  • One of a series of videos on Chesil Beach in Dorset, UK.
    This video includes sessions targeting rays at the deeper, Portland end. It a compilation of daytime sessions (14.12.22, 17.01.23, 31.01.23, 12.02.23 18.03.23 and 08.06.23), fished at marks along the Masonic Carpark stretch, near Weymouth (Dorset, UK). The fist session produced pouting, whiting, and a dogfish and strap congers and a mackerel were also caught in subsequent sessions. Unfortunately rays did not make an appearance and there were a number of blanks. Nevertheless, I cover the rigs and techniques employed in order to try and catch them.

    Hi Mick,
    Great vid.
    I do enjoy watching very detailed indeed.
    I agree with the other comments below your second fish was indeed a Pollock. Not a bad size at all. Well done and keep up the good work.
    Tight lines.

      Yes - I do make a few fish ID mistakes now and again!

    Hi Mick. It looked to cold during that first session but your perseverance is unquestionable! Better luck in January. Great video. Hope you are keeping well. Cheers. Ken

    Very good and informative video, the reality of your posts show that fishing is always a challenge and at times frustrating, that's real fishing thanks for sharing it.

    I love it when Chesil is empty like that. No crowds, just nice and peaceful.

    Dreams are broken there but magical memories can be made on that infamous beach, have never had a go down that end before though. A lovely mackerel at the end , appreciate your efforts sir 👍🏼👍🏼

    Good evening Michael
    Well done on your early session, not the fish of your choice but nevertheless a nice mix..the lack of fish on venues like this one and many others is very worrying, and I'm hearing lots of anglers reporting the same.....
    Thank you Michael and I hope your well.

    You certainly worked hard to put that video together. It looked freezing in the first visit, I wasn't sure if that hat made you look like Ghengis Khan or Elmer Fudd ! How do you find casting the urfe rig to avoid tangles ? Great watch, as ever, Michael. Must be bream and mullet time soon🤞🐟

      Thanks Rob. Got to keep your ears warm! I've not had problems with urfe rigs and should really use them more. I've been catching bream, but they take a bit longer to arrive at Chesil.

    Sprat and squid cocktail works very well for rays mate

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes - I agree; but sandeel and squid cocktail seems to be the bait for blond rays at Chesil.

    The 2nd fish at 9.05 looked like a pollack more than a whiting?

    • @iangraham3018

      It is definitely a Pollack 🙂

      Yes and probably some of the pouting I catch on Chesil are likely to be poor cod!

    A very interesting and informative video of your trials at Chesil. If you struggle then there’s not much hope for the rest of us. The first effort in December looked very cold and windy. What was the helicopter doing?

  • @bigmoncrief6071

    I wouldn't mind betting that Chesil has a pretty poor ratio of angler hours to fish caught compared with a lot of venues.

      Years back the beach was packed, as far as you could see full of people, if anyone caught anything, people would crowd around wanting to know what and how they caught it, it can be very hard, local knowledge helps a few yards off the hotspot and nothing.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - I agree. It's the same at the other end when after plaice - it can be brilliant at times, but no bites at all at other times.

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - even the hotspots can be fishless for weeks at a time, but then suddenly switch on - so locals are better placed to take advantage of this.
