Billy Dyson but NVME SSD prices are still so high and you could barely fit at least 7 games on the 1TB HDD and not even 3-4 games on the 500GB HDD in PS4. PS5 Games will be gigantic so a 825GB NVME SSD won’t be enough for 3-5 Games. And replacing it with at least a 2TB NVME SSD nearly costs as much (or even more ) as/than a PS4 Slim. So a Sata HDD/SSD bay where you can mount 2.5/3.5 Inch HDD/SSD is probably going to be good , so you could mount a idk for example a 3TB 3.5 inch 7200rpm HDD for like 70-100$. It would be good if Sony would make a Sata III HDD/SSD Bay 2.5/3.5 inch for it. It would be good , you could even order a PS5 with a 1-4TB 7200RPM 3.5 inch installed in it for games for like 100-150$+ Or a 1-2TB Sata III 2.5 inch SSD for games for like 150-200$+.

My PS4 only had a 500GB HDD, so upgrading capacity and to SSD at the same time was a reasonable choice. Nowadays when computer hardware frequently goes on sale price is a lot less of an issue.
I just replaced the stock HDD on my PS4pro with a Samsung 860 QVO 2 tb. Perhaps one of the best investments in gaming I have made! I felt it massively reduced the load-times in games like DMC5, Metro Exodus and Spider-man! In addition, now I don't have to delete any of my games since I got the 2tb version.
Dumb not to upgrade to an SSD If you have a PS4 pro. Pro uses SATA III connectors and the old PS4 uses SATA II. So using an SSD in a pro is light-years faster than using one in a shitty base model PS4
I know for The Division 2 on PS4 Pro, having it installed on an external SSD ( Samsung T7 ) pretty much entirely eliminates texture pop-in. It was horrible on the hdd, textures wouldn't load for a good 10 seconds or so after fast traveling, and also audio would be delayed by a few seconds too. It was very distracting playing it on a hdd.
For anyone wondering, the SSD speed in the PS4 doesn't actually matter, they are *all* being bottlenecked by the PS4 hardware. You can see this when comparing a standard PS4 with an SSD to the PS4 Pro w/ SSD and then a PC w/SSD. Don't fret over which one to buy, it doesn't matter, you're not getting the rated read/write speeds no matter what you go with.
@Yes indeed basically the ps4 and ps4 slim use a SATA 2 connection for their storage, which is limited to 300 MB/s approximately. SATA 3 which is what the ps4 and any modern pc uses caps out at 600 MB/s or double the speed. A typical hard drive can get sequential read speeds of 40-160 MB/s. Significantly lower than even the SATA 2 speed. So even though the SSD you buy says 550 MB/s read speeds, you'll max get like 300 because of the ps4. But because hard drives are so slow, it's still an improvement. I still think it's worth it IMO if you still use a ps4 a lot, you just don't get the full benefit of the ssd unless you have a ps4 pro.
Really good video. I don't own a ps4 as my poison is the PC. It's interesting to see the difference between load times with an SSD on a console compared to a PC with an SSD. Im convinced the next generation consoles that come with SSDS will load considerably quicker than you see the ps4 here load even with the SSD as no doubt they will actually optimise the system to utilise the drive on a firmware/os level.
Recently switched to an 2Tb SSD. I don't know if this it's just me but my pro no longer sounds like the rotating rudder of a jet. So that in addition to faster UI and more space and faster loading all of it was worth the 250 I spent on it.
I use SSHD on PS4 pro, it makes slight but noticeable improvement. I also use SSHD on ps3 and it makes quite a difference especially with games that have a lot of texture popup
What I found is that the PS3 has a slight advantage using an SSHD, but anything faster it can't take advantage of because of its interface. And the PS4, at least the Pro, will be able to use the speed of an SSD a lot more. - An SSHD is right in the middle of an HDD and SSD, as you would expect.
Even though SSDs may not make as big of a difference in a PS4 as much as they do in PCs, due to the PS4's hardware bottleneck, it's still a decent upgrade because in addition to reducing load times by about 30% it also makes your system run cooler (no vibrations from the HDD's spinning platters), the option menus in and out of the game are much more snappy and of course texture pop-in in open world games is dramatically reduced. But to be honest the PS4 or even the Pro does not have the hardware to fully harness the sequential read/write speeds of the top tier SSDs. The difference in performance between an entry level SSD like a Kingston or Transcend will only be MARGINALLY less compared to the top tier Samsung and Hyper X SSDs. The loading time difference will be just a couple of seconds but the price difference will be too high and won't justify the use of a top tier SSD in a machine that cannot fully harness its potential. So that's what I did, I went for the cheapest 480 gb SSD (Kingston) that I could get and plopped it into my Pro. Then removed the stock 1 TB HDD and put it in an external case to be used as extended storage. As long as you actually switch to an SSD, you will get the benefits inherent to that technology, without spending unnecessarily.
If you purchased a 2TB SSD you could possibly future-proof yourself when the PS5 releases. I know Sony are going to use an SSD in the PS5 but it won't be as good as a decent Samsung SSD, i suppose it will also depend on how big the PS5 games are. I'm using a 2TB SSHD and the textures in games like Blackout can take a while to pop, and it's annoying in games like that, you need to see what's on the ground as soon as you land.
@@MrEncore91 Because the PS4 allows it, you can actually go for the PC layout of having a relatively small SSD for system boot and important files while having a large HDD for storage (basically stuff that's not in regular use). So you can play games off of the internal SSD at super high speeds while keeping the rest of your library on an external extended storage which can be 1-2 TB. The only issue with this layout tho is having to manage the games on each storage.....but it's not so bad. I was personally gonna get a 2 TB SSHD myself! Those FireCudas look fuckin dope! But when the option of extended storage presented itself I thought it better to divide my storage into fast internal and slow external. A 2 TB SSD would definitely be future proof.....but it would cost even more than your console lmao! Highly impractical when you know 80% of the games you fill it with you won't be playing regularly untill you get done with the 20% you just started on. Don't worry tho the SSDs in the PS5 will most likely be the PCIe type which are even faster than regular SSDs, and yes even Samsung's QVO & Pro series! We may not be able to change the PS5's internal drive....but with a super fast SSD in-built we won't need to :)

