Bob, this is the first time I have completed a project before you! I was so excited to see you do this and even more pleased that you and I had literally the exact same process - right down to making a custom helmet at the same time for your son (in my case, my daughter, who requested a pink and purple one with unicorns and hearts). I chalk the similarity in our processes up to how much I have watched you on your channel over the past couple of years and what I have learned from you. Keep up the great work!

The slicer makes it so simple to cut the big pieces & then glue them back together for a perfect fit. You can use hairspray applied with a sponge as a chipping mask. I use this technique in model building. After the paint is dry just use a stiff brush ( old toothbrush) or even a piece of masking tape to remove the hairspray and chips will be left behind in whatever your base coat was.
It can even be done in layers to have various colors etc. It’s really pretty simple.
ILM used the same technique with their props and models.

Great job! I like that you took the time to really flush out the weathering details. Using the liqid mask is pretty easy but still a bit of a pain if you have a bunch of ragged detail to add. I've had great success using just a spray mist of water and sprinkling a mix of rock salt and smaller grained Kosher salt over the areas I want to mask and letting it dry. You can remove some if you want less, or add another layer if you want more. Spray paint as usual, dry, and just rub it off with a soft cloth. It gives good results, ( after playing with it a few times ) and is much more random in details ( my opinion). Great channel and love the content!

That's so cool :) I know the helmets are supposed to be a weathered mat finish, but a clear coat would really lift those colours up.

I'm doing a lot of small prints (40%) of Mando helmets because I am new to the hobby. Videos like this really help educate me and break down the process, making it far less intimidating. Been doing some paint tests recently. While I don't have an airbrush (my tiny apartment doesn't have room for all my hobbies), some of the spray paints work fairly well. Hoping to put together my very own wearable helmet soon. Thanks for the video!
P.S.: I had no idea that the back of Boba's helmet was actually a different color!

A tip I've used to avoid holding JB weld glued parts until it sets is to leave a hole in the center of the applied epoxy and put drops of fast setting superglue in that spot just before placement. you can let go after about 15 seconds and the cryo cyanate holds it in place until the surrounding epoxy cooks. (-:

I know you love making stuff in general, but you always seem happier when it's something nerdy (and the bee stuff, it was pretty obvious you loved the bee stuff)
