Some of the best experiences I’ve ever had have been in the last week! I know the scam was small but it was the time that was of value and not the money in this case. I see some communication error there but I still do not like the man since when he tried to hussle you. The word "market" is generally understood as where we buy fish, meat, vegetables and fruits for cooking or eating. He too asked "vegetable?" and you have replied "yes".

My friend Pettah is a big market and local are called whole area that name if you wants to buy clothes and accessories you have to go world market its call world market its not pettah market . Its near by colombo fort railway station . Before coming to the Pettah area, it is very important to have a good understanding of the area, because the area consists of a large area and each place is called by a unique name, and only those names are used by the people in those areas. The second driver on the other hand, scammed you saying that it's not Pettah market, while you were at Pettah market. People like that scammer make foreign tourists have a bad impression about my country. I apologise for his behaviour, sir.

Pettah market is a huge area selling everything you imagine, from Vegetables to clothing, electronics ect: and it’s is not a exact location. The area you go depends what you want to buy
It's crucial to understand that Petta Market is a sprawling entity without a specific single location or building. This white guy unfamiliar with its layout, it's easy to misunderstand directions. The tuk driver might not have known where exactly this white guy wanted to go, especially this white guy mentioned that he wanted to buy bags later on. Pettah market is not like the market in other countries. It is scattered in several Colombo roads. Depending on what you want to buy, where you go will vary. The second driver tells you vegetable market first. But you want to buy clothes and bags. That is the place where you started your 2nd drive. I understand that you are nervous because of your first day. But getting a small amount like 100 rupees means that he is not a scammer in my opinion. Yes we agreed, there are lots of scammers in the Colombo area, meanwhile you have to select the location along with a landmark to meet your criteria. If you says Pettah market, it’s very hard to find because, the market is a circle, for a example: if you start from 1st cross street to up to 5th cross st, each street belongs to specific products, therefore please select specific products to reach your location. People in Sri Lanka are generally nice and welcoming, but if someone is too nice or overly welcoming BEware because that's highly likely a scam. Also, with Tuk Tuks, only use 'metered' ones as others are scammers.

The reason he only charged you 100 rupees is that he gets a commission from the shops that you are brought to. Plus you are holding a camera. He is a scammer 100%. These guys scam locals too who come from rural areas to colombo.

Pettah market has a huge area with specific streets for different items. Second tuktuk driver asks you about vegetable and you say yes yes pettah market.. So, he take you to vegetables. But if you say you want to buy clothes, then he will take you to clothes area of the pettah market. See the way he react to you at the end, taking the 100 rupees. He is just laughing innocently and taking the 100 rupees. Don't make these poor guys scammers, because you have a camera in your hand. Here, every people can't speak good English or understand very well. And how you say, item prices are higher? When the seller say the selling price, and if it is not your price, you can't say it's higher. Even the same item, they have different qualities. If you want, you can buy Nike, puma, addidas for cheap price in some shops, but you can't buy original one for same price. In the world, there are some bad people everywhere. I feel like, that you are also a person, who is promoting uber pick me, for money. Thankz for visting our country. We are a nations with great hospitality. You told him the wrong name for the market. Pettah market means in general where people sell vegetable, fish etc. If you need clothes and leather goods, you have to say that specifically, so that they can take you to the correct area within Pettah. Usually those shops are along Main Street which is also in Pettah.
Please do more research before posting negative videos. The Tuk Tuk guy was correct. Pettah market is large several acres, no specific place in this large area.

In USA also cab drivers asks for huge tips and also doesn’t come to pick if there is rain or something. Going by conversion rate any us citizen can still not get affected too much whatever little scam is done by these drivers. It’s like a little pay back for US dollars used for petrol and things like that. Take it that way although not right way. 😅
@@native_ty you didn’t verify the drop location of first auto. So it is definitely judgemental error on your part. Sorry to say. So Uber and Ola also works pretty well everywhere because the drivers knows that they are under watch. Hence the rating and complain system etc. 99% drivers wouldn’t screw up their ratings as it is their regular source of business. Less percentage would try to play around the system but won’t let their ratings get affected.

The tuk tuk man did not try to cheat..its a pure misunderstanding in use of name...market means to a Sri Lankan, a pola or vegetable or meat market. Yes Pettah had such a market before but was shifted to Paliyagoda. Today Pettah sells everything except veggies/meat..Some of these names on google deceive people.

I think you got confused the World Market with Pettah Market. World Market is next to Pettah Railway Station(Beware and avoid scammers there too). The Pettah is a big area and Manning Market is where they sell wholesale vegetables.

