Bought one of these from you guys about a year ago. Finally went to make a model today, and clogged. First video to come up was this one. Many a burn later, its no longer clogged! :D
Thank you so much for this video! I recently recieved my first revell contacta professional, and I didn't know why there wasn't any glue coming out, I wached this video, and now I can use it! Thanks a million Hearn!
Great advice thank you. I just bought some of this stuff and it wasn't coming out of the needle tip. A quick bit of heat on the gas hob and its flowing nicely!
Never had the place to buy Revell glue but the old liquid Testors glue had the same idea and it came with a thin looped wire to keep in the dispenser tube, I use a guitar string as a replacement. The second generation Testors liquid glue bottle has a spiral baffle deep inside so a straight wire will not always unclog it. I had to cut my bottle open and mixed it with Tamiya orange cap glue and that works well.
G'day BJ, Yes, I've had this problem with Contacta. Thanks for the tip. I used to be a medic and I discovered that you can put a finer gauge needle into the Contacta bottle top for really fine applications of glue that don't 'blob' out as much glue when it is first applied. As medical syringe needles are designed to pierce the skin, the ends are cut on the bias. This actually assists in using this glue on very fine parts and makes the glue in the bottle go even further. Most big pharmacies and medical supply houses sell a huge range of hypodermic needle sizes. You just have to remove the plastic fitment from the needle so it will slip into the Contacta bottle top. If the needle is too thin and slips through the Contacta top just use some PE or ‘super’ glue. If you use this glue a lot you can collect a range of yellow bottle tops with various size needles and have them handy to use on builds that suit smaller needle applicators. NB: Safety Warning: Be very careful when using bias cut hypodermic needles because they will still puncture the skin and can even pop through really thin sections of plastic. This has worked for me for a long time and it’s really saved me money over the years. I hope this is a help to some of your customers out there. Cheers, BH
@@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne You dont need fire to clean the needle of the contacta bottle. Just use a whisker from a cat. Its fine and stable enough, you can push it right through the needle. Doin it for years ;) But..... its not a one way product. You cant through the cat away after getting the whisker^^
Thanks for the tip! I'll try it next time I'm building something. I have a couple of these that are clogged and have been anoyed on that I can't use that glue.

out of 3 different content creators only one kept the needle in the bottle like an idiot... Good work mate on showing relatively safe way on how to do this.
I'll be damned. I was just assuming it was working since I couldn't see the glue on the white paper, but it sure did clear out my nozzle. Here's a comment for the algorythm.
Is this glue waterproof? I just build a submarine model and my little cousin is asking me if he can play with it in the bathtub. Can someone help me out?
Glue on clear parts is painful but not the end of the world. The glue is a solvent so it will permanently mark the surface. The glue mark can be sanded off and then polished back to a clear, glossy finish. Great vid! I just happen to have a question I have a few old brushes and I was wanting to restore them at the moment I cleaned them with airbrush cleaner but how do I get it back into a point
I see.. you have to replace it; there was a tool you can buy for that however we are not sure it is still for sale. Realistically replacing the needle is the best option to guarantee the end result
Do you mean paint brushes? There are brush restorer liquids such as Tamiya brush conditioner and Vallejo brush restorer. These liquids help the brush bristles stay in their correct shape. If the bristles have heavily fanned then you can attempt to apply the conditioning liquids a few times until the bristles are trained back into a point. If the brushes fail to go back to a point then keep them for weathering and get new brushes for precision work. Cheers!
Drying time depends on the amount applied, joint surface area and atmospheric conditions. In general expect a bond within a few minutes. Full cure from an hour.
@@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne Turns out the 4th time was the charm though, or I simply wasn't doing it right, I did it again and really kept it under the flame for probably longer than I needed to and it made this sort of odd noise afterwards but once it cooled down I put it back in and it worked.
There is something wrong if you need to burn the tip each time as it takes hours for the glue to cure in the tip. I remember the Testors version in the round bottle. Why promote this? Because it is helpful and avoids waste.
@@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne Testors was not in a round bottle. And I can no longer use the glue. I have been doing this off and on for 50 years and this stuff is a waste of money. Burn an accelerant. Does it say you have to do that on the bottle?

Just turn the needle around and the fumes in the bottle will melt the plug? I don't think anyone has the time to wait for that to happen. Also, wire cannot fix every blockage. This method works 100% of the time.

If I use it for paper models will the color wash of the model?
This cement is not suitable for paper models.
