G.A.M.A I agree. Same with internships; I’ve been rejected from an interview with internships and I’m highly confused 🤷🏿♀️ maybe I have the wrong definition of what an internship is, but it’s an opportunity for college students-near graduates to obtain the experience that employers desire from applicants. Mysterio Amigo: I am not surprised. I reckon better than 80% of the vacancy postings on recruiting sites like Indeed, Workopoplis, Monster etc are fake or long expired to generate site traffic or worse nothing to do with jobs because they are just scammers fishing for personal info to sell to "analytics" firms who target advertising, or even identity theft. Job hunting used to be so much easier when the employer had to pay to put an ad in the newspaper for an XYZ technician. There was a certain "vacancies day" & you would buy a newspaper, trawl the back pages, write a letter with a dedicated resume & post it to the company by snail mail. This requirement to pay something up front weeded out the fake job ads & the "spray & pray" applicants. Right georgeEPC. lol. It's still who you know and if they like you, no matter how many hours of hard work you put into learning many skills and education first.
and some recruiters. I get contacted for jobs and they are't even sure on the specific of the job function, requirements and often it is a temporary position, but then they will ask me if I am interested. Many HR reps and recruiters will not even use email, they will just call at some random time and then ask you to call back, no time / day offered. So you wind up paying phone tag for days. I even had one that I emailed my phone number 4 times and she kept calling back on another number that I wasn't available on. Then she said that they had to 'move on' because they couldn't reach me.
So basically, now a days we have to go through this game and make friends with the people online? Like and share? SMH. No, who would actually want to hire a server who is amazing, qualified, loyal? No, we want people who are social media pro's. Thanks, great tips, but it truly means that I'll be unemployed.
sydney alexander getting a job is like trying to join the Mafia. This is the reason why gossips and narcissists are filling the workplace while responsible, reliable, hardworking people like us aren’t wanted anymore. And we aren’t. This is the reason why I’m moving to Asia and giving up US citizenship. America is not a country. It’s a giant mega corporation. Good luck to you👍 if you can, leave America.
I cannot express how much I agree with you! The only places that’ll really look at you without these tricks are the places that hire everyone, no experience needed, and where no one wants to work.
I work in career services at a college Sydney, and everything she's saying can be effective and often does work. It can be like "game" but a very beatable game. If youre a passive job seeker and just click apply youre chances are slim to none. But being an active seeker by taking these steps, is sometimes tedious but your results are significantly better. But its up to you.
sydney alexander when you really want the job you’re willing to go the extra mile. Especially if it involves an amazing company and you found your way in the door - why not do everything possible to stand out?
It crazy, my first job was in 2006. Back then I was getting interviews left, right and centre. I would also get calls pretty much daily from agencies, all without much effort. 15 years later, with 10 years experience in my field. I tailor my resume to each job, put in hours of work for some positions and now I can't find another position in my field.
4:15 is unrealistic. Sometimes employers post and tries to find someone who can do it all (ie. know and master every technology stack and programming languages out there). As someone working in the technology industry, that is nearly impossible. Finding a 90-100% match to the job requirements is unrealistic.
Yes, that's true but she said that 'rule' is only relevant if you apply online, not if you go around the recruiter which is what is much likely to succeed. And this applies only to companies that use an ATS - which is most companies. Your application is read by a machine - software configured to reject all applications that don't match a list of skills.
As a college grad who has had three internships and a few years of working experience with all of my jobs combined, I strongly believe it comes down to company values and equitable hiring practices. There are high level HR managers who make it a part of their job to increase opportunity for entry level and diverse candidates and there are those that don't seek anything but a resume and job description match.
Most of the job postings I see are ridiculous. Must have experience in a list of 50 different technologies, be able to do everything themselves with little or no guidance and training, manage a team a people on a tight budget and even tighter deadlines. Anyone who can do all of those things would not work for you, who is apparently incapable of doing those things yourself. They should start their own company and make millions, not get paid 80k at your dysfunctional company.
This shouldnt be the way... Now adays mankind has to roll over play dead and beg for his/her job, and if there a good boy or girl they get a treat and a belly rub.
If ur not a robot then ur not getting hired! I'm too old for a career....just want a job! It's ridiculously insane what is expected for a minimum wage position!!
You need a job in order to get experience, but you need experience in order to get a job. SO if no one will hire you, than how do you get that experience?

Where I live I find 99% of jobs say they require "rockstar communition skills" or something like that. I am a shy introverted person who also has terrible handwriting. I feel like I am discriminated against at every turn because I'm not a type A personality. How do I find jobs that are a 90% match when no one seems to be looking for someone with my personality type?

