    It’s worth noting the time variable as well. You’re not chucking all this down at once. It gets spread out over the months of your build and in stages. So take your paycheck (or allowance for some viewers) and buy filament. Next the sandpaper as you start to dial in prints, then paint etc, etc.

    Also have to look at what you can afford pilment wise, but please don't go cheap. Also check those 3d models in mesh mixer sometimes there is errors that will cause your printing issue. I bought a model and payed $10 for it just to find it wouldn't print, some models will just not print for the life of you. An no ender 3s stay way pay a little more I'd get the ender 5 pro as my first printer. Mine was my second printer and it's outlasted my 5 other printers I have owned.

The Chiron didn’t work out of the box and I’m still waiting for the parts to make it work. The super racer is going strong but now my Voxelab is down. It’s the most expensive and aggravating hobby ever. But once I get a successful helmet finished I’ll give it a shot.

    I am waiting on my Fookos machine to get here on Friday. I am doing Dr. Fate first. Then I got this dope War Machine file that has this huge gun mounted on the back and on both shoulders. I will definitely be looking more at your vids to get tips on THAT project for sure! I purchased Armor Smith and have been toying with it to get comfortable in scaling. It doesn't seem TOO complex. It is rather intuitive. Properly placing supports is something I know I will have issue with. I have yet to start, and it is giving me anxiety. I dropped TONS on filament though. That is why I went with the Fookos. The Sovol sv03 will be my next upgrade most likely.

    That's a really nice and comprehensible breakdown! I've been meaning to do a video sort of like this but more directed to ppl who want to start in 3D printing altogether (directed to cosplayers)
    There's just one "minor" item you forgot to mention: electricity, we also need to weight in the electric bill

    • @FranklyBuilt
      @FranklyBuilt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So. Honestly electricity isn’t really relevant. That’s like also trying to calculate how much water you’ll drink why working in the project. Depending on your printer, area you live in, print time, and much more, that number will vary way to much to even attempt to calculate

    • @Lusanagi
      @Lusanagi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FranklyBuilt granted: you can't quantify the electric bill because of the different price in every area, but you internally need to weight it in, and even more so when the prices in some places are ludicrous (I live in Mexico and although it's not as bad as Spain for example, we do get steep prices based on the consumption)

    you *totally can* print suits in PLA, but they tend to warp and melt in any kind of sun or a warm room, etc. etc. If I wanted to print something that lasts for a long while, I would print in ABS. it's a bit more difficult in that you need to enclose your printer (abs doesn't like breezes and a consistent chamber temp is paramount to avoid warping) but the results are WAY more durable (abs is what they make lego out of), and ABS filament is maybe $5 more per kg and prints great in most machines (so long as you enclose them, a taped together cardboard box is perfectly fine).

    • @FranklyBuilt
      @FranklyBuilt  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to disagree lol my suit is PLA and it’s been fine. If a print warps in a warm room there’s a problem.

    After watching this, I have decided to 3D print some things and use foam for other where it is more practical. My printer is a 220x220mm so it is not suitable to print an adult sized helmet in one piece. And I had already cut the pieces and shaped them using foam, I just have not glued them together. Seeing as the finishing time and steps are essentially the same for whatever material is used, I feel better knowing I can complete some of these items a lot faster using foam and the end results are excellent either way.

    while you don't "need" to know how to 3D- model, I would highly suggest learning some basics of resizing, shaping, and thickening to make things 3D-Printable. Too many 3d models exist, that can't actually be printed due to ZeroThickness walls, extremely small bits (hairs, whiskers) not properly set up/positioned, or just flat out floating parts that would need to defy gravity in reality. I 3D print as a fun thing to do on the side, plan to do 'full suit' style someday when I learn more, and I can tell you - learning just a few basic 3d modeling tricks helps tremendously, especially if it's a simple customization like combing parts or making a cut out.

      @@jacobriegel6116a feasible could either use very light (yet strong) materials, and/or have motors such that it'd work like an exoskeleton - so you wouldn't be carrying it - you'd just be enclosed by it, and motors would move the various parts.

    What if i have a 230x230mm print volume? Or will that be too small? Or is there models for armor out there for smaller build volumes?

    • @nickmoros1507
      @nickmoros1507 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      like he said in the video, its not too small youll just have to cut up the armor files into pieces to fit on your printer. I believe he has videos on how to cut up parts for smaller printers. "How To Fit ANY 3D Model on ANY 3D Printer! - A Cutting and Slicing Tutorial"

    Hey frank . Ever since I broke my thermistor when changing my nozzle on my ender 5p. It hasn’t been leveling the same . If I adjust the level while it’s printing like how I do my ender 3 pro. Would the adjustments be saved or will it reset every new print ? Thanks in advanced 🙏🏼

    Great job on these costumes and suits, I have a question. When wearing these suits for an extended period of time, are you able to sit down in the suit or do you have to remove part of the lower suit to sit. I’m only asking because, i’m considering building an Iron Man suit to wear for charity events, but I’m an old man.😀 Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

    I got an Ender 3 not too long ago, and now I want to build a clone trooper armour, I guess it won't be easy since an Ender 3 is maybe too small for armours, but a year ago I didn't think you could just print an Iron man suit, and after seeing what you can do, I'll try :)

      You could always buy an Ender Extender kit. They basically just replace some of the existing frame of the printer and drastically increase the print area while reusing all the original electronics and much of the original frame. They're also much cheaper than buying a whole new printer of that size. I'm planning on getting one of their kits for my Ender 3 at some point. Once I have it, I'll be able to print entire helmets in one piece.

    I’m torn between an Ender 5 Plus or a CR-10 Pro V2. The bed for the Ender is *slightly* smaller but negligible. Would that size difference be an issue for printing something like this Iron Man?

    Great video, I'm looking forward to the next one!
    I've been following your channel for a while now and finally I'm giving an Iron Man helmet a go (though I'm starting off just doing a free one, with the moving face plate) and I'm surely going to go back to your videos for each new stage!
    I do have one question though, and it might be a bit hard for you to answer with your dedicated work space, but painting... Is there any way to do it indoors without it getting everywhere and stinking up the place? I live in an apartment in Sweden and usually spray paint on my balcony but that isn't a good option. Wintertime is worse!
    Also, do you know Grant at 3d Musketeers? He's doing a podcast/youtube live stream called Making Awesome where he talks to people who... make awesome. As you do. I think it'd be really interesting to see/listen to your story and Grant is a great interviewer
