    • @walterrldias
      @walterrldias ปีที่แล้ว

      not sanded at all does not work with FDM... you will see the print lines. This is why people sand the model... it looks crispy. sure you can prime the heck out of it and get rid of the lines, but it will look bulky and uneven. give it a try and you will see pretty quickly that sanding for 15 minutes makes a huge difference.

  • @thetechhobbyist3d9

    This series is really helpfull. My prints finish well but it takes me a lot of extra steps. You did a good job of ordering sanding, priming and bondo efficiently. I'm curious about your painting though. I was under the impression I was supposed to wet sand between coats. My prints definitely benefit from it. With your method you get the print perfect and super smooth, paint without sanding and you don't have any orange peel?

    I am currently working on a 3D print of the Master Sword from the Legend of Zelda. But I can't find a good blue/purple spray paint. Do you have any suggestions?

    Firstly, incredible! but im wondering, would it not have been more beneficial to do the acrylic black or any other cutting in work before you put the clear matte on the mask? or would this not work with the acrylic?

      Yes, I probably should have, but I just got ahead of myself. :P

    I'm completely new to working 3D printing props, and advice to brand new newbie? The first print I'm planning is for Raine Whispers of The Owl House, their violin. I know it's bit of a bigger build and I probably should start smaller, but there's nothing smaller I really plan right now, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!! (Also really want to have the red hood helmet, so if my first build goes well I'm doing that next!!)

    you should try learning car painting. the paint job you did would come out better with less orange peel, also if you use blue masking tape you don't have to worry about being sloppy. also the painting technique in auto paints is called "candy" which is a basecoat of gold, chrome, or more commonly silver metallic and a colored semi transparent of clear coat on top to show the base coat underneath, that's the candy part. car paints also have something called chameleon/ DNA which is a color shift technology. just remember to use organic rated cartridges for the respirator, and those do have an expiration so keep them inside ziplock bags

      Would love to learn how to paint on that scale. :)

    If I mess up, can I just sand again and try again or will I have to re print it

  • @stewartstewartstewart

    Great finish. However, your spraying technique could do with some refinement. Mainly this… spray past your work piece, stop, start then pass back over the work piece. If you change direction on the workpiece you’ll more likely to over spray at that turning point.
    Keep up the good work!

    Ment to ask this in the previous video. I let my primer/ filler dry for a day, sanded, and washed. When I wash is a lot of the primer comes off. How long should I let it dry before washing? Some what new to this but your videos are very informative

      @3DPrintedProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I let the filler dry a full 24 hours before sanding an washing. It should not come off at that point.

    How long before the matte top coat did you wait from the red being fully applied?

    • @3DPrintedProps
      @3DPrintedProps  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It says wait 24 hours, but it was very humid so I waited a couple days.

    What would you recommend for a Batman cowl I want black matte but I want a similar metal sheen to your red hood there

    • @3DPrintedProps
      @3DPrintedProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would test like a black car paint with some fleck in it and the use a matt spray to see how that looks. And or test a high gloss black with a matt spray. I've never tried that, would like to see how it looks.

    Hey boss I’m having problems sanding off a few runs of the red duplicolor paint, any bonus tips for getting rid of them?

    • @3DPrintedProps
      @3DPrintedProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just take it slow and work it down. Maybe use a courser grit to start, then go up to smooth it all out.

    Hey I was wondering if your doing multiple colors how long should I let one color dry before taping it off the apply a new color

    • @3DPrintedProps
      @3DPrintedProps  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would wait 24 hours. Maybe longer if u live in an area that's cold or has high humidity. I've screwed more than more project up taping to fast

    Hi. Question, is it absolutely necessary to clear coat? I have primed and sanded my pieces. But with the test spoons (thanks for the tip!), the clear coat turns my paint job yellow. Trying to find the best option of protecting my pieces but getting the look I want.

    • @3DPrintedProps
      @3DPrintedProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not at all. But know that if you don't put on a corrective coating the paint can scratch. I've had issue in the past too, the key thing is to test everything before putting it on your final print.

    I put a clear coat on a print of mine, and it dried white and had lots of cracks. How do I avoid/fix this?

  • @blainejeffries2440

    Is it okay if they are some bare spots from sanding the primer before painting? Or should I make sure there is primer in every nook and cranny?

    • @3DPrintedProps
      @3DPrintedProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would make sure its primed, but if there are little cracks and spots it should be ok, but if you can be sure its got a nice overall coat.

    Try using painters tape. Masking is always better and faster than free hand painting

    To fix runs for the Metal Cast Paint do you wait for it to cure? I have been doing super light coats 10 minutes apart and it still has some runs that I cant prevent.

    • @3DPrintedProps
      @3DPrintedProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, its just a really runny paint. Just keep you distance with the can make sure its dry and warm out and do super light coats.

    would the weather effect any of the painting process? gets cold here in Ontario

    • @3DPrintedProps
      @3DPrintedProps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Paints and clear coats have a temp range. I have a heck of a time here in NY. Its 10 degrees out right now and I have no place to paint.

      Sorry, its not something I've researched, but there should be something close. I wish I could get the spray putty you have there.
