I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this video frank. Having someone who I respect so much like yourself just go through and directly point out their own mistakes or issues and say “this isn’t perfect, I’m not happy with this”. Makes me feel like maybe I’m not insane after all

Especially with the 39 glove. I was having a meltdown recently over how scratched my stark gauntlet got from wearing it and just didn’t know what to do. Seeing your gloves in just a bad state and having someone argue it’s ok makes me feel a lot better

This video changed my perspective about 3d printing. I'm almost always frustrated with how my prints come out and everyone on the internet makes it look so easy. Thanks Frank for pointing out how even big creators have flaws. This will definitely push me to continue on my nerd journey.

So true!!! I had my Starboost Costume on for 9hours in Quebec! The skin between my legs were being ripped off, I was bleeding and it became blue. I couldn’t sit down or go to the bathroom. I was dehydrated and could feel my heart skip beats. My head being squeezed in pain for hours.

Firstly I gotta say thanks Frank, you pushed me to move my prop studio forward. Before I found your videos we were making everything like they did in the old days, and it was expensive. My smooth on rep freaked out when we made a major transition to 3D printing.
I think it’s good that you still have your armor, and considering how much you’ve used it I’d say it fared well. As for garbage, well you learned what you want to change and do different so they aren’t garbage just heavily loved.
Thanks for the video, loved it.

Thanks Frank. I feel like this on every one of my builds. There is always something (or multiple) wrong and I’m rarely satisfied with the end result. This has stopped me from moving forward with any type of enthusiasm with my suit. So many reprints!!! Sizing issues! I have three Mjolnir’s because of imperfections! Got sick of printing it over and over again, so I just stopped and moved on to something else. Good to know I’m not alone. Thanks for being real ❤U3K

yea, i've started on making the suit (the one from Nicco Industries) and the forearm had a TINY wrist and I would have had to scale it up to 130% to fit my (big) hands into it. So I cut it back. (it was too long anyway... wish me luck :-) I appreciate all your videos and tutorials.

Why don'T you print the finger connectors in 2 layer 98A tpu? it will hold forever, it will not stretch and you can make it the perfect form. I noticed this when a print failed after 2 layers and I couldn't destroy it with my hand .. crazy strong and flexible. That would be perfect for it. Since it is 98A it would allow fingerbending, be thin and have no noticable stretch in the length. I used DasFilament TPU, but I am sure that there are others with the same funktion.

if i remember correctly emily the engineer was going to try rubber casting some of the parts for the mkII armour, maybe that would be more comfortable for some of the parts fro you? maybe you could rubber/silicone cast with carbon fiber or glass fiber strips as boning, so you keep the "support" but its much thinner?

  • @GMLioko
    @GMLioko 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

These gripes give me some ideas... I wonder how cheaply (if "cheap" is even possible) some 3D scans of various states of body flex could be obtained. They could serve as a visual framework for designing and mapping armor segments to a given body for the purpose of said wearer's comfort. Then one could engineer flex points and sliding movement pieces with plate segments (using principles of compliant one-piece geometry to level-out or spread out movement and wear) so it allows the pieces to last longer and maximize said comfort. I imagine a lot more materials would need to be utilized to make this a reality, but it could work quite well, in theory.

i recommend that anyone interested in making ironman suits also look at real historical 15th-16th century armor. Proper and functioning knee, elbow, wrist, and neck articulation was perfected 500 years ago. I'm sure those lessons can be incorporated into an ironman suit to some degree. Henry VIII's foot combat armor might be a good starting point for those unfamiliar.

Certainly there will always be changes made, just because you learn as you go. I would probably trash my first suit, because I know it would not turn out good at all. But some ideas came to mind as you were showing the problem pieces... first, do you use a clear coat with hardener in it? I would think that would stave off any scratching happening, and if it started to wear down the clear coat, you could always do some spot spraying to fix it. That is if you can even use it. My thoughts on using the hardener would be the fumes you would inhale while wearing the helmet,/mask,. I'm just tossing out ideas.
I've seen some suits, (not iron man) where the fingers were joined with something other than elastic bands. I would say it was some sort of plastic with very flexible properties, that possibly would not allow the figure to be wonky, and hang out of place.
The dreaded groin pains. I would think that could be avoided with a cup... but then the problem arises with bathroom breaks... (do you ever get into that situation where you feel you just wanna die from not being able to go while in the suit?) The cup would be the best in keeping everybody in place, and no clanking allowed.
I wondered about size as weil. Not that I intend to make a suit for me, but I have thought about making one as a costume for my grandson. I didn't know if there were ways to scale the suit quickly ( and I would not be 3D printing mine, I would be physically building one out of whatever material i could come up with.) The idea of even building an Iron Man suit intrigues me, but it is also a daunting task I think. That's why I watch your channel, so i can maybe ease my mind about building one. If I could ever buy a 3D printer, it would make the job much easier.
Oh, and you need to stop the coffee at 6pm if you are that hyper at midnight! LOL

Get a 3d printer. You will feel like Tony Stark of you like to build ,create things. Get blender (software). You will become Tony Stark. I 3d print everything. My wife's makeup is in custom makeup holders that she designed in imagination and I designed in blender. My home office is organized with 3d printed shelves and drawers. My kids toys are organized because of custom designed 3d printed shelves and drawers. My vacuums use custom designed attachments. my spice jars rest in custom designed spiceracks. My helmets line my walls and doors on my own helmet hanger designs. And oh man, so many of my helmets and armors are all so uniquely designed, because you can do literally anything with blender. Change this that, add lights and channels for wiring, easily adjust size and scale, whatever. Whatever you can think of, you can print , basically. I have taken many models of toys and things for my children and just hollowed out a section and added a battery compartment with a software app, pre-print, so I can light it up with 45¢ of electrical parts.
      3d print. Do it! Lol

Hi Frank, I'm writing to you from Italy, so if my English is not the best I apologize. Your videos are always beautiful and well done, and thanks to you I became passionate about the world of cosplay, and, I also fell in love with the mk85 armor. Precisely for this reason I wanted to ask you if you could redo a tutorial on the new walsh 3d helmet. More specifically in helmet electronics, I had problems connecting the chin servo motor with the rest of the helmet through the magnets and if I'm not mistaken some time ago you said you were preparing a new tutorial. Thank you for everything and keep it up

9:06 so you talk about how loosing paint on these parts is just the natural way of things. At what point do you just say enough is enough and try to restore the paint / just call it a shelf piece?

Can you tell me what shoe lifters you use? All the ones I find online get bad reviews for being uncomfortable.

I learnt that I have short thighs when I loaned my intentionally crappy Thor costume to my nephew who is about my height. Was wondering why the costume fitted so weirdly on him. While I have long upper torso and short thighs, he has shorter torso and longer thighs... damn, maybe thats why I'm slower walker than most of my 6' brethren
