chronically ill and bedbound, and you and Mama Maples are my therapy, thank you! Xxx
I'm probably moving this year and I feel that is the perfect time for decluttering. Simply only taking what I love most, or replace some things with new items ❤️ bring a whole lot to the thriftstore and start again with a clean slate ✨️
To a point, I do a 1:2 ratio. One new piece added, 2 go out. It helps reduce your closet over time, but also get to go buy new things. I mainly thrift.
Mia, Kate Spade has the perfect bag to go with your “collectible” coat, which I love btw. It’s a gingerbread house bag with colors similar to your coat.
Mia is FR the most generous person ever like so many TH-camrs sell their clothes... so I was like fair but then she said she's going to donate the money to charity. the best person fr fr
Hopescope has a store where she sells some stuff from her closet and videos, so she may have some recommendations. So glad you're considering letting us buy some pieces to donate to charity!
Decluttering or downsizing your closet is an endless thing. The more you remove, the more you get or gain and then have to repeat the process again. Letting go of some things, however, will always be good practice and really makes you feel better as well
I always like Mia’s videos before they even begin, because let’s be honest… it will always be good. And I would just feel so bad if I ever forgot to give her credit where it’s due!
So my daughter and I Love watching your channels. She asked if I would comment and let you know that you remind us of a Borrower. We mean that as the best compliment. We love The Borrowers. :) Thank you for providing a clean and wholesome channel for us to enjoy.
Jeans are SO uncomfortable. I don't get why they are so popular. You can't sit or walk in stiff fabric, comfortably. I have two pairs I can stand, and they're not even really denim; they're like a soft khaki twill. And don't even get me started on "pre-distressed" denim.
Very comfortable filming after, you know you are the first person I see who says you have to get rid of a lot of clothes and you say clearly this is not me. I was very used to seeing girls with a very large wardrobe and a large perfume section, especially in Arabs and you too, but when I watched the previous video of you and you are getting rid of Of your clothes and you feel comfortable in the little clothes you wear and even if you love the clothes you say clearly that I don't wear this every day and that someone would love to wear this and would be happy with it, this is very kind of you, since that video you really changed me something about the clothes a lot and the donation without No doubt, thanks Mia💕💕💕🤍all love for you and you videos 🤍🤍🫧🫧And also, you're so cute when you said you got excited because people love what you wear, and you put on a part that's so, so sweet🥺💕I hope you always be happy 💕
You done a great job! But make your dream desk area and squish the third closet in the other ones. Having less space for clothes helps to maintain a reasonable amount of pieces. 🧡
I don't know if you've heard of the container method, you can find some videos about it on TH-cam, but it really helps to get the right mindset about storage spaces! In addition to "does it spark joy? " Of course 😊
I’m into capsule wardrobes now. You can adapt them for each season, and really help with your ecological impact on the world. Plus it makes life so much easier.
I LOVE decluttering and just getting rid of most of my closet! If I have beg worn something in at least 2 (unless it’s out of season lol) then clearly I’m never going to grab for it. Having less clothes makes the mornings so much easier when getting ready!
I am in the process of decluttering my own home, now that we are expecting Baby #4 especially, and these videos have been a huge source of motivation for me; thank you for sharing!!! 🙏👏😀🙌

True, but with clothing, it is different (I think).
Antique: anything over 100 years, vintage: anything older than 20 years. Else it’s just second hand.
Vintage is under 100 years old, but usually before 1999. May change in upcoming years though. Antique is over 100 years

I've been reading and watching a lot of things about minimalism recently and I have made some decluttering ; it does indeed help you see what's suitable with your current lifestyle and aspirations. I still have a few things to declutter "after I wear it until it has to be washed" next season. Then poof! Donation and gone!
Breathtakingly Beautiful Mia, it can't be a quadrant if there aren't four of them. Love you!
Mia, recently I've been watching your videos every single day , I'm Chronically ill and bedbound, and you and Mama Maples are my therapy, thank you! Xxx
I have found Mia during illness as well, it brings some positive and supporting vibes. Wish you all the best!