That's a tough one. Remember that most of the job ads is wishful thinking; They want the best possible people, so they just include such things in the ad. You don't have to fill all the requirements to apply, and a good workplace for you will be understanding with your personality. Of course you'll have to qualify for the job otherwise, like she said. That said I get really anxious around people, so I apply for newspaper delivery, packaging jobs, etc or tiny companies where you pretty much mind your own business. Excuse my english, this sounds weird even to me lol
Confidence is key. Believe you will get the job before you even begin the application process. Highlight your strengths and skills and tailor them to the job you are applying for. Your handwriting can be fixed, even if its just for the application. It's not as much about your personality as it is your confidence in your ability to fill the role they are looking for. O, and follow the tips on this channel. They're excellent.
I think you use your "networking" to get old work colleges to stick their neck out for you & speak to someone on your behalf. After being out of work for over 3 months, I can't be fussy, so this is my personal feedback for these 6 excellent points; 1) I will have to try track dozens of companies that have a tiny chance of having a job that I can do. 2) I will try this when I can find any job posting to attempt. 3) I have looked at hundreds of posted jobs and can't match more than about 70% requirements at the best of times. This means that I have to try get past the ATS, but that seems impossible. 4) I have a broad skill set. Most jobs want some strength in a specific skill and so I can't beat those who focus on that one thing. 5) makes sense 6) I doubt that people 'know' (i.e. have personal credibility with) most of the people they are connected to on Linked In, but it is worth a try anyway.
J.T., you made me get the job offer! I'm an active referrer of Work it Daily. This information is a great direction. Remember this is to see how much work you want to do to get that job. If you just want to throw your resume out there you are fooling yourself. If you think that just because you have a college degree it gives you a sure win, again fooling yourself. Do the work, like she is talking about. There is no quick wins anymore unless you win the lottery and even then you have to do some homework on how to manage your money. We need to stop complaining and take responsibility for yourself and put effort into your career. These videos are some of the best I have seen and I have watched a lot as this is what I do for work, to help people find work.
I had a period of time 2014-2015 where I didn't get a interview, and I still don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've changed my application three times, and it's so rare for me to get an interview
I am in the same hole....I match the criteria for some jobs better than 90% & have tried all sorts of resume styles, 1 page, 2 page, targeted...yada yada...cover letters...blah blah. Sometimes I think that I might need to tie my resume to a brick & chuck it through the CEO's window to get noticed! Did you figure it out?
I normally call the employer after I applied online and let them know I recently applied and ask them personally if they are actively and currently seeking employees (Online applications are commonly outdated). This lets them know that I eager to work and aiming for a job interview.
Usually all they do if you actually know the company to contact is tell you to just apply on line and if they need to they will contact you for an interview.
All of these videos and your company is what I really need right now. It divinely found its way to my search on TH-cam. I’m so grateful for all of this.
Great advice. Another point might be to add that timing is important as well.... apply for a position quite soon after it has been posted. Thank you for your guidance!
I disagree about the 100% match thing. I've gotten jobs where I was not an ideal match, but something caught their attention about the way I presented myself in the cover letter and resume. In fact, most of my most successful positions were with jobs where I wasn't a match. Otherwise, there would be no way for people to switch careers or positions. I'm not saying it's the easy way, but I think people should keep themselves open-minded and seek the opportunities they truly want.
this was also my first question watching the video... said to myself... ok what if i want to find a job different then i have done the passed 15 years... so im stuck being a warehouse manager? i cant except that... because i want to pursue something else and this kind of made me turned off about what she explained.

