I love older trucks for reasons One reason They are perfect. I want all the power I simply put my foot down. Even half throttle that old 5.7 would go up a hill up to 45MPH. Can cruise just fine also
I would recommend doing a mds delete, and installing a mildly aggressive cam, (not a cam aggressive enough to the point of getting a new stall converter). Maybe a stage 1 or 2 is enough. Also, upgrade your oil pump to a Melling 10452HV High Volume, that will protect your cam and top end at low RPMs and at idle. Just ensure your mechanic knows what he’s doing. Because you will HAVE to get your trucks ECM tuned to delete the MDS in your computer, plus adjust the intake for said CAM, its not hard or complicated, you or your mechanic needs a tuner, either HP Tuner, or a Diablo Tuner. Once your MDS delete and cam install is done…No more MDS issues, no more bogging out sounds, and no more delays in entering passing gear on the highway. You will have a true V8 vehicle ALL the time!! Im in the process of doing mine now….
I prefer using the Auto stick to put mine in 6th to deactivate it. The Tow mode seemed to rev the engine when I let off. I think it's designed to use the gears to slow down the vehicle. Helpful if a trailer wants to push you.

MDS has caused me a few unnecessary problems. It would have helped if the manufacturer had added a proper "MDS on/off" switch feature to give the driver the option to disable the MDS. Tow/Haul removes the use of overdrive on 2005 HEMI's. But I've learnt to live with it now after 18 years...
I work on aircraft and I wonder what damage overtime must does to the cylinders as its turns on and off and the cylinders run cold. Can't possibly be good for longevity of the motor
Same thing in Honda odysseys will cause the piston rings to align and oil to seep into the cylinders. Keeps everything lubed up, but that oil burns when it fires again. Pretty heavy oil consumption. About 1 qt every 1000 mi or more.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEO. MY QUESTION IS IF IT WORKS THE SAME WAY IN THE DODGE DURANGO OF 2005. PUT IN "D" and activate the tow haul. Thank you very much greetings from PERU.
Would driving with MDS deactivated help with the lifter lubrication problems? I have 104k on my 2016 and have been turning off Everytime I drive with the method demonstrated! I don’t notably have a tick! So just curious
No, we’ve actually figured out that your lifters get robbed of oil with MDS turned off, unless you have the solenoids replaced with plugs. Makes sense. I drive around constantly in manual mode, and my lifter just exploded. Currently rebuilding.
Not every lifter. I believe it’s only the Non MDS lifters that get robbed of oil which is stupid. When your engine is working the hardest, the MDS solenoid slows down the flow of oil going to the non MDS lifters.
@@BWADaniel - Trying to understand... Best scenario for motor lubrication is to remove the MDS system, plug the solenoid holes, replace MDS lifters with regular lifters, get a MDS delete tune? Pulsar. It hooks right into your ECU. If you get anything that plugs into your OBDII, you have to send your ECU to the factory (Edge, Diablo, etc) to have it unlocked. Pulsar goes through it the way it is, and all 4 levels have an MDS OFF option.
Great video, you guys' videos are always straight to the point and informative use the many times to fix family vehicles. To get to the point I have a 2022 Ram power wagon with the ZF 8 speed, now you did go through the process of how to shut MDS off with my type of shifter, when I push the up and down buttons on the steering wheel and put it in 8th gear on the dash as the maximum allowable gear, you're saying that will deactivate the MDS system until I turn that back to drive, even on the 6.4 l Hemi? I'm guessing that as long as it's the ZF 8 speed it will work?
Yeah, I've been manually turning off the MDS because of a bad rumbling from the engine if it's on when switching from 4 to 8 cylinders. But now I've read that with the MDS off, oil lubrication to certain cylinders is diminished and can cause lifter problems. I'd like to know if this is a problem or not because I don't want to ruin the engine, yet it runs crappy with the MDS on. I had my truck checked out three times, two of whuch were at the dealership and they felt and heard what I was talking about and the answer I received was that it was just the characteristic of the truck. They also stated that on earlier trucks there was a computer update that fixed the rough transition, but nothing for my truck. Not acceptable, because the truck runs crappy with it on, but if turning it off might ruin the engine, then what the heck? Does anyone else have information as to the engine getting damaged if the MDS is turned off?
MDS is useless and creates problems. I tuned my 06 with a superchips flashpaq. Disabled MDS entirely. Runs a lot smoother and didn't change the MPG. Over 2 years, no problems.
I disabled eco mode/mds by setting my manual gear range. The next day my check engine light came on for a minor evap system leak, engine also cuts out when remote starting. Is this related?

You had it rotate really? You do know your lifters are inserted into a holder which prevents that from even possible. The lifters top has 2 flattened sides on top so they can not turn at all once the go into the lifter holders and then bolted down .No way to even push the lifter into holder unless the roller is orientated properly to roll on cam lobes. Im betting your roller just locked up and started to chew the cam and did not rotate, then it got deep enough into the cam that both sides of the lifter legs that the roller pin goes through began to help chew into the cam also and causes the lobe to look like its a U shape chewed out of the lobe/lobes (usually happens to lobes beside each other from debris locking up that roller from the real lifter failure. This is normally what it looks like on every failed lifter/cam I have done. I'm guessing you ignored the tap noise and just kept driving it as if it was just a normal hemi tick. Most are failed lifter on a non MDS cylinder. Only 4 cylinders have MDS lifters.Cyl 5 is most common failed lifter I have come across and it is a non MDS cylinder. Not the only place they fail now but most common one. Replace the MDS solenoids (if your not deleting them) because they will be packed with metal sludge.Ya break them most times removing anyhow unless ya blow them out. Easier to the just screw them and use hammer claw to pop them out.Can use compressed air but when your in a bay with other vehicles beside you dont want it to launch and dent paint or spray nasty oil out all over everywhere.Nice easy and no mess with the hammer claw.

thankjs for the info have a tuner but i don`t delete mds on my 2013 ram not since gas got rediculous it has a 80,000 mile 2014 replacement motor i have flowmaster 40 series offroad edition when mds come on my truck sound like it has a jake brake (retarder)it turns off instantly when i push the pedal no delay i also have a throttle response enhancer makes jump a lil better off the line also it dont give any more power or torque but it sure makes it funner ton drive and only cost $85 same damn thing as roar pedal color and price is the only difference
+Zak Stahl Thanks for the feedback!
I had an MDS lifter rotate 90 degrees and ate through the cam in a u-shape manner.
Is this the guy from RoboCop?
What tuner disables MDS, not interested in any other functions just kill MDS, thanks.
Depends on what vehicle your have with the hemi.....
This method doesn’t work on my vehicle. When I come to a stop, it downshifts into 1st, then has to be manually shifted again.
What about Chevy ?
Chevies have AFM (Active Fuel Management).
Oh boy, this is why non Stellantis certified people shouldn’t explain. Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong
essentially? oh really, so your saying essentially
I had a 2013Ram 1500 5.7 that could barely tow 4k.
Why buy one anyway? ?
Clearly your not a golfer
I don't use mines it will make it drink gas!, higher rpms,it's bad in the motor.i just drive mines 55mph,saves gas
