I have you all beat, I’m 91, graduated from college in 1955 so am an authority on the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. They were super times, I can’t believe the changes in the world. One thing about Dean, he had the most distinctive voice, two words of a song and you knew who the singer was. You could understand every word. I do miss him, and was so sorry when his son died. That destroyed him.
I was 13 when this aired I'm 56 now , where did time go? Wish I could go back to that time , the country was so much better then , aside from gas lines!
I was in my teens in the 70's and remember my dad always watching the roasts, he would laugh non-stop from start to finish. this was entertainment at it's finest.

What you found funny at 25 is not what today's 25 year Olds find funny. The world, sadly, is a much colder, cruelest place than it was.
Dean is my favorite singer ever. We had his music playing at my wedding and everybody loved it. No chamber music was played. After we were pronounced husband and wife, instead of the traditional walking up the aisle music, we danced up the aisle to "Ain't That A Kick In The Head"! Everybody cheered and clapped. During the reception, we played Dino, Sinatra, Bobby Darin, etc. and we were thanked all evening for not having tasteless music played. We were young too. We've been married for 18 years now. Once a week now, we have a nice sit-down dinner while the above singers serenade us as we decompress.
I love these old reruns of Dean on Carson's show. I think a lot of people dont realize how funny Dean Martin was besides being a singer and hosting a verity show. All the greats, like Dean, and Johnny to, are gone now, but they will never be forgotten.
Dean and Johnny were legends who are missed terribly. They both lost their sons in accidents. Dean's son Dino in a jet accident in 1987. Johnny's son Rick in a car accident in 1991.
Dang! sure do miss the days with entertainment like these guys, there will never be anymore like them, ever! RIP Dean and Johnny, and all of those from the days that are gone...Amen!
This was so great, Dean was so funny, he truly was a great entertainer.. and being on the same stage as Johnny, they were hilarious.. But it's sad they are no longer with us,. Anyone that remembers them must miss them like I do...

Dean could do it all, act, sing, dance, comedy and host. He was the total package without EVER being offensive. His passion though was for singing and said so on many occasions. True class which is very non existent today.

Yup, at this time in the late 70's Johnny had stopped drinking after going through AA, so there wasn't a chance that Johnny would drink something with Alcohol in it.
Today's hosts could learn a lot from these guys. Yet watching Dean whom I loved growing up, knowing the sadness he went through losing his son, makes this segment heartfelt. RIP Johnny and Dean.

@@minecraftbuilder3110 People who knew the rat pack and his son are the most reliable reporters I'd say and the consensus is that Dean could drink plenty of J&B Scotch but would cut it off earlier in the evening than the rest. Also, he drank on air frequently but not as drunk as he would pretend. He liked to have a light buzz when he was doing his act on some nights and on others he would just have apple juice.
Oh my God, when the Audience came forth with a Super Loud Standing Ovation for Dean, it made me tear up out of Happy Appreciation for him !!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Johnny always knew how to interact with his guests ... he never over- shadowed them & let them shine. Always enjoyed Dean Martin's variety show more than the roasts . Dean got to sing on the variety show...a big plus ! Also really liked Dean's Matt Helm spy-comedy movies ...my favorites were The Ambushers & Murderer's Row .. They had great casts & storyline. I remember ABC always showed Matt Helm movies before they got the rights to the James Bond films.
Great watching these clips. I remember watching Carson, Martin, Columbo programs etc. with my Mom. My dad was often on the road and knowing she was at home with my youngest brother as only company at the old farm, I would cut date, pool, and hanging out with frieds nights short so I coulkd come back and be with her. I think she appreciated it.

My dad was a huge fan of Mr Dean Martin. We grew up watching his shows and movies and of course listening to his music. ❤ We appreciate Frankie baby, but in our home, Dean is King. 🚬 😎

Dean was on a roll at that time, being just halfway thru his uber popular "Dean Martin Variety Hour" which ran a staggering 10 years. He would just pop over to Johnny's set during filming and do a guest appearance, sometimes with his own guests sitting alongside!
Grew up watching Dean & all the variety shows. Loved Dean, I always start my holiday season with Dean's Christmas CD. Loved Johnny too, when comedy was actually funny, & clean.

My dad and his cousin did a roofing job for Dean back in the 60s and said he was just a hell of a nice guy!

Dean was on a roll at that time, being just halfway thru his uber popular "Dean Martin Variety Hour" which ran a staggering 10 years. He would just pop over to Johnny's set during filming and do a guest appearance, sometimes with his own guests sitting alongside!