While I agree that it is harder to get an interview these days and that it's clearly due to the volume of applicants that employers are flooded with. I believe that it is also true that applicants have an easier time finding their ideal opportunity with the immense selection online. Perhaps it's the proverbial glass half full, but really it's just an expected trade off, when exchanging quality for quantity.
An employer of any meaningful size will not care about you liking or sharing their posts. Still good advice since it's a possibility. Great information though.
My experience is that no amount of innovation in applying online has ever worked. The only way I've ever been able to get my foot in the door of a firm is through recruiting firms.
I'm sorry to hear that that has been your experience so far. I can say that while it's not easy to stand out when applying online it's not impossible. I don't like the idea of mixing business with pleasure. I understand being professional on all platforms but my social media is my personal page I really shouldn't have to do all this for a simple entry level position. UGH! Thank you for the tips. I have been unemployed for over a year with a bachelor's degree in Education but don't want to teach and no one wants to hire a teacher. I have management experience but everyone seems to want a business degree. In a country that doesn't value education and doesn't acknowledge how the ability to teach can be co-habitable with training and organization skills that they are looking for. I can ace an interview if I can just get one and get past the fact that I have an education degree. I just need to figure out how to get someone to give me a chance. Every employer that I have ever had has been overly surprised and elated to have me, but now I'm stuck with this online world.
Looking for a new job can sometimes feel like the chances of hitting the lottery. Thank you so much for the tips though, I'm definitely going to be taking this advice.
This method and these steps are great for the applicant who is only interested in applying for a position with one company. And yes, companies do feel good when they believe applicants only want to work for them, but how can any job seeker sustain this model, when 9 times out of 10, that one company won't even get in touch with them, let alone extend a job offer. Job seekers cannot just apply to one job with one company and put all their eggs and job application methods in that one basket. Additionally from what I've experienced, on LinkedIn when you reach out with a connection request...no matter how professionally you word it, if someone doesn't know you, they ignore your connection request.
Thank you! I was thinking this is impractical for someone who wants a job soon. At the moment I can’t afford to be selective and curate myself for a couple select companies. I feel the need to send a bunch of apps and template cover letters to as many postings as possible for now.
My question is how do you follow up after applying for a job on line if you cant get a contact # and/or email of someone in human resources to inquire and they dont want you stopping in in person and inquiring? Never get past the front desk and/or security
It is a real conundrum. I am British but live in Canada but I find this sort of "cold calling" INCREDIBLY rude. I am an engineer not a salesman....a guy with a calculator & a scope probe. Sure I work well in teams of like minded engineers & technicians (technical weirdos) but cold calling? It is especially hard when you don't know 1> if a call will be well received. 2> who you are calling & what to ask. 3> if it is convenient. 4> if the job even exists!...because there are so many stale postings or non existent "click bait" postings.
In some career paths, using social media might make you look incompetent, because it shows ignorance of server side data mining and risk mitigation. For marketing, media and sales it's probably the opposite. You can also probably open lines of communication through phone calls and email too, most companies usually have that info on their website.
I did all of that and I was an exact match for the position, and all I got back was just keep applying. That’s the advice that they gave me. So I guess All I can say is, now what?
I just want to thank you for your video's. I really benefited from them. Because now I see everything I was doing wrong. In reality I basically had no clue. So thank you very much.
This was so informative and power packed with great career advice! I have been completely frustrated with Indeed & couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong in not getting calls. I’ve really fallen into a depression from it believing I’m not as marketable in today’s industries. I am completely changing how I go about my search based on your tips! Can you give any insight to Zip Recruiter as a job seeking platform?
This is the best advice I've had when It comes to this topic. Well, I just watched it so I haven't verified for sure,. But I'll come back and let you know. It really made me excited tho and feels like great ideas!
Another tip, do not use Ziprecruiter, I applied for an insurance job outside of Houston on Ziprecruiter and got several emails from Ziprecruiter saying that my application had been viewed 3 times and I was likely a candidate. I called this company to ask about the hiring process and was told that they had not gotten anything from me through Ziprecruiter.
@Echo Boi Bullying someone for not having a job? Really? I mean it would be one thing if this person was lazy and not even looking for a job, but this person clearly wants to work so why would you bully them for having trouble
Does a local store ore regional manager actually look online to see if I have been "liking and sharing" the corporate Facebook posts before calling me for an interview? Seriously?
@@davidbrewer7937 I've seen a lot of your comments and you really speak the truth. My director checks out applicants' social media pages well before their interview and trust me - he is not looking for "likes"!
To Lone Survivor: Yes. This can happen. You have oodles of opportunity to enhance your research by this electronic means with those full of wisdom. Also, there are many aspects of "soft skills" which one would need, which a good interviewer would decipher. It is all about life's preparation prior to pursuing a profession. It is feasible, but there are so many small nuances which can become a nuisance if not nurtured through practice and preparation. Your choice of handle/name is not the nuance since you had chosen the variation of spelling -- but, be careful, though -- go through everything with a fine-toothed comb.
Be selective in your application ...Easy to say when your government forces you to do so many applications or lose your benifits. This relates to extra work for employers who have to sift through piles of applications from employees that have no intention of working for them
@workitdaily, I'm really surprised that you say that I shouldn't apply for a role unless I meet 90 to 100% of the qualifications? I have often heard that H.R. writes these descriptions for the "perfect candidate" who doesn't really exist and to apply if I meet at least 60% of the criteria. Can you elaborate more on the 60% "rule" and this stat?
Why should I have to be emotionally involved with the company? I have two decades of experience. They aren't seeking me out and telling me why they're so interested in my skill set.
Yeah to be honest i can’t get myself to pretend that I care enough about a company whose existence I found out about a few seconds ago. And I have yet to see job postings for a company that I sincerely care about. I just want a job where I can use my skills and survive.
What do I do if I want to maintain my privacy (i.e don't want to follow/share anything with the company via social media)? How much of a negative impact will that have on my job search process?
Likindin, monster jobs, indeed etc. Go to local / state job sites and copy and paste jobs. They also go to company websites and copy and paste jobs. If you really want to be hired go to the website of the company you want to work for. Make sure that you use the terms in their discription in your resume and cover letter.
Yeh...I am at that. I spend all day searching & applying for suitable stuff but the time I take to move my mind sideways & do something else gets longer & longer...Eventually you loose the will to even try & some days I decide to do something else entirely.
I have a question What if you're a high school graduate who is taking first steps into the job world and trying to apply for a job with no work experience?
Jaxel Scythe it's basically thru HS friends. Similar to networking. My first job was at an outlet store and I was worked with several HS friends. That was in the late 90s. I was 17 so that's before I graduated.
Hi there! You might want to learn more and be prepared for your job. Here's something i found which will be really helpful for you to be outstanding at work. It helped me, I am sure it will for you. Check this video -- th-cam.com/video/FcdxEL9zTBA/w-d-xo.html
Go to your local State Employment office. They should have an area specifically for young adults: resume writing, typing skills/testing, interview prep, and sometimes even a clothes closet for you to have or borrow business appropriate clothing for your interviews. In Sacramento CA, the agency is called SETA (Sacramento Employment Training Agency) - see if there is something similar. If not, the local employment (where you would file for unemployment) should be able to point you in the right direction. Also, definitely volunteer; as another person mentioned. Something you'd enjoy; local animal shelter, meals on wheels, senior living centers may need someone to read or socialize with the residents who don't have family nearby.
I am in for a couple of jobs now which I match better than 90% for the whole requirement list but this is not the first time....yet no call backs...I am yet to figure out what I am doing wrong. The problem I see is that job hunting is a high level skill you need do once perfectly every 10 years, then you do other stuff in between & forget how to do it plus they move the rules during that time. Just think about something you did in a previous job but have not done for a decade....how good would you be if you had to hit the road running now?...you would need to learn it again!
From a former hiring manager, these are excellent tips!!
Thank you! :)

