    I don't have a problem with people who buy recasts. I DO have a problem with sellers who aren't upfront about it. Sellers should always make sure their customers know exactly what they're buying.

    I ended up with a recast doll, but I still love him to death. I mainly use him as a size reference when I'm making clothes for my other doll, but he keeps me company, especially while I sew.

    • @AsenvaBJD
      @AsenvaBJD  8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Kattriella Draws I am glad that you have love for him. Stuff happens sometimes and I would never expect anyone to like, throw a doll away. I understand people have their own thoughts and beliefs and I choose to respect them but if I am asked about my opinion on recasts I will share my thoughts, but again, respectfully.

    this literally just saved me from buying a recast on accident (from a site that had just a few too many limited addition molds in stock and hid their recast disclaimer at the very bottom buried in the faq) thanks so much asenva!!
    steer clear of sites selling you pipe dreams everybody.

    I think the important is, do you love her?? If so ,why matters if she's recast or not. I have a recast and i love her as much than my legit. I brought her in doll meet and no one can tell if she's legit or recast. She's good quality, smooth and sturdy.

    They jumped my friend for having one recast out of the 3 dolls she had. She had no clue it was a recast and needed 5 stitches afterwords. I also think the new doll I got might be a recast :/ I bought it second hand, I will still take pictures and stuff but I now need to research more.

    • @AsenvaBJD
      @AsenvaBJD  10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      WHAT?!?! Omg that is totally wrong...er I hope you are not hanging with those peeps anymore...that's dangerous and crazy that they would do that! >_< just make sure to always do your research whenever you buy dolls whether they are second hand or off a website. Hang in there!

      We aren't, and my friend has put up warning about it facebook. People have to be so careful, I do hope the doll is legit but I plan to get the doll off the original website anyway I want twins. So I will wait and see. Thank you for this video, it has helped.

    my mother, not knowing much about dolls, bought me a doll chateau Elizabeth spider off of ebay, so Christmas morning i opened it and was STUNNED, like holy hell they cost like four hundred something dollars, and so i mentioned this to my mother and she said she got it for $103, so i asked if i could see the listing and she was infact a recast, but since its from my mother and i adore her sculpt im very conflicted, all i know for sure is that i will always be sure to make sure my dolls from now on are legitimate

      I have her too. Ebay for 150. I have decided to keep her, because she is my baby, but I'm afraid to take her out and face the community's judgement.

      @Nopety Nope This logic is flawed though, because with out the market they would not recast. They keep making recasts because people keep buying them.

      Then quit with the hobby at all if that is so important. The concept of BJD dolls is invented in Germany about a century ago. Japan, Korea and China are the main manufacturers of BJD's. All of them are countries well known for their copies of western products. So every asian BJD is in fact a stolen German concept. If you want to be fair, be fair to the bottom of this case.
      This post is not ment as a hate or rant to you, but as an eye opener to you and others. That said, i never heard any legit company complain about recast, they even did not patented their products. So apparently they dont care. Then why would we care if they dont?

      HighPriestessIce What a miserable person you must be to not see the intent and love behind the action. The mother’s intent to make her happy makes the doll priceless to me. It was an accident. As if you’ve never made a mistake in your life.

    Thing that I want to advise people who are looking at Bjd's but can't find any that are around they're price range have a look at Bobobie dolls and Resin soul. Keep in mind you will need to restring them as soon as you get them as they are very loose.
    As Asenva said don't put yourself down if you accidentally purchase a recast. My first was a recast, I was told she was a legit and a 'new brand' but I wasn't knowledgeable about the dolls at that time. I now have a legit But I still love my recast just as much.

    its getting harder and harder to define the differences because as it turns out a lot of recasts are coming to be equal if not better quality than original casts. The biggest indicator is that theres almost always a height difference.

    AsenvaBJD Hi, the same thing that happened to that person happened to me! But i've wanted a bjd for 3 years now so i didn't put myself down! I love her very much put i made a promise i would only order from doa or from the official site. To anyone who thought they bought the real doll and realized it was the unofficial doll. After that, I've been cautious about the dolls I'm interested in. I have two other dolls now and each came with a real COA. Just remember, love your doll, It's not their fault :)

    I have a Dollfie Dream that I didn't know was a recast, but I just use her for my floating heads. I do plan on only keeping her frame once I buy parts from the Volks store and use the other parts to practice mods on. She looked legit, the exception being that she felt like she was made out of bricks. I am saving up for a dollfie dream select though

    noo don't get rid of her!!! i mean she's now apart of the family so if you love her regardless of her being a recast she's still worth keeping. ASENVA - a random video like you did with "what did i just watch" would be super fun. i still love that video.

