Just another tip to add. Instead of removing the center pin from the MDS sensor and insert the tap, you can just run a small screw into the plastic ring of the MDS sensor after you snap them off. I just did this on my ram 1500 and once I had the intake off it took me a matter of 5 minutes to get all MDS sensors out.
Thank you for making the 1000 dollar job I was quoted to do by my mechanic easy as pie , I felt like I was your apprentice and I learned that it isn't Voodoo to do ! Many thanks 👍 I'm now subbed

Thank you, great video! Answered all my questions, now I'll have a professional quality job and save about a grand. I probably would have broken one of the new ones trying to get them in. They don't go easily.
I just received the P3449 fault code on my 2012 Charger rt. Cylinder#7 deactivation solenoid. I’m wondering if this job would be covered under an extended powertrain warranty that I purchased.
I know a guy who need this part on his Aspen and he saying it causes his vehicle to only run in tow mode otherwise his truck shakes in regular drive. Does that sound about right because im looking to buy it
I’m having to do this on my 2014 ram 1500 and I can’t find any videos on a truck I’d assume since it’s the same engine it would be relatively the same operation right?
Hey whoa you should disconnect the neg battery terminal first before disconnecting any thing from under the hood bcuz it will cause computer program problems especially when it comes to throttle body sensor mines was replaced and the shop didn't disconnect the neg battery terminal as I ask and it through codes and would not crank up again
This was the best step by step video I've ever seen. Thanks brother. I am having problems with my 2006 Jeep grand cherokee 5.7 Hemi. I wasn't having any issues at all , but then I decided to change the injectors. Why did I do that???😫 I did it because I was bored and for the last 3 yrs I would sometimes smell gas through the vents not that often, just when passengers were riding with me lol 🤣, but it never ran bad slow or sluggish until I changed the fuel injectors. Now I'm getting missfire code 0303 cylinder 3, code 1416 1417 codes are popping up, and now its running sluggish. What have I done? 😩
This is a fantastic ‘how-to’ as always; but why are your solenoids long while some others are shorter? We’re they different for different years? My ‘14 Ram (5.7L) shows shorter ones. I’m confused. Thanks 🇨🇦
I don't know if they changed something from 06 to 09. but my battery is in the trunk. My engine doesn't run super smooth it does shake ever so slightly but not much. Might have to do with cylinder 1 having lower compression than the rest about 90 psi while the others were like 120-130 psi I believe.
All these videos say the say thing " remove the 4 bolts on each side . Well I've got 5 on each side and so does every single one of the 5.7.,6.1,6.4l hemis I've put my hands on ?
Hi great video do you recommend dorman mds solenoids. Im currently working on a 09 ram 5.7 came after 3 mechanics. They replaced cam and lifters and mds solenkid but it keeps trowing p03497 after a highway drive. I removed head n oil galleys look fine but i did notice they replaced mds solenoids with Dorman aftermarket mds. I suspect the brand. Any advice would be highly appreciated
I need to add a WARNING! On my 2006 Grand Cherokee, I had a shop replace the starter. They left the battery disconnected for some time. When I got it back, the 6 CD changer stereo was brain dead. All I could do was take it apart and get my CD's out. If there are CD's in it when the power is disconnected for hours or days, and I assume, also if the terminals are shorted together, it bricks the stereo.
Just dud my 2006 ram hemi Was ok 👌 not to hard I couldn't get the fuel disconnected so I put it aside Removed the throttle body Had 2 msd break off Used the self tapping screw in one Got it out Not to hard The reason I had to do this is a code came up about the left side msd system Then #4 was not kicking So I ordered all 4 (not to bad $300) So let's see
a dealership wants to charge me $1186 for a 2014 charger work. they said solenoid AND wiring harness for the price I mentioned BOTH need to be replaced I feel like I'm being scammed for that price, let alone the idea that the wiring harness needs replacing.
Great video. I want to know if a BADMSD could cause these error codes on a 2007 Jeep GC 5.7L HEMI. P1417 - Cylinder 7 Reactivation Control Performance P2320 - Ignition coil 7 secondary circuit - Insufficient Ionization I already put new spark plugs and coil pack for cylinder 7. Checked the cables, power comes through, spark plugs working fine. The codes are still active. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
+Susith Dunukara Thanks for watching! We would not be able to diagnose an issue like that for you. If you are unsure what the root cause could be we recommend having a reputable shop take a look!

Once you have the screw in the sensor just use a regular hammer to pull them up and out.
Best mechanic video ever thank you for explaining ever single step. 👍👍👍

Thank you for this video, well done... Don't know if I feel comfortable doing it but videos like this are why I love TH-cam
Thank you for a great video.
But what are the symptoms leading us to replace the MDS Solenoids also any errors codes ?

What is the reason for the discharge capacitors step?
Thank you . My mds went out and you have the best guide to replace it
Thank you so much brotha Gob Bless you all 🙏 be safe and Hi from Oregon!!!

Where can I find a set of MDS wire harness like the one in this video with similar pigtail connectors? My wires are shot.
Is it good if the lower piece spins?

Did you fix it?
thankyou for the great vid, dont think I could afford a shop to do this.
Does this work for the code cylinder 4 deactivation control circuit

Well done, thanks for the thorough info without trying to be a comedian.
Duo you recommend replacing them with the lifters??
Best mechanic video great job man and thank you 👍
hello question did you use spare parts? or oem did it work fine?
The solenoids will rotate about 1/2 ", if you do that first, they generally will pop out without breaking. Not always tho... 😞
Is it a good idea to replace all four solenoids while your in there?
Not worth it, you should be fine with just replacing one.
What was the purpose of discharge the capacitors by disconnecting the battery?
To reset the PCM and force the computer to re-learn.
Can this be applied to my Chrysler 300c with a 5.7 hemi, v8, from 2005?
Thank you very much for this beautiful video. Best regards
a French mechanical

very well made , clear video.
Is it best practice to replace all solenoids at the same time or just the failed one?
While you have it open, you should because most likely the others will fail.
Will this cause the engine to not start ?
So to a dodge charger 2008 2.7 motor the solenoids in the transmission ? Where is the solenoid
Hopefully not a stupid question...
Is the cylinder deactivation solenoid the same thing as this?
Yes
What spray are you using?

Did you clear the ECM by touching the positive and negative battery cables together? 100% necessary after replacing MDS solenoids.
did the car misfire before you changed it ?

Just dud my 2006 ram hemi
Was ok 👌 not to hard
I couldn't get the fuel disconnected so I put it aside
Removed the throttle body
Had 2 msd break off
Used the self tapping screw in one
Got it out
Not to hard
The reason I had to do this is a code came up about the left side msd system
Then #4 was not kicking
So I ordered all 4 (not to bad $300)
So let's see
Will a bad one put a charger in limp mode
A bad throttle body will!
Why would the MDS sensors need replaced? I have a Jeep GC Hemi that runs fine with no CEL, but I am NOT getting the advertised 19MPG highway.
They will eventually fail like any component, usually causes misfires.
Great video
+Guillermo Segura Thanks for watching our video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Great video! Thank you.
How do I find the location of number 4 cylinder MSD solenoid location
Second spark plug from the front on the passenger side or the first MDS Solenoid on the passenger side from the front.
Thank you for the video
