Frank this was by far one of the best walk through and inspiring videos on the hobby. Once I’m done diving done the Rabbit hole on my R2D2 build, Ironman is next. Thanks for the great inspiration, have a great one 👍🏽
Your channel and advise actually was the push I needed to try out this hobby. Yours and other's advice has been invaluable for getting started. Thank you for all these tutorials and advice!
It’s worth noting the time variable as well. You’re not chucking all this down at once. It gets spread out over the months of your build and in stages. So take your paycheck (or allowance for some viewers) and buy filament. Next the sandpaper as you start to dial in prints, then paint etc, etc.
Excellent video, Frank! Really hit all the key points and prices. Wish I had something like this to reference before I started my Hall of Armor. Like you said, trial and error. Well done, sir! 🙌
Been youtube educating myself to buy my first 3d printer. Never imagined the 3d printing rabbit hole would lead me here. 😀 Your videos are so very useful and you've really opened my eyes to what the possibilities are. thank you.
Sidewinder x2 has great reviews too. You can also start with an Ender 3 and later when you are comfortable with the prints upgrade with an Ender extender kit.
Also have to look at what you can afford pilment wise, but please don't go cheap. Also check those 3d models in mesh mixer sometimes there is errors that will cause your printing issue. I bought a model and payed $10 for it just to find it wouldn't print, some models will just not print for the life of you. An no ender 3s stay way pay a little more I'd get the ender 5 pro as my first printer. Mine was my second printer and it's outlasted my 5 other printers I have owned.
Hey frank. It's the wood works guy. I printed the thingiverse suit. That is the one I was telling you about on the discord. It should be mostly ready in a week and a half. I send you pics. Did it on an ender 3 😁. Yessir.
Thanks for all the tips. Im currently printing a 12ft project and the help goes a long way. I just put in a bulk order of sunlu PLA+. Modded S5 owner here. I love the hate. Sure it's not the best but very cool. I thought I needed the biggest printer when getting into all this which amongst all the confusion lead me to the S5.
I got a Voxelab for Christmas and got hooked immediately. I immediately bought an Flsun Super Racer,l and an Anycubic Chiron. The Chiron didn’t work out of the box and I’m still waiting for the parts to make it work. The super racer is going strong but now my Voxelab is down. It’s the most expensive and aggravating hobby ever. But once I get a successful helmet finished I’ll give it a shot.
like he said in the video, its not too small youll just have to cut up the armor files into pieces to fit on your printer. I believe he has videos on how to cut up parts for smaller printers. "How To Fit ANY 3D Model on ANY 3D Printer! - A Cutting and Slicing Tutorial"
A great video. However i think you should have added in time. Time to print, sand, paint, wire, and just overall build. Because some people will walk away from this video thinking a suit is worth roughly $1,300 without thinking about labor costs
Good point. So, can you give an estimate of the time budget, both in terms of printing hours, and also start no finish time in weeks or months? (Obviously, this would have to be a very rough estimate with so many variables involved …)
Well I talked about time and labour a little. This is physical material cost and I think that’s obvious enough. No one is going to think it happens overnight and these were low base lines
Bought a Creality CR10S Pro V2 because of your channel. Just got it this week and printing the Power Orb right now. My main goal is to put a War Machine suit together. Haven't decided which version yet. This pricing vid is right on time because I've been from Do3D to Etsy looking at files and wanted to know what a fair price was. Your channel has given me the motivation and info I need thank you!
Hello from the future! DO3D code still works, also Gemini is still free. Going with the Mk 33 Silver Centurion for my future suit. Thanks for being such an huge help and inspiration!
Thank you for the advice. I'm following your tutorials I'm printing a suit because I do charity events for a local hospital where I reside and I want to move up from foam
One thing to consider.. For individuals not looking to buy a 3D printer right a way, the net work of brand clothing and accessories You-tubers can offer, make me question if many channels offer to custom build orders, of customers who'd pay for it ("it" being a suit), like car enthusiasts do.
I am waiting on my Fookos machine to get here on Friday. I am doing Dr. Fate first. Then I got this dope War Machine file that has this huge gun mounted on the back and on both shoulders. I will definitely be looking more at your vids to get tips on THAT project for sure! I purchased Armor Smith and have been toying with it to get comfortable in scaling. It doesn't seem TOO complex. It is rather intuitive. Properly placing supports is something I know I will have issue with. I have yet to start, and it is giving me anxiety. I dropped TONS on filament though. That is why I went with the Fookos. The Sovol sv03 will be my next upgrade most likely.
you *totally can* print suits in PLA, but they tend to warp and melt in any kind of sun or a warm room, etc. etc. If I wanted to print something that lasts for a long while, I would print in ABS. it's a bit more difficult in that you need to enclose your printer (abs doesn't like breezes and a consistent chamber temp is paramount to avoid warping) but the results are WAY more durable (abs is what they make lego out of), and ABS filament is maybe $5 more per kg and prints great in most machines (so long as you enclose them, a taped together cardboard box is perfectly fine).
Oh yea Im doing this! After my current project. Just saw that Anycubic Kobra 2 Max with the 420x420x500 @ $520, and has good reviews. I have Flashforge 5M Pro and Bambu Labs P1P but the arent big enough. For me, I estimate this will cost in the range of $1800-2000. Worth it.
I've wanted to make the iron man mk 46for a long time, and about a year ago I bought the files from died and then a month later they released the premium gauntlet for that mark. They haven't released the rest of the armor, and it's been almost 9 months. I'm really hoping they release it soon. They keep promising they will release it soon but they haven't. So fingers crossed! Also this is a great tutorial, when they finally release the files your videos are going to help me so much, so thanks!
while you don't "need" to know how to 3D- model, I would highly suggest learning some basics of resizing, shaping, and thickening to make things 3D-Printable. Too many 3d models exist, that can't actually be printed due to ZeroThickness walls, extremely small bits (hairs, whiskers) not properly set up/positioned, or just flat out floating parts that would need to defy gravity in reality. I 3D print as a fun thing to do on the side, plan to do 'full suit' style someday when I learn more, and I can tell you - learning just a few basic 3d modeling tricks helps tremendously, especially if it's a simple customization like combing parts or making a cut out.
If I make one of these I'm gonna make it without sanding it or painting it. I just think that a non painted non sanded suit could potentially look really cool.