    Very smart way of explaining it. I don't get mad or beat someone up over buying a recast by accident. (Not like I do that to other intentional recast owners, because that's just mean, but being anti-recast myself I don't treat buying a recast intentionally and by accident the same way.) I feel quite bad for those people and would try to help them see the positives to what they have now. This whole hobby is full of learning experiences. :)

    The worst that's happened to me in the hobby so far is I was posing my two boys one 60cm and the other 21 cm, I made it so my lager doll Casper holding the much smaller Lucius and I moved Casper a little and Lucius fell and his head cap fell off. He wasn't harmed only a small scratch you only can see when you put a flashlight really close too it, so I'm not too worried plus I see ever small scratch, dent, or chip make the doll more yours and more you.

    My biggest problem would be how to sell it, such a tricky situation! But, definitely, if it was an accident they should definitely not feel too much guilt about it. I admit though, I wouldn't be able to keep the doll, but obviously nobody has the right to look down on others for choosing to keep it, etc.

    I don't really know much about BJDs, but what's so bad about recasts?

    • @HighPriestessIce
      @HighPriestessIce 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Basically imagine you released an art book or a comic and someone bought one, photocopied it, and then began selling it. Of course it's vastly cheaper than yours because they didn't have to take the time to draw it, didn't have to buy the initial supplies, etc. You are no longer making money off your book, and you can't afford to make another. And people are angry at you, claiming you could sell just as cheap if you wanted to but your just greedy. That's basically the thing with recasts.
      Companies have closed down (HZ no longer makes dolls since their Roro was recast for example), some companies have pulled out of dealers (Dollshe) which is a loss since most dealers offer payment plans to make them more affordable, entire doll lines have been discontinued, Some will not sell outside of their home country, etc. It causes tremedous harm to the artists and companies, as well as the community. With out the artists we slowly lose the hobby. I was a huge fan of HZ before she bagan sculpting and I loved her dolls so I feel this loss personally. There is great distrust in the community especially towards the 2nd hand market. This is a circular hobby where many sell old dolls to afford new ones but many people are getting tricked by fakes. Innocent newbies get scammed into something they did not want to contribute to in the first place. It's happening more frequently.
      When I am talking BJD companies it's really not what you imagine by the word. Immortality of Soul is 2 sisters. They have a manager to help communicate or help with finances, and a couple people to pack and ship. I bought my ASYD head from Bora when she was just sculpting for fun on her own blog. Dollshe is just one man, his mother used to help him pack the boxes. Spiritdoll again another family that works out of their house. Many of these "companies" have less than 10 people, many less than 5. Many shop fronts in South Korea are run out of homes. Fairyland arguably the biggest is still just about 20 people. So you can see how easily impacted they can be. A lot of people forget these are still small niche artists and not huge coprorations like mattel. The have become dehumanized in a way. Which is at the heart of the issue I believe. I totally reccommend checking out company interviews ^^ mydollyadventures.blogspot.com/p/interviews-master-post.html#.V59hd6J1m-c
      They also forget how expensive they are to produce. More so for Korea and Japan who have a higher cost of living than somewhere like China. I cast resin for a livinng and it's extremely toxic to work with. They all need good safety equipment and health insurance/benefits. Things like resperator filters would need frequent replacing. Recasts are not produced in a professional manner. So it is doubtful the workers are adequately protected. Which makes me feel even less okay with recasts. I wouldn't want to bring physical harm over a toy. And that's what it comes down to in the end. Artists and workers alike have their livelyhood jeopardized in many ways due to recasts.
      Sorry for the essay. I am and artist myself so I'm rather passionate. I am also hoping maybe other people wondering why recasts are bad will learn something from this post too.

