The Children of Hurin is my absolute favorite piece of Tolkien's work. It is such a dark story and one without a happy ending, but it has so much depth and character. I suggest the read.
I guess like me, you wish this Amazon series was about the Hurin, his brother, and their lineage......sigh, so many great stories and characters in the 1st Age
Depending whether you accept the piece it was written in as canon (I can’t remember where, sorry), in the Dagor Dagorath - Tolkien’s Ragnarok, where everybody good and bad gets resurrected for one final showdown - one version has Túrin delivering the killing blow to Morgoth. Which, as retribution goes, is a pretty great ending, but still only (at best) balances out the torture Morgoth inflicted on Hurin and Turin. Not a happy ending, but a good one.
Him yelling Aure Entuluva as he fought the orcs is one of my favorite lines in literature. Especially given the power the sun has over orcs, over the darkness in the world, how a new day rising is a metaphor for hope and because Men are the children of the Sun and will eventually play such a pivotal role is defeating Morgoth and Sauron.
Children of Hurin in 30-60 minutes. The only person that I can think of that could come close to bearing that much punishment might be Helm Hammerhand.
Glad you asked about the interrogation Hurin went through. Wish you gave a bit more detail cause that conversation with Morgoth was really something. The courage, the defiance, strength & wisdom he showed in the face of utter defeat & humiliation. Not to mention he was being questioned by Morgoth of all people.

I love him and I also love Morwen so much. I think the tragedy of her story is very underrated, starting far before the events of the book. She was one of the only survivors of her people during Dagor Bragollach when she was eleven or twelve, being separated from her father and uncle who would die soon afterwards and likely losing her mother and the rest of her family except her younger cousin.

I belive that Lloyd Owen playing Elendil in Rings of Power would be brilliant Hurin! Talking about look of course! For me he is one of the greatest heroes of the First Age and I must say for that is so BADASS name, I mean Hurin...wow James as always great and interesting video and more and more 1 age videos but also 2nd, series is on the way so it would be cool!

It is such an interesting narrative from Tolkein to make two sides of the coin for the House of Hador. Hurin's family line was of tragedy and ruin, his brother Huor's line was of hope and light for Middle Earth in the First Age. Even Turin and Tuor were of different in mood, attitude and looks even though they are cousins and of the same blood line. Truly a dark and light side of the same coin.
There are thousands of videos, essays and documentaries delving into the legendarium of middle earth and i do not sense a single hint of Tolkien fatigue. His work is truly one of a kind.

So, this man was such a good fighter, that he killed a bunch of enemies and made a pile of bodies so big, that in the end he got stuck in that pile and couldn't move anymore. Question: was the enemy general named Zapp Brannigan?
No one knows what they can bear until it comes upon them. Grief is a burden that one carries. It is an exhausting burden that wears the soul down. You don't know if you can bear it nor how long you can bear it. If that is true, I wouldn't dare attempt to guess if anyone else either in Tolkien's fictional world or in the mortal world we live in, could possibly bear that level of horror , grief and pain for decades.
I don't believe that Boromir could have endured it, as he succumbed so easily to the One Ring. However, since Aragorn was able to resist the One Ring, I believe it is entirely plausible that he could have withstood that torture. I believe that Faramir might also have withstood the torture for the same reason (although it is less likely than Aragorn).
i think that destiny, parts we play and bravery doing what we know is right, even when we are scared, are central to tolken. hurin was the one in that place, so he was the only one that could stand in it. his skills were keeping his word, being honerable and trustworthy, protecting a large city and its people, over watching his family suffer. hurin his word is his bond

Hurin did not literally witness anything while Morgoth kept him imo. Morgoth WAS NOT that powerful. I have no doubt he was constantly provided with Morgoth-colored tidings of Morwen & Turin’s hardships. Hurin was most likely stricken with a mystical psychosis by Morgoth’s considerable supernatural power of will; similar to the mystical psychosis the One Ring perpetrated on Gollum; just a different type.
