      I absolutely love mine! She’s a 2001 x-cab on a full tube frame, slammed on coilovers with a turbocharged 6.0 and T-56. On drag radials, the weak link is the T-56. I’ve destroyed 3 so far. My current unit is a “Texas six-speed” built Magnum unit. Holding well, so far. I had her on air bags for a while, but she handled terrible! I settled for a static drop.

I'm looking for an LS, 5.3 would work. Not looking to race, and I already have a 2" body lift. The body just 2" off the frame makes a difference. I've been building cars for 45 years and have done a 350 into a 2000 Blazer zr. It was a bitch. And not worth it. But LS seems great. Thanks, appreciate the info.

    The gray is a tasteful classic color. Very cool ride.
    BTW now is a very good time to get the pieces for these projects as the supply of used trucks with good sheet metal is disappearing. The old guys here have lived through previous gens becoming expensive and hard to find, so if you can score a decent S10 with or without a drivetrain I suggest snagging it.

      Any issues with the steering shaft and headers?

  • @charlesamey3144
    @charlesamey3144 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I've got a 1999 ZR2 s10 5 speed manual regular cab that I shoved in a 5.3 liter from a 2004 silverado. I wanted to open the hood and have everything look just like it was stock. Conversion parts for a 4x4 are few and far between, and its about the same for a manual transmission. The donor engine was not taken care of, the ends of a few pushrods were chewed up from the lack of oil. Anyway, I tore that engine down, had it bored 30 over which was completely unnecessary. Following the recommendations from Comp Cams, I swapped the cam out for one that was more suited to a lighter truck with a manual transmission. I don't have a garage, I did this swap on a dirt driveway in the middle of the summer, not fun at all. Pulling the old 4.3 liter out was a major chore. The transmission wouldn't go back far enough to clear the input shaft out of the back of the crank because the firewall was in the way. I unbolted the cab and jacked it up a few inches to get the transmission out. I was NOT going to take a hammer to the firewall! I got a set of Sanderson headers, had to build the collectors. The passenger side exhaust was the hardest side to build and put together. The cooling system was probably the worst part of this build. I went through several radiators from a certain company - that company blamed me for everything! After contacting another company, I finally got a PROPERLY built aluminum radiator with a pair of Spal cooling fans. I could go on because about 14k miles later, I had to build another engine, won't go there right now. Anyway, pulling this swap off is not an easy task and it ain't cheap either. The fun factor of driving the truck with this much engine is off the charts!

    • @JasonMcCord-qk3yb
      @JasonMcCord-qk3yb 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You get the springs for the 4.3 v6. The weight is pretty close. Also, there were a few s10’s made with the 5.3 v8. I’ve only seen a few, and IIRC, they were all crew-cab models…. The LSX family of motors are fairly similar in weight to the 4.3 (4.3 is iron block/iron heads, with low “skirt”. LSX motors are iron block/aluminum heads, with high “skirt”. ). Of course the “performance” versions (the “true” LS-) have aluminum blocks, but they are harder and more expensive to come by. Either way, similar weight.