    • @jpsholland
      @jpsholland 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is nothing wrong with it. There is a lot of highly emotional talk about it, mainly by almost crying people who have no clue.
      This official way to talk about it is that a artist make some sculpt, some else copy it and cash to money while the and the original artist goes bankrupt.
      No the reality. First, NO BJD company had put a patent on their product which simply means there can not be any law suit about it. Patenting is an international agreement of the law and companies to say "hey, i dont want my product to be copied by anyone". A judge will ask the original artist if he or she had patented their product. If the answer is "no", the judge hit his hammer on the desk and say "case dismissed", end of story. This is done because otherwise everybody can claim everything to anyone without evidence, which cost a lot of time and money and the chance the law is used for committing a crime.
      Then there is a other fact. Most BJD companies are not that 2 or 3 woman who make doll to try to make a living. Far most of them are true factories with multiple employees. The artist often make just a average workers hour wage. Dolls are cast by the hundreds. This companies are not that poor artist at all.
      Then we hit the next fact. Most recast are popular dolls, not utterly expensive OOAK's (One Of A Kind) from solitaire doll makers. Expensive brands like Soom, Volks and Fairyland are popular to recast. This are far overpriced brands who not go for the art, but for the money. This are all true factories with many employees. Some over part of way bigger companies. They never sued any recaster. They did not put down any patent on their products. They simply dont care. Recasters aim to the people with the small wallet, the brands i mentioned here aim for the big spenders. So those who buy a recast cant afford the original anyway, so they actually dont have any financial damage to suffer. A thing they should have to proof in a lawsuit against a recaster.
      Then we have China. Most brands come from China. China is still officially a communist country. And in communist countries they dont talk "me", they talk "we". So in communist countries invention has to be for everyone. Hence, you can NOT patent your products. Which simple means that copy and sell that product is NOT illegal. If it is not illegal there, the law of the western countries can NOT make it illegal, because nobody is harmed, nobody needs protection. And that is what the law is for. Hence, recast all make it through customs. Certainly Chinese recast of Chinese dolls. This due to Chinese laws which has no place for patents because of the principals of the communist system. A lot, if not all, of the anti recast cryers have no clue about this.
      Then there is the fact that the most famous recasters do NOT pretend to be the original artist/manufacturer. They are clear about the fact it is a recast and they are way lower priced. Just a few minutes research on the internet and everybody can see.
      China, Japan and (south) Korea are all countries that build up their todays succes and economy with copying western products. So they simply cant be to loud on recasts.
      This whole discussion is done with near 100% emotion and very limited reason. Despite my question in the past on several fora, nobody showen my an actual lawsuit against a recaster. Again, there cant be a lawsuit if the original artist/manufacturer did not patented their products. Not in Asia, not in Russia, not in Europe, not in Australia and also not in the USA.
      If it real harmed the originals so badly as the recast haters tell you, then a BIG company like Dollzone/Doll Chateau (they are both from the same owner, a very large Chinese toy manufacturer which is a competitor with Mattel form the USA) would have launched a lawsuit against a big recaster like Steven/Luo. But this never happen.
      The Dutch have a centuries long history into international trading, way, way, way before the United States start to form. So they have also centuries of experience in contraband. The Dutch Port Rotterdam is in tonnage the biggest port of the world. A lot of international contraband pass through Port Rotterdam. The Dutch customs service have a lot of experience with it, and it is amazing what they catch in fake Nike shoes, Fake Nikon camera's and on and on and on. All on the way to other countries like Amerika, passing through Port Rotterdam. Nevertheless. So the Dutch customs know a lot. ALL recasts are send of the the buyers. If they are above a certain price, the receiver has to pay 21% of tax. That they send the dolls of simple means they are not illegal.
      This all means simply that the whole story about recasts is bullshit and wild stories sucked out of big thumb with a lot of emotion.
      Also in America recast are not illegal, since the original companies did not patented their products and because of the "China thing" where patents are not possible due the communist system. IF they are illegal in the USA, the it will be of political reasons, not because it harm anyone or broke law in the original countries. (think at the German cars which are awful expansive in America, just to protect their own car manufacturers...)
      In general: ignore this whole recast drama, if you see one and like the doll, and you wallet cant sustain a 500+ dollar doll, just go and buy it, because all the reasons of the "anti-club" are plain emotional bullshit.
      (please pardon the many spelling errors as english is not my third language, let alone my first, and i getting tired because it is late in the night when i write this)

