I've did away with the choke on several of Mopars I've had in the past only the one's I didn't drive in cold weather though. The thing I don't like about electric chokes are that they still choke even in hot weather and every time after the car was shut down, so I would just adjust them to stay open and not work. Great video! Thanks for sharing!

You and I had similar experiences with electric chokes. My problem that I had was if I moved the car out of the garage to warm up It would end up kicking the choke off. Thanks for watching and sharing Mitch!

I feel your pain on the problems we cause ourselves, I do it all the time! :)

I feel you! I should have started it first to check everything but I felt like I should take it apart for fun

I just recently took off the choke plate and shaft from a 600 cfm carb on my 69’. I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner. The car starts a lot easier after being warmed up!
As far as cold starts, i found 3 pumps of the gas pedal and hitting the ignition has worked best for me. I have no issues trying to keep it idling. Although now that I think about it, I had previously adjusted the fast idle screw so that it had zero effect on the choke during start up (basically the lowest idle possible when starting if that makes sense). Not sure if that has anything to do with it but everything is smooth now.

Do you do three full pumps? (Assuming double pumper?) I've been working on getting used to it and have been successful after like three or so starts to keep it idling. Took a bit of learning to figure out when it is at temp enough to stay running, but I see what you are saying. It's a much smoother startup when I have everything ironed out. Thanks for chiming in Joseph!

Split the difference, choke horn with no choke flap. Did like your manual choke video- PITA install.

Thanks man. That’s not a bad plan. Probably could have just removed the flap. I agree. The manual choke was a lot of work. I also wish I went with the Holley cable rather than a stock replacement cable from my car.

Subbed!! Im buying a 650 brawler with no choke. So hopefully i dont have as much issue with it.

Thanks Dustyaman! I'm sure you will like it. Your experience will probably be a lot easier than mine! Follow back up after you get it on how it runs.

@Smackey's Garage Will do I will make a video of the new setup. My carb now is the factory quaderjet which is just a piece of junk my last engine I had was a brawler 650 with choke. I hated it.

      I'll be looking for it!

@Smackey's Garage yeah so far I've had the same issue with the brawler running stupid rich. I've gotten it to run better. But still way rich at idle. Now when you said you changed the power valve you said you went down to a 2.5. But it seemed after you said that that you went back to a 4.5. Can you elaborate. Did you make any jet changes.

Hey. I'm actually making another video on this now. So I definitely need to tweak the carb for my use. Now that everything seems to be OK at idle, I need to add more fuel to the primary side OR increase the value of the power valve. At temperature it could definitely use more fuel at higher RPMs.
When I did fix the rich problem, I did have to change the idle mixture screws. Where did yours come in out of the box?

hello I have a mopar 440 with single plane intake 750 holley with no choke. How to set it up is my question ??? i have never had a no choke carb.

You set it up similar to a choke car except you need to work the gas some to keep it running while it warms up. Kind of a pain to be honest....

My KTM 520 had a carburetor with a choke and it was great until I decided to rebuild the carburetor

It’s always downhill when you try and rebuild a carburetor lol

Carbs, and Carb tuning are sadly becoming a bit of a dying art as so many of us are going EFI now. Beautiful carb though, and Brawler is an awesome brand!

Yea it definitely is. If I didn’t want this car to be so nostalgic I’d probably convert to fuel injection.

some guys throw a rag over carb with no choke to get it fired up at first

    • @SmackeysGarage
      @SmackeysGarage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That's a good tip. Annoying if you are just driving it for a cruise, but I understand why they would do it.

@@SmackeysGarage youve got me second guessing on what kind of choke to use, ha, just put on my first nice 4 barrel holley with an electric choke and it fires right up in the cold, might try a no choke this summer when its warm, thanks for the videos

I have a video on that that covers my experiences of each of the three choke styles I've tried. I've got to say, a manual choke or electric choke is a nice setup if you don't need to move the car while it is warming up. th-cam.com/video/nMVJpY-ksdU/w-d-xo.html Personally, i wouldn't go no choke on a street car.
