- Join us for 2023 CARNIVAL in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! We went to Rio to see this famous celebration, immersing ourselves in blocos and samba-dancing the night away at the Sambadrome. We were swept away by the hurricane of Brazilian passion and found ourselves scrambling to keep up.

In the days leading up to Ash Wednesday, Rio transforms into a boundless festival with neighborhood block parties (blocos) around every corner. The highlight for us was definitely the Sambadrome Competition which truly lives up to its title as The Greatest Show On Earth.

The one in 2:53 its Diogo Nogueira, a great samba singer, and in 3:13 its his girlfriend and very famous actress here, made a lot of telenovelas and also "drum's queen" of Grande Rio, you probably saw her parade. They are couple goals here 😅 and in 03:20 i don't know the name of ter group bc it has a lot of these "roda de samba" around Rio, sometimes are just friends hanging out and playing
Ju está corretíssimo e a de 3:20 é uma roda de samba da Mangueira que se apresenta a cada 15 dias no Leme aos sábados, ao lado do bar e restaurante Leme Light. Sempre vou e é muito bom. E acontece o ano todo.

Legal que curtiram! Saibam que quando saímos do sambódromo de manhã, muito de nós, vamos direto para praia para renovar forças em um banho de mar, e só depois ir para casa, porque tem os blocos 🤣
Midnight is early for us haha. 11pm is usually the time people get ready to leave the house to party hahaha. And to answer the question about what floats have to do with samba. Each parade has a theme and tells a story. It's not random. The floats work as allegories within the theme and it all fits together; song, costumes, floats, choreography... The good thing about watching it on TV is that the commentators explain everything as it happens so it all makes sense. But obviously, it doesn't compare to seeing it live.

No, we were fortunate to leave before the storm hit Rio, our hearts go out to the people of Brazil affected by the storm
I really liked the video, but there are carnival parties in the northeast of the country, they are incredible and many are old-style parties, the bloquinhos, Salvador has axé etc, very good and in Pernambuco in the city of Recife there is the biggest block in the world, Galo da Madrugada, and in Olinda, the giant puppets of Olinda and the famous midnight man.
Go back to Brazil at the time of Festa Junina the feast of São João you will love this party is from the northeast of Brazil We have two famous states at that time João Pessoa and Pernambuco in the City of Caruaru Capital of São João city of our King of Baião Luiz Gonzaga.

Another thing about the samba parade you guys may have missed: since it's a competition as you two were watching the whole parade was being showed live in Brazilian television to the whole country (so y'all may even have been in some highlights when they show the audience in television, it's a possibility 😅).
Plus, it's a pity that you guys don't speak that much Portuguese because the songs they were singing for this entire hour (the song from each samba school) actually tells a story and since each school is having a concept to try to win, the song they're singing was telling the chosen story and concept, that's why they have "horses" and this kind of stuff, it all comes together = song and visual support each other as they earn points for that.
That's awesome thanks for sharing! Would have loved to know Portuguese for all the stories in the songs. We'll have to study for next time 😄