    Hello~
    Can I ask a question about recasts um well I understand how to avoid them and buy original dolls from the companies, but my second dolly is indeed a mini fee recast and how would you (anti-recast people) tell me what to do with her now? The usual 2 answers I've gotten is "stay away form DoA" which I can easily do since I've never really used it that much and the other answer is (which kind of bugs me) "you can maybe sell it but don't be surprised if nobody buys it!" (the way it was said to me is what upset me) Well yes that's all fair and well but what if I don't want to sell her, ok I know she is a work of "art theft." but she was a gift and even if she wasn't she is still mine. I've grown as attached to her just as much as my legit dollzone. This may sound so selfish and I understand now the idea of supporting the official art dolls. (I did not intentionally choose to buy a recast)
    I know I stupidly didn't do enough research but legit or not can't I embrace my doll since I can't change the past.
    note. I am keeping her but I'm just eager to here some responses, I hope all are civil.
    Asenvabjd great video!

      +Jojiaaa (Reo) Think about it. There are adults, children, doll admirers all over the world, whom would just go crazy with joy, and excitement owning a recast doll. They wouldn't even give thought to recast or legit. Do you know that in many parts of the world, children get excited over a single sticker on the hand. So, IMO, be very appreciative of the things you have, no matter what other people think, or pass judgement thereof. Life is short, and life is more than the things we possess.

      I have chosen to keep my recast doll chateau Elizabeth, as I didn't go looking for her as a recast, I just stupidly assumed that someone was leaving the hobby and trying to dump their dolls. I love her to death, but I am ashamed to take her to meets and conventions. Only one friend has seen her, and she also loves her.

    • @HighPriestessIce
      @HighPriestessIce 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep her, the deed is done. Just follow the rules of the bjd spaces you interract with. If they do not permit recasts leave her out. Many of us actually prefer that you don't release the doll back into the market so that someone else can't be fooled by the next person that sells it. All that matters is you want to support the artists in your future purchases. You'll be fine ^^

    Can you buy dolls off eBay?

    • @someanon1984
      @someanon1984 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +lps dachshundtv You can, but from what I've heard, dolls of ebay are typically recasts. If that's what you want, then okay, but you still might want to do your research on the quality of their products. If you don't want a recast, buy from either the company or a well known seller. I think that Den of Angels has a list of known recast dolls if you really want to avoid them.

    • @natcat1105
      @natcat1105 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +lps dachshundtv If you choose to look on ebay check in the used BDJ area. Also if your wanting to find legit dolls, check to see if they come with a COA. I'd be careful of anyone who says the doll is legit but has no COA. I'm still learning myself, but am quickly picking up some of the savvy :)

    • @thesecretroman
      @thesecretroman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bailee's Beauty Corner Yeah but I would avoid unless you were buying second hand. If they say they are new they are usually recasts. Unless you wanted a recast of course haha

    I actually quit the hobby, mostly "thanks" to the sort of people who first ask me "what's your opinion about recasts?" And if I answer "I don't have any opinion. Those always yell "You're PRO RECAST!" which wasn't the case, I didn't know much about that, so I didn't have an opinion, that's all.
    All my dolls are legit though.
    And what IS my opinion now when I know more? Well my money, my choices, your money your choices. I wouldn't buy a recast, but if someone else does, that's none of my business.
    About sellers though:
    If you're about to sell something, whatever it is, you need to be careful not to scam the customer, therefore be honest about what your customer is getting.
    If you sell a recast, you should tell people that you're selling a recast, plus lower the prize on it, since recasts do have a lower value than "real deals" so to say. The rest is up to the customer, if they know they will get a recast and still buy it, that's not your problem.

    • @AsenvaBJD
      @AsenvaBJD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Lenny for watching! I am so sorry you left :( Yeah this is a touchy subject among collectors for sure. I know that I don't really preach my stance from rooftops but I would never be rude or ugly to anyone based off their thoughts on recasts. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts too

    I advise letting law enforcement know about the recaster that you bought this from. Yes, you should have done more research, but the seller intentionally lied to you. Recasting is illegal, and so is fraud. I know this is a little harsh, and you may lose your doll, but it's our responsibility to the original artists of these dolls.