Corporate fascism is more interested in compliant people who love being underpaid and abused. They no longer want intelligent, dignified employees.
Lol if you’re gonna be that lazy then I guess you’re right. You’ll never succeed with that attitude
That's what we like to call the "Unicorn" candidate
Yes, that's true but she said that 'rule' is only relevant if you apply online, not if you go around the recruiter which is what is much likely to succeed. And this applies only to companies that use an ATS - which is most companies. Your application is read by a machine - software configured to reject all applications that don't match a list of skills.
No wonder. It seems that the majority of employers don't respond on Indeed.
Go to the company's direct website and apply. Applying on Indeed your app is just tossed into a pool of other applicants.
Listen to that dog, it knows the truth !!
I believe the same thing based on my experience with Indeed.
SUGAR XYLER lol
Ooo
I followed your instructions + tips and watched almost all the videos of yours. Got an interview and landed my dream job. Thank you very much.
I only use social media to see whats available but I always go to the company's direct website to apply.
Yes I've heard this is best.
But what about when the companies website takes you to ones of those indeed websites to actually apply?
Thank you! My husband applied using most of these tips three years ago and landed a great job. It's nice to get updated and refined tips!
Lucky him

Most of the job postings I see are ridiculous. Must have experience in a list of 50 different technologies, be able to do everything themselves with little or no guidance and training, manage a team a people on a tight budget and even tighter deadlines. Anyone who can do all of those things would not work for you, who is apparently incapable of doing those things yourself. They should start their own company and make millions, not get paid 80k at your dysfunctional company.
It's their dream candidate. If you have a handful of the "requirements" you are good to go.
Yes...no one wants to train people no more and if they do, very inadequate training. Talking from experience.
@@ultravioletpisces3666 yet we are told in another clip here you should not even bother unless you are better than an 80% match...
$80k?!? That’s dreaming, in Miami they want you to basically do the job of 5 people and pay you $12 an hour, no joke
Right, if I was that amazing I would just work for myself.
This shouldnt be the way... Now adays mankind has to roll over play dead and beg for his/her job, and if there a good boy or girl they get a treat and a belly rub.

The worst is these companies making you create an account just to apply to a job.
When you will never go to that website again.
Fill out every field is amazing advice! Definitely something that not a lot of people know about

Andrew Parker Looking for a job? Instacart is always hiring! No interview needed, just apply, pass a background check and wait for the company card. If you have any questions, TH-cam has thousands of videos 😄 and of course you can pm me!

