      I know here in NC where he met his wife. He came to my neighbors house. She was the first person with MD to graduate. When the camera was on he was so fake. Camera off he was a jerk. He wanted our street closed. Nobody was going to bother him. One thing I do remember was it was hot and he had a college sweat shirt on and short shorts on. His legs looked tanned and slick.

    • @akrenwinkle
      @akrenwinkle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robertlafountaine9108 When Dean and Jerry broke up, Dean needed a character/identity of his own. Jerry already had one: the kid, the lunatic. Dean had one written for him- I forgot which writer- he wrote a lot in the 50s. And the drunk character was invented. The "as good as you're gonna feel all day" joke, by the time of this appearance, was decades old. Frank Sinatra also used it. Like many great singers, Dean was also a solid, believable actor. It's true that Dean was an alcoholic, as was Frank to a greater extent, but it's possible to be an alcoholic and portray a drunk while not being drunk.

    • @susantunbridge4612
      @susantunbridge4612 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He was not even a year into grieving for his son. Sinatra tended to be a real busybody, and insisted on the tour, which showed a callous disregard for his feelings. Same as the Lewis reunion that did not take, Sinatra being a busybody. Dean did not really want to go, he was a changed person, needed at least 3 years for grieving properly, and he never got that. During the tour, Sinatra dumped a plate of spaghetti on his head to get his attention, get him in the party mood - and that was it. Dean walked off, it was an insult to his dignity - and never went back. I don't blame him one bit. Later, he did fine performing in front of Princess Anne.

    I do not think I ever saw the guy be his real, normal self. If you saw him a lot you see for 40 years he used the same old lines. He was a good singer though.

However, there are several interviews on the internet that I've seen where he was completely normal and not playing the part of a drunk like Foster Brooks would do at times. One that comes to mind is Dean Martin interview 1984 with David Hartman on TH-cam.
