  • In this episode I get scammed and robbed by shady characters in the Yala safari tour operator organized crime ring, in the gateway to Yala National Park, Tissamaharama. I also get assistance from friendly and helpful locals. Enjoy the beautiful national park but beware of the scams!
Thank you for watching and subscribe to join me on my adventures!

Don't trust ANYONE in Sri Lanka. They are very accustomed to ripping off tourists there. Big smiles, all happy, but don't be fooled, they are constantly thinking of how much you have and how little they have, and they seriously think that you owe them! "It's not fair, you are rich and I am poor. You owe me."
Scammers try every angle, from extortionate tuk-tuk rates to food prices, drinks prices, room rates. If you are white there is absolutely no doubt that you are a target. Sri Lanka is not scam city, it is scam country! Beware. Thieves!
This most definitely includes the police, who subsidise their income by scamming tourists. In fact, the police are the worst, because they will threaten you if you contest their claims. Dangerous people, the Sri Lankan police!

You're really lucky to see the leapords cuz its really really rare. I've been to Yala 4-5 times and never seen one yet and the driver itself told us that he has seen only 3 times for his 15years of work there. I'm really sorry about the scams you had to go through. Stay safe, stay blessed 🙌🏼. Thank you for visiting Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 🙏🏼

I’m lucky to see them… I’ve been to African safaris a few times and never seen one there. I will post the video of them in a future episode on Yala/Kumana. My tip is 1) Book with that driver; He’s the best 😁 and 2) Go in the morning not afternoon and 3) Be willing to stay multiple days in Tissa until you see them 😂

When ever you hire a tour guide, ensure that he is certified...this helps with complaints and arrests. all hotels, motels, home stay have to be registered with the Tourist Board and if they are, take a snap shot. tour drivers - no matter how experienced, must have certification. if you work outside these guidelines, you are on your own. the scums play on a persons pity and you must report them else smother person will fall into this trap. expose curruption

Even the certified ones are also sometimes scammers. I had experience with those so called “CERTIFIED” people coming to my villa and asking me for commission for bringing tourists.

I cannot imagine why foreign travellers fall into these traps. This traveller very correctly knew that some scammers travel as normal passengers upto the last point (in this instance it's Tissamaharama) & then say hello to the foreigners. I strongly assume the foreigners have heard about the friendly Sri Lankan citizens and very sadly fall into the traps of the scammers !!!! Very experienced travellers will shrug these crooks off without saying a word. A normal Sri Lankan will hardly talk to a foreigner on the road but smile at them & if asked something, they will very respectfully answer you & go ahead. But a scammer will follow a foreigner for miles & then try to sell something or offer anything which is not requested!!!! So, we request the future foreign travellers to be careful by not believing these crooks and falling into their traps.
It is high time the Sri Lanka Tourism development Authority (SLTDA) or Tourism Promotions Bureau (SLTPB) hand over some leaflets recommending HOW NOT TO FALL INTO TRAPS set by the touts, scammers & crooks in Sri Lanka. Happy journey
