If you're unaware of what's going on in the BJD hobby right now, here's a little video summary for you.

Someday I am going to make a bjd. I've only been putting it off for freaking 20 years....
But my idea was to sculpt hands with the middle finger to flip off the recaster as they steal my doll . 🤣... 😑

Is Latidoll going to be okay?, they are my favorite.. :( my first bjd was a lati yellow Benny! I saved up over $200 from my allowance and it was the happiest day. 🥰 im a constantly broke person so it hurts not to be able to by another from them since 2010 ... bjds are my absolute dream.
When I was a teen I saw a lati doll for $40! I couldn't believe my eyes ! I was so happy! (I was very ignorant and did not have any idea what a recast was) so I bought a few and I think it was "lou".... I wondered why the box was different...
My heart sank when I found out it was too good to be true.
I think I remember his/her shop being very simple... nothing special.
But I see now its all fancy it looks like a legitimate store ..
After seeing this video I feel sick.
It's one thing to recast and offbrand a stolen artwork. But to not stop there, he/she needs to steal the company itself!????? Why!?? That's stealing their fking soul and life! .

I have no idea if the BJD hobby will ever be the same, but I highly doubt it. Years after this video was first posted and we can see big changes within the hobby; the second hand market is completely whack and/or dead, nobody trusts anyone, people come together to buy a single artist doll and then send it off to Lou to get recasted and in return they all get one recast doll each. It's sick.
I personally am about to step out of the hobby and I'm sorry to say that it has pretty much been ruined for me.

Scary. Seeing all this recast make me demotivated to finish making my doll which been going on for almost 2 years in work in progress.
Yes, I totally understand what you mean. It demotivated me, somewhat, to continue working with Kostja, too. But I don't think it should stop us from creating things. It's only a matter of how we then share our creations with the world. How about simply casting a couple of dolls for oneself? :)

It has just taken me almost 2 years to save up to buy 2 dolls. A long hard struggle as I'm on a fixed income. I had to retire early from Nursing. Yes I had a chance of buying recasts, only, as a Traditional artist, who loves watercolours and oils, it never entered my head to purchase what amounts to stolen patterns. To steal an artists work is the lowest, nastiness thing you can do.
I can understand your frustration, your heartbreak, at what is happening inside the factories in China. I only hope that this terrible man will not not prevail, and that somehow, he is stopped from what he is doing.
In Britain 99% of working artists, as they complete, Copyright their work, be it on canvas, paper, a sculpture, or on digital etc etc. This helps stop this kind of thing from happening.
I pray that a quick solution occurs soon, and somehow, this evil monster of a man is stopped before he causes much more damage.

Well said! I think many people who purchase recasts think many of these companies are huge, but they really are not. People who purchase recasts makes arguments that recasts were around for long time, and that all the dolls are a form of a recast, and that it doesn’t effect companies directly.. but these artists (who mostly likely operate in their company) have created these dolls and to sell... which definitely gives them right to do so!! Fundamental of Recasts or counterfeits are wrong from the beginning, because it wasn’t theirs to begin with! I just don’t understand how people can be so blinded..
Thank you! And yes, the recast thing can be seen from various angles, but in the end it all leads to the same thing: this. And it's terrible, because the hobby isn't that big - which makes it kind of vulnerable.
mitchy Bitchy yes, dolls can be very expensive, no one needs to buy $800 doll, however, you don’t need to buy counterfeit for less either.. there are many companies that makes dolls for way less..
mitchy Bitchy Soom Dia is a gorgeous boy, maybe you can buy the head first, and go with less expensive body. It is a slow process, but wouldn’t that be worth it? Most of times, people go out there ways to bring home the doll they want. I understand everyone can’t be on same page, and there always will be other sides to everything. All I want is for people who support recasts to realize that buying a recast isn’t right thing, right now there is only one person who is trying to get trademarks on all these companies, but who’s to say there won’t be 2nd or 3rd.. to try this..
mitchy Bitchy yes, I think hate won’t solve anything. I’ve seen both sides, people using strong words to one another, literally creating unnecessary drama. There are lot more positivity in this hobby, and I think people should come together to have healthy conversations. Of course one thing won’t change people’s mind or their opinions, but I do believe more people need to know about recasts, and why it is creating problem. Hate won't solve anything, that is correct. That's why I've personally never gone on witch hunts and so on.
However, this discussion is getting really freaking old. This is how it is. Buying recasts leads to this. It kills the hobby and enables asshats to kill everything we hold dear. That is a fact. No argument about legit dolls being insanely expensive will ever change that.
You want a BJD? Get a real BJD. Can't get it instantaneously? Well, then you gotta save up some cash. Just like the rest of us. I don't see how that's a problem whatsoever.
Now we have it in black and white, clear as day - recasts, aka counterfeit dolls, hurt this hobby more than anything. They're slowly killing it, BJD company by BJD company.
Personally, I think buying a doll for 800$ with patiently saved up cash is way less nuts than thinking with your wallet instead of your head and enabling an asshat to commit a world wide fraud.
Your anger is completely justified! These companies and artists do not deserve to have their work threatened like this. Thank you for saying all of this and sharing info to read up on the Luo situation. It’s terrible and you have every right to want recast supporters to stay away from you and your work, the dolls you put so much time and heart into. Thank you for sharing your videos and hard work with us, and especially your amazing creativity.
Thank you, I appreciate your kind words. It is indeed a terrible situation and I truly hope people will come to their senses about this. Although, perhaps that is too much to ask, considering it has already gone this far. People think with their wallets and want instant satisfaction, instead of thinking with their heads. It's sad.

If he has filed for it, then yes. I haven't checked out all the brands he's done this too, but if they're on the list, then yes...

This is just sad... Hopefully they can fight him and maybe he will end up having to pay for what he's done to these companies.
It is. And that would indeed be the best possible outcome but..Who knows what'll happen.
Jessica Karlsson now I'm happy I waited 4 years for my first doll... He will be home soon. I didn't see ringdoll listed as any of the companies do you think they would be willing to help anyway?
I'm glad you did so too, haha. It's worth it in the end, trust me. :) And I'm pretty sure they'll be targeted sooner or later... So they'll probably do what they can, yes. Then again, what do I know? Haha.
