This is a remake. The original was by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and led by the late great Teddy Pendergrass. Teddy was one of the best, most soulful voices to ever lay down a track. Periodt!
I agree, Linzi! He's the real deal live. He's got the pipes, without any mechanical help to hit and hold the notes while putting plenty of color into his vocals. So many vocalists that became hits in the 80's turn out to be disappointments live. They resort to auto tune a lot, or they end up sounded winded and unable to hold a not long, and definitely incapable of hitting those high notes on the recording.
Simply Red are a British soul and pop band formed in Manchester in 1985. The lead vocalist of the band is singer and songwriter Mick Hucknall, who, by the time the band initially disbanded in 2010, was the only original member left. Since the release of their debut studio album Picture Book (1985), they have had ten songs reach top 10 in the UK Singles Chart, including "Holding Back the Years" and "If You Don't Know Me by Now", both of which reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. They have had five number one albums in the UK, with their 1991 album, Stars, being one of the best-selling albums in UK chart history. At the 1992 and 1993 Brit Awards, they received the award for Best British Group. They received three Grammy Award nominations: for Best New Artist in 1987, and "Holding Back the Years" and "If You Don't Know Me by Now" for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. The band re-formed in 2015. Simply Red have sold over 50 million albums. Peace out.

This song was so popular in my childhood!! Love it!
My wife says the angels sing along when Mick Hucknall sings. Great song, great reaction.
I absolutely love Simply Red, and they did a great job with this song. It's originally by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.
The lead singer of Simply Red is Mick Hucknall has a wonderfully soulful voice. His red hair was the inspiration for the name of the group.
More from them....
"Your Eyes" (pay attention to the video as it tells a good story)

"Enough"
"Maybe, Someday"
"Infedelity"
"Sunrise" (samples a great Hall & Oates song)
"Something Got Me Started"
"Stars"
"It's Only Love"

LMmcxcallL.57. I always thought that it was because they were ardent Man. United supporters!
Another great Simply Red song is "Money's Too Tight To Mention".
Wow, Jay especially looked like he was seriously digging the melody there. It's a fantastic song.
Never Never Love by Simply Red. Mesmerizing voice…always.
Beautiful song 🎶 Beautiful singer 🎵
Simply Red, such a good band, my favourite song is Do The Right Thing ❤️
This is one of the few covers that I prefer over the original.
Song “For your babies” is beautiful - especially the live version from Simply Red in Havana
They have such a unique sound.
"Talk it over" by Grayson Hugh. 80s blue-eyed soul.
Wow it's like you guys dove into my playlist today. Great choice for Simply Red. Mick Hucknall is considered "blue eyed soul", like Daryl Hall, so definitely r&b. Check out "it's only love" , "money's too tight to mention", and "sunrise" from them.
Don’t sleep on Simply Red ❤ Stars should be your next one.
So much feeling in that song, it hits the heart !
Hi guys ! Thanks for playing this great r&b classic originally sung by teddy pendergrass who sang lead for harold Melvin and the bluenotes.Simply red is one of my moms favorite bands..Love you guys thank you and have a great day!
I normally hate remakes but Love this version. Micks voice is insane!
Anything that is a live performance by this band would be nice
They are unreal live! It’s amazing
Last thursday I saw them in concert in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. His voice is still amazing. This was their last song of the show. You should also react to Stars, Sunrise, I't's only love, You made me feel brand new.
I'm guessing a ton of people have told you this is a cover, and you should do the original now, too. By Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes. (I think that's the original. LOTS of people have covered this song. It's a classic)
Mick is everything