@@Mareekee aww thank you so much. How are you doing now? Xx
@@christinabellamoore slowly recovering! Still a way to go though. Take care xxx
@@Mareekee best of luck with your recovery Xxx
Good job Mia! Better than I coulda done! I cling to things so badly lol 😅looks great!
I'm probably moving this year and I feel that is the perfect time for decluttering. Simply only taking what I love most, or replace some things with new items ❤️ bring a whole lot to the thriftstore and start again with a clean slate ✨️
Good rule of thumb: Vintage = 20yrs & over; Antique = 100+ years. You have great taste! 🥰
Cool, I hope she sees this. Bc maybe she will make a video on it or buy it!
she doesn't need more pieces of clothing....
Absolutely love this video bc it's literally what i´ve been doing for the past day and a half 10/10
What she donated is like double the amount of clothes I have, like that’s impressive✨
Decluttering or downsizing your closet is an endless thing. The more you remove, the more you get or gain and then have to repeat the process again. Letting go of some things, however, will always be good practice and really makes you feel better as well
stop i was fr just saying i need to declutter my closet and you posted this 😭😭
My grandma had that exact sweater with the leaves on it! 😍 Brings back good memories!
Watching these always makes me want to clear out my closet again a even though I did it a month ago 😆
im proud of you mia every time i see you declutter
So are we going to ignore that she has 3 QUADRANTS not 4😂? I LOVE HER!
Our DIY QUEEN… you need to make a whole closet make over video! You deserve it can totally do it!!!
Mia, you should go to professional colour analysis, then you’ll know what colours suite you best and we get a great vid!
Yes!!
7:20 😍 omg the dress you made is such a gorgeous color!!! Love that persimmon shade
Isn't a "quadrant", by definition, a factor-of-4 kinda thing?? 🤔 😂
(No shade, I use words to fit what **I** want them to mean too lol. 😁😘)
Yes you are correct...was wondering where the 4th closet was lol
So brave. So strong. From one harder to another, I support you Mia, good work! 💙
You were wondering the difference between Antique and Vintage - Antique MUST be AT LEAST 100yrs old. Vintage AT LEAST 40yrs old.
You inspired me to clear out my old clothes out of my closet along with you while I watch your video
Jeans are SO uncomfortable. I don't get why they are so popular. You can't sit or walk in stiff fabric, comfortably. I have two pairs I can stand, and they're not even really denim; they're like a soft khaki twill. And don't even get me started on "pre-distressed" denim.
I love the closet clean out videos and the organization videos. So fun to watch the transformation ❤
but... you need 4 to have a QUADrant
To me you have successd in looking like a real person. This is definitely one of like top 3 closet decluttering videos that I actually find realistic.
I hope these items boost up the individual who receive them! They’re super cute pieces and hopefully someone will build a new life in them!!!
You done a great job! But make your dream desk area and squish the third closet in the other ones. Having less space for clothes helps to maintain a reasonable amount of pieces. 🧡
this was so nice and satisfying to watch!!
Oh that antique coat! It’s everything! I need that in my life!
Love this so so much and I love the fact that you always think about charity first and foremost 😊
I just did this also, and my mom took everything to her work she works with a lot of teens, and they were all so grateful made me so happy.
I had fun just watching all the colors in your closet.
Looks like you have done a major closet clear out!!! Bravo 👏 👏 👏
Mia's got such a good heart
Girl....ur vibe and energy is sooooo fun AND comforting at the same time! I am a fellow hoarder too LOL so thanks! Muah xoxo
Your style is soooo cute and suites you perfectly, especially with your new hair🎉
Declutter videos are always therapeutic 😍❤️
I LOVE decluttering and just getting rid of most of my closet! If I have beg worn something in at least 2 (unless it’s out of season lol) then clearly I’m never going to grab for it. Having less clothes makes the mornings so much easier when getting ready!
I am in the process of decluttering my own home, now that we are expecting Baby #4 especially, and these videos have been a huge source of motivation for me; thank you for sharing!!! 🙏👏😀🙌
Yesss Mia, you read my mind 😂 been thinking of a declutter, needed motivation from watching someone else do it, and here it is! You are an inspiration ❤ love all your videos! (Fellow Canadian here)