It was a total miscommunication and less understanding of what you were saying, and it doesn't seem like a scam for 0.3 USD; if he had done so, he should have asked for more. He took you a ride more than you paid him. Please study the area and the words people use to understand it better. Within a 1 to 2 km area, you get many marketplaces with similar names with small differences. 1st, he brought you to the Pettah area from the Fort area. Then he took you where you said you wanted to buy clothes and bags. Then Only you mentioned Pettah Floating Market (video @ 4.55). It's your fault, brother, for not clearly mentioning the "Floating" part. You should be humble enough to accept your fault and remove this from your account. all the best from a Sri Lankan who personally love to watch your videos

Pettah market isn't one place. Even I have to pay like 120 these days to travel 600m from the junction to my residence. He didnt scam you as you didn't tell him the correct location. What you could have done is, just tekk him to go in a specific direction thstbthe map showed as the meter would only charge for the distance travelled. Pettah market is a big area and the Google pin just drops off a random point, he is your average tourist guide that overcharges you to take you around Colombo but the Pettah thing was not a scam as the location is not an exact point you could say as Pettah market as it has multiple entrances and covers a few kilometers. I know that one of the previous bloggers or what not had a bad issue with a string hopper kottu place at armor street and it went viral and I had a role in making sure it went to the right authorities and swift action was taken. It however worried me because since such incidents go viral, what if other bloggers use it as a way just to paint people as scammers so their videos go viral given that issues like this persist in countries it’s already a hot topic. Now I see you doing this because of it. It’s not right man. Edit: you are a new and upcoming TH-camr, don’t make a scam story which isn’t even real your first viral post because we are not stupid. We stand up for what’s wrong but we also stand up to those who spread misinformation which in this case seems like it’s you.

Pettah market has a huge area with specific streets for different items. Second tuktuk driver asks you about vegetable and you say yes yes pettah market.. So, he take you to vegetables. But if you say you want to buy clothes, then he will take you to clothes area of the pettah market. See the way he react to you at the end, taking the 100 rupees. He is just laughing innocently and taking the 100 rupees. Don't make these poor guys scammers, because you have a camera in your hand. Here, every people can't speak good English or understand very well. And how you say, item prices are higher? When the seller say the selling price, and if it is not your price, you can't say it's higher. Even the same item, they have different qualities. If you want, you can buy Nike, puma, addidas for cheap price in some shops, but you can't buy original one for same price.

You told him the wrong name for the market. Pettah market means in general where people sell vegetable, fish etc. If you need clothes and leather goods, you have to say that specifically, so that they can take you to the correct area within Pettah. Usually those shops are along Main Street which is also in Pettah.

Going by conversion rate any us citizen can still not get affected too much whatever little scam is done by these drivers. So Uber and Ola also works pretty well everywhere because the drivers knows that they are under watch. Hence the rating and complain system etc. 99% drivers wouldn’t screw up their ratings as it is their regular source of business. Less percentage would try to play around the system but won’t let their ratings get affected.

The tuk tuk man did not try to cheat..its a pure misunderstanding in use of name...market means to a Sri Lankan, a pola or vegetable or meat market. Yes Pettah had such a market before but was shifted to Paliyagoda.
Today Pettah sells everything except veggies/meat..Some of these names on google deceive people.

I think you got confused the World Market with Pettah Market. World Market is next to Pettah Railway Station(Beware and avoid scammers there too). The Pettah is a big area and Manning Market is where they sell wholesale vegetables.

As this is 100 rupees, he would not be arrested. But thank you for publishing about the guy because he will be caught by locals thanks to your reveal. Recently SL police arrested and jailed a few of them that we saw on news.

It was a total miscommunication and less understanding of what you were saying, and it doesn't seem like a scam for 0.3 USD; if he had done so, he should have asked for more. He took you a ride more than you paid him. Please study the area and the words people use to understand it better. Within a 1 to 2 km area, you get many marketplaces with similar names with small differences. 1st, he brought you to the Pettah area from the Fort area. Then he took you where you said you wanted to buy clothes and bags. Then Only you mentioned Pettah Floating Market (video @ 4.55). It's your fault, brother, for not clearly mentioning the "Floating" part. You should be humble enough to accept your fault and remove this from your account. all the best from a Sri Lankan who personally love to watch your videos

Pettah market isn't one place. Even I have to pay like 120 these days to travel 600m from the junction to my residence. He didnt scam you as you didn't tell him the correct location. What you could have done is, just tekk him to go in a specific direction thstbthe map showed as the meter would only charge for the distance travelled. Imagine his face being spread around the worlf as a scammer while you use such headlines to draw views?

Pettah market is a big area and the Google pin just drops off a random point, he is your average tourist guide that overcharges you to take you around Colombo but the Pettah thing was not a scam as the location is not an exact point you could say as Pettah market as it has multiple entrances and covers a few kilometers.
I know that one of the previous bloggers or what not had a bad issue with a string hopper kottu place at armor street and it went viral and I had a role in making sure it went to the right authorities and swift action was taken. It however worried me because since such incidents go viral, what if other bloggers use it as a way just to paint people as scammers so their videos go viral given that issues like this persist in countries it’s already a hot topic.
