    For those wondering why there is such a small difference
    the ps4's hardware is built around using an hdd and is not optimized to take full advantage of the ssd
    also it has a sata ssd, which is not the fastest

      +C815richard Because the performance is limited by the rest of the hardware, an SDD only really sees performance increase in digital-only content--and it's still marginal at best. If you have the money to throw at it, though, it isn't an inherently bad investment. If just for the performance increase or a capacity upgrade, an SSHD will be better for the money spent; an SSD is really just for stability and durability. My PS3 has been through 2 HDDs simply because they wear out over time or fail mechanically. That isn't saying an SSD "can't" fail, but it is a lot less likely. There is also a small amount in power savings (if that really matters,) slightly lower noise, and less heat generation (but not much.)
      At stock capacity, I have to reason: "why not?" you'll pay about 4x as much for a 500GB SSD as a 5400 rpm HDD or 2x the price of a good SSHD but get the benefit of longevity (not that you'll likely ever go through 4 HDDs in the life of the system.) I have a spare 850 Evo, so I'll be putting it in my PS4--but that's like... well, I've got it, so why not?

      You certainly don't know what you are talking about
      SSD produce a lot of heat.
      When on idle temp are certainly lower than on an HDD, but the story goes the other way under stress.
      And this can be proved easily. Bench an SSD and an HDD in a PC, where you can monitor temps. SSD will have a higher delta.

    • @myownfriend23
      @myownfriend23 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +C815richard This doesn't really tell the whole story in my opinion. In time, the files on the HDD may fragment causing the HDD to perform much worse than the SSD even if the max read speeds of the SSD and HDD were the same. In this situation, doing things like downloading something while playing a game (causing a lot of mixed reads and writes) can decrease performance even more. An HDD also can't read files at the end of the drive as quickly as it can at the beginning of the drive. Depending on the size of the HDD you're using, the difference in speed can be pretty drastic. SSDs will maintain the same performance from beginning to end.

    I know this video is old but people are still doing it today. Stop buying SSDs for the base PS4. It's using SATA II speeds for reading from storage. SATA II is limited to reading only 200-300 Megabytes per seconds. SDDs can transfer more than 500 Megabytes per second. So your paying more for less cause it's a bottle neck save your money and slap that SSD using SATA lll instead

    • @memesfromtheforsakenworlwi9218
      @memesfromtheforsakenworlwi9218 ปีที่แล้ว

      no and no
      RAM and CPU speed are already miles ahead of what an HDD can give or in this case a normal SATA SSD
      the problem here on why the loading times are almost identical is because a SATA connector was only designed with a normal HDD in mind so pluging in an SSD won't do much.
      but in the other case of using an M.2 NVME SSD which allows for a PCI speed in gigabits/s you will notice a huge leap in speed.
      the speed of your storage medium always matters whether when booting up or when loading a game since loading a game itself is just pulling data from the drive to RAM.

    Because the video is sped up during the load times you can't tell how much your saving in loading but trust me it's noticeable. And I agree with what another video said. On my pc the ssd made a total difference, with gains of 40% in loading time or more, depending on the game. I think the hardware from previous consoles is very limited and designed to use HDD. It's no use having a slow CPU with an SSD, because it will be underutilized.

    The PS4 is limited to SATA II, an SSD will never noticeably be beneficial in the real world via a SATA II pipleline not even SATA III can max out a basic SSD. But... Power usage goes down so you will save electric but even then it will be minimal over the course of a few years of heavy usage to actually get back what you have paid for a say the cheapest 1TB SSD in 2023.

      An HDD is a Hard Disk Drive, it uses platters inside of it. An SSD is all flash memory, kinda like the SD card that you use in cameras or in phones. Since its flash memory, data is acquired a lot faster, meaning faster load times in games

      The software would be the hardest part. I would say that would take you a good 10 - 20 min to trouble shoot, find the software file, then download it on your usb. As for installing the hard drive that's easiest part. You just take out the hdd, replace it with the ssd, & screw that into place.
