Enjoyable and informative, your videos are inspiring. A few questions on pigeons: I wonder, having been at this a while now, which utility breeds you might recommend for squab production? Have you preferred sources for buying feed? Are there any books or resources you might recommend? Lastly, do you think the beautiful, old fashioned dovecotes of England or the pigeonniers of France would work for we who want productive meat production or is the reality of free ranging pigeons more a charitable donation to birds of prey? My struggle is that I’d love such a tower to serve as a visual anchor on a slope we have between a high block of vines and a lower hayfield. In any event... Kind thanks for these videos and for sharing these insights from your own experience.

Did you proceed with your hybridizing plans? If so what breed was used and are you satisfied with the result. Your plan is where I also want to go. I want pigeons for meat so what you're doing interests me intensely. If you have bred any successful hybrids I would be interested in buying some.
I did!! They are doing really well :) I'm still working to standardize their form and complete the auto-sexing, but they breed sooo much better than the French Mondain I had experience with and they haven's lost the size. I do sell and ship birds in the USA :) If you are looking for birds locally, the best thing you can go is get online and look for pigeon clubs or go to facebook groups. I found my mentor on facebook and he hooked me up with some great starter birds. I've bought from a few other people too now and am very proud of my flock. I"m actually needing to downsize because they are breeding too fast for me to keep up!

no, they do not. They would be scooped up by predators as they do not fly well either.
Hello there, could you advise me on the right ratio and ingredient mix for racing pigeons as I'd like to make up some organic food for my neighbours flock, the Marriage brand do a nice range of food but as far as I'm aware organic food is not yet available to buy in uk, I notice there's different combinations for various categories so I would appreciate your help in knowing what's best for racing pigeons, thank you
Sorry, I don't know anything about raising pigeons. I'd advise looking into pre-mixed feeds for racing pigeons. There are a few brands available in the USA and you may be able to find a very balanced diet from a pre-mixed feed available in your area.

can you do slats on the floor instead of a flat floor?
Flat sheets of wood. I dust the floor with sand to help make cleaning easier, and use a scraper when I do a full clean.

We have had a rough two years which put me off making vids. I'm hoping to get back into it. I'll be posting a video this afternoon from a trip we just took with the kids - I was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2021 so this is the first big thing we have been able to do. Thanks for thinking of us!
Hello! I am looking for the very large utilities like yours. Do you think you would have some squeakers for sale next spring? I live in northern Missouri and no one around here raises the large pigeons. I would be interested in driving to get them if you are not too far away.
Hello :) I do sell my pigeons occasionally and can ship them too (though that gets quite expensive). I am located in the north eastern part of Wisconsin, not too far from Green Bay. It would be quite a drive but not impossible if you want to make the journey! When I have a few for sale, I'll let you know. I just sold my last batch of young ones but will have more in a few months. It's very cold here so they aren't breeding quite as much as they do in spring and fall. :)
@@SixInACastle Later in spring or early summer would be best. I would have to build them a coop. What do you usually get for them and would they be considered straight run or sexed when sold?
Hello! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I haven't been as active on youtube lately. I sell my young unsexed birds for $15 each and my sexed birds for $20. Auto-sex birds are $25 each. (Autosex is like the texas pioneer, where you can tell the sex as soon as the baby hatches and also in adult hood by their color)

Where the heck can I get all those ingredients from? I don't have a farm.
Check local mills or feed stores, some pet food stores even sell seed like these.
Do you pick up there food when are done eating? Because I know if I don’t the mice get into it and my pigeons get sick from the mice poop and pee on there food.
Because I use a lot of hardware wire in my cages, i'm lucky I don't have to worry about mice. They can't get in...yet. I have to constantly watch for signs of them finding a way in though. I once had a huge rat problem with my ducks...it was awful :(
