What to do in all countrys:
    1) Use your brain
    2) Be polite

One can use their brain but if one does not know the cultures rules and conduct, off course one will offend/screw up. You are attention seeking. If you don't know the countries rules and customs what good is POLITE? POLITE may be ok for wester standards but in Thailand will get you in big trouble... Your comment was without thought

Actually that was one of the biggest moments this year so far. I had my birthday on naka bucha day and we went to the temple. I’ve never done that before. I knew that i have to take off my shoes. One of the monks seen me struggle getting out of my shoes ( I’m in a wheelchair and have special shoes that i need to even pass the entrance. I didn’t even expect him to talk to me ( in English!) but after he seen me even trying he said "buddha understand". This will be unforgettable for me. A really special moment for a farang who is only a guest in the country

In the 12 years I have lived here this is arguably one of the finest videos I've seen that explains the basics of Thai culture. There are many other things that could have been discussed, but this video hits all the big ones and explained them very well. Although I will say I'm surprised you did not talk about the practice of wai. Perhaps it is because if you screw it up, and most foreigners do, Thais will usually see it as cute and funny, but not offensive.

This is my 27th time to visit Thailand but the only time i've been in Bangkok more than a day. The hospitality and good nature of Thai people alone have kept ne feeling positive despite being alone on this trip.

When my thai wife and I plan to go somewhere to see anything in Thailand we always have a plan B in case closed or some unplanned problems. In Thailand you can't let spoiled plans spoil your day. Be flexible. The touching the head thing is very true about people you don't know or not friends with but if close friends or girlfriend or boyfriend it's Okay. Great video, thanks.

When I was in Koh Samui in 2004, I tried to use a bum-gun for the first time in my bungalow but I missed my bum and ended up spraying the ceiling. I was guilty of flushing toilet paper in Thailand; I made sure I flushed them in smaller pieces than what I would flush in the states. Thank God, I never clogged any toilets there! Nice video guys! Thumbs Up.

Sawasdee krap! Khob khun mak krap for the video. I have been going to Thailand since 1999 for Muay Thai. My wife and I are bring a couple of friends with us and the guy is rather difficult at times. Im trying to prepare him for this trip by teaching him cultural norms and whats not to be done. This video will help him realize its not just my idea, but the truth. Always worried about a short temper or over haggling with people. I will probably do most of it as he doesnt speak any Thai, however there will be times he will do his own.... Anyways thanks again! heading over in April /2019 for 3 weeks vacation then they will leave and I will go and train some more muay thai! Khob khun krap! jing jing!! La gon

@@DivertLiving you see Jimmy, not sure if this is true but i think that all SE Asia toliets are very weak when it flushes and can flush the toilet paper down since most of them or all uses the little sprayer or the bucket with the handle on it to rinse off. We who lived in US most or all lur life are used to toilwt paper amd flushing them. Lol. But yeah, that was a embarassing moment but my wofe and her family played it out where it was normal and made me feel ok not embarrassed even though in my head i was like, DANG IT! This is the most embarrassing thing ive done here in SE Asia. Hahahahaha 😅😂😂😂😜

We were on a road trip to the north of the country when I 1st encountered a squat toilet. I have a bad knee and knee straight away this wasn’t going to be an option. Sadly as you get away from the city they are far more prevalent. 😂 that was a very interesting yet uncomfortable trip. I think something else to mention is personal space, in Europe and USA people like to have a certain degree of space between them and the next person while in Thailand people will walk or stand in very close proximity to one another.

    • @DivertLiving