Why are shy people always overlooked smh
without connections its waste of time
Sadly yes.
I think you use your "networking" to get old work colleges to stick their neck out for you & speak to someone on your behalf. "What's this guy like?....Oh yes he's a great guy!....OK Get him to call me tomorrow" But the problem comes when you recommend someone but the whole thing turns out to be a bad hire.

As an adult student, starting to apply with companies as I’m nearing the end of completing my degree ….. while also having nearly no experience…. I wanted to say THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! So much helpful input and great ideas. Especially for someone like myself who struggles to stand out on sites like Indeed being I’m not exactly qualified yet. Officially LIKED AND SUBSCRIBED ✅
I am very much stressed to find a online jobs! became depressed! 'coz actually i sends a lot of resume a day on different company and it's really hard for me to find until now before I saw your video.. thanks a lot.
This was totally AWESOME. I will try these steps for sure.
After being out of work for over 3 months, I can't be fussy, so this is my personal feedback for these 6 excellent points;
1) I will have to try track dozens of companies that have a tiny chance of having a job that I can do.
5) makes sense
6) I doubt that people 'know' (i.e. have personal credibility with) most of the people they are connected to on Linked In, but it is worth a try anyway.
Where those days when you have to only fill out application great days
I can't believe youtube give knowledge such as this for free, thank you so much!!!

Trying to get a job in a new field even with college courses seem a waste of time and energy of this is true. So much for moving into a new field.
This a living hell.

Have tried the last two steps. I just got a: Please don't call
Outstanding content!

I normally call the employer after I applied online and let them know I recently applied and ask them personally if they are actively and currently seeking employees (Online applications are commonly outdated). This lets them know that I eager to work and aiming for a job interview.
That's a good tip :)
Usually all they do if you actually know the company to contact is tell you to just apply on line and if they need to they will contact you for an interview.
@@lianelayman7577 yes but they will hear your name again and that can help.

Great advice. Another point might be to add that timing is important as well.... apply for a position quite soon after it has been posted. Thank you for your guidance!
Omg this helped me so much, I got a job at Spencer’s because of this video… Keep up the great work❤
I disagree about the 100% match thing.
It’s unreal how right you are. There are so many things we do and we aren’t even aware of it.
I always thought a big company wouldn’t respond to my inquiries, but I’ll totally try your advice!
I’m a senior in high school and I’ve applied to at least 10 jobs on indeed and only one of them emailed backed to call them, and of course, I didn’t get the job. I need a job or at least a few interviews within a couple weeks. Why is getting a job so hard!!! Time to try Glassdoor.
Try Hobby Lobby. They have paper apps and I have posted their pre employment math test. They are closed on Sundays so that's a plus.
Thank you so much for your advice! I had been using Indeed and Monster, just applying for everything I thought I was able to do. But then I saw your video on using a Disruptive Cover Letter and used it to apply for a job AND IT WORKED!!! I not only got a phone and face-to-face interview - I GOT THE JOB! I couldn't believe it! THE very first time I used this approach, it worked!!! I'm amazed by how much time I wasted looking for a job with a Cover Letter that was being ignored. Now I have a job that pays enough for me to finally get my own place...no more roommates! I've viewed other videos on your channel as well, but you have a lifetime subscriber here! Excellent, easy-to-follow advice AND WITH RESULTS! THANK YOU, THANK YOU so very much!

You know what? You CERTAINLY hit the nail on the head when you highlighted just how frustrating online job hunting is.
An employer of any meaningful size will not care about you liking or sharing their posts. Still good advice since it's a possibility. Great information though.

@Onkar Sandhar Good idea. I actually have been trying just that. I'll see where it takes me. Thanks
Darren Crispin I’m wondering the same thing.

Does a local store ore regional manager actually look online to see if I have been "liking and sharing" the corporate Facebook posts before calling me for an interview? Seriously?
The point is that you do it *for valuable information.* not for points with the company just for following.

Be selective in your application ...Easy to say when your government forces you to do
so many applications or lose your benifits. This relates to extra work for employers
who have to sift through piles of applications from employees that have no intention of working for them

Just like me.
Use your states employment agency. It's free and they are there to help. They will help with the resume and learning the interview process. Good luck
Great tips and so much insight from an experienced HR like you! Thank you!
Hahaha no one matches 100%. Are you kidding me? If you do match 100% than you don't need all these other tips.
Sam ha I think she means key words on your resume should match these job postings 90-100% learn those key terms
