    I can't tell you how much of this is true, being an air traffic controller myself.

    Yep your correct! 500ft or higher when crossing the field. And make sure when your at that altitude and cross the runway that you don't descend down to pattern altitude. Wait until you pass where the down wind leg would be then start your decent so their is no traffic conflict.
    And yes always state wether on left or right down wind. Even though most airports are left traffic patterns. You would be surprised how many people will fly right traffic patterns and put everyone else at risk

    Ok.. First off... An aircrafts Landing lights can only be seen if your flying on a head on course with them. So if your flying on a downwind leg and the plane in front of you is turning base... Your not going to be able to see their landings lights. But will see the wings bank. Second of all I'm wearing a Lap belt. Not all aircraft are installed with a shoulder harness set up. If your going to post ridiculous posts like that.please don't waste my time or time of other people who find these videos useful.

    Thanks for the video! it was very educational, I was wondering how you would calculate how far you are from the airport?

    What would be your suggestion as to an altitude to use when flying OVER the field to make the tear drop entry (back) to the 45. I've been told to use 500 feet above pattern altitude - never have read that in any of the publications.
    Also, been instructed to always use either "entering LEFT downwind, or RIGHT downwind - yes, I realize that the LEFT pattern is the usual one, but I always identify.

    I used to just HATE pilots coming into my airport on a straight-in approach instead of getting into the pattern. We were over a mountain on down-wind, flat area on base, and turned over the ocean to final and it wasn't always easy to see straight-ins when you were on base to final. It could be especially bad because you could fly in (uncontrolled airport), taxi down to one end of the airport, crawl through a fence and walk to very close restaurants and area shops, and pier so there were a lot of "reck" pilots (recreational) coming in on the weekends. Those pilots did NOT follow rules and made it dangerous for the locals who flew out of there all the time.

    Nice video, although why did you make a radio call for entering a 45 left down wind twice in quick succession when the first call would have been suffice ?

    hey thanks for the video, can anyone tell me what he said at 0:13, only caught few words, midfield at 2500, will be swinging in for 45 degrees something something for left runway 17, traffic approach from south east side. thanks in advance

    Better still is to have the mike just below your mouth ( AND CLOSE OF COURSE) but positioned just below your lower lip so that words that begin with the consonant P do not come across as louder than they should --- that's an un-needed distraction.

    • @Ayersaviation
      @Ayersaviation  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ever heard of a lap seat belt? My shirts is covering it.... As for the instrument being covered... I had shot 4 videos in one flight... Ever heard of looking outside to fly the airplane instead of staring at the instruments??

    • @Itsmeeman1
      @Itsmeeman1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ayersaviation 1/ yes I've heard of a lap seat belt. Not seen one around a pilot before. 2/ the only time I've seen someone cover the instruments is during a training flight to test the skill of the student pilot. The instruments are there for a very good reason. Try using them. You don't have to stare at them all during the flight but having them visible wcould prevent you crashing the plane. Neither of these should be enough of a concern to you that you needed to whine about them here. Did I hurt your feelings? smh

    • @trijigon
      @trijigon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no respectable pilot would say to ignore the instruments like that. wow.