I dropped an EVO 1Tb SSD in one of my Pros, and a Firecuda 2TB SSHD in another Pro. Concerning the SSD’s advantages, they’re quite significant: minimal loading, sharper images, and an overall more stable gaming experience. Yeah, the SSD and SATA interface is very much appreciated and further enhances the already awesome PlayStation 4 Pro.

it's sata 3.0 the ps4 pro/xbox one x use sata 3.0 the ps4/xbox one use sata 2.0 that is why the ssd is only like 20-30% faster then the HDD here when on the pro/oneX it's around 70-90% faster with the same ssd PC's work the same way, you need a motherboard that can support sata 3.0 to use the full speed of your ssd.
Not to mention, the fact that disc drives are prone to break very easily! This is reason enough to upgrade to solid state, I would hate to lose everything on my ps4 due to a bang/drop. The ssd could take more damage than your ps4 could take. Now I don't have to worry about my ps4 when taking it away on work trips 😎

still rocking phat 2013 ps4 with stock 500gb hdd lol. with fast internet connection, no need to worry about deleting some played games and reinstall them whenever i need it. will replace it when it has some kind of "read error" symptoms
Same. I even have a PC capable of playing games at 1444p and I just... don't. My stock PS4 with 500gb has never bothered me much. I have to say though, games like the Witcher do play better on an SSD as I have the chance to sit and play on a friend's PS4 with one installed. I think it you play a lot of open world games like Fallout and the Witcher it's certainly worth the upgrade but I only really play BF5 and Fifa. No issues for me personally.
I tested both a Samsung EVO and a QVO in the PS4 Pro and their performance is identical, when loading maps in Black Ops 4 the QVO actually came out ahead a bit, but I considder this to be within measuring error. Also used a QVO in a PS4 Slim, and while it's a tad slower, not by much. To throw out some numbers, loading the smallerst map Nuketown took 16 seconds on a stock Slim 1TB and the biggest map Militia 32 seconds, from loading screen to specialist selection. A PS4 Slim + QVO loads them both in 9 seconds. And a PS4 Pro with QVO an EVO drives do that in about 7 seconds. When looking at price points though, I would probably go with a Crucial MX500 in a PS4 system, but the Samsung drives simply have better availability where I live in Asia. Based on the numbers though I would expect them to show identical performance to the EVO/QVO parts. What it tells me is that basicly a mediocre SSD will be bottlenecked by the PS4 system, so spending money on high end SSD's is throwing away your money. A QLC part like the Samsung QVO works really well and due to the cheaper nature it's more interesting to get a 2TB QVO instead of a more expensive 1TB EVO.

As an update working great 2 ps4s side by side the one with the ssd loads into an online game about 15-20 seconds faster and offline I can load into say Skyrim about 30 seconds faster load screens are pretty short now too

Why do people keep thinking that SSDs only improve booting time for games (i.e. reducing time loading new areas or booting up the game from the start menu)? Not everything is loaded in once everything is done. There sound effects, visual effects, lighting and shadow calculations, loading new objects triggered by scripting, unloading objects, replacing objects, changing coordinates, culling, etc. SSD affects all these. If all it did was imcrease bootup time, it would be considered a niche change and not an upgrade.
Yes, worth it. I am using a 4TB, a 2TB Samsung Evo 860, and a 2TB Crucial MX 500 SSDs in my Xbox1x, and using a 4TB Qvo Samsung SSD in my PS4 Pro. It is a huge difference in loading, and I love it. Worth it.
the EVO 1TB is on sale for $115 on amazon right now, and the PRO should be around $200 on the other side of consoles, I just installed a 512GB EVO into my Xbox One X and there's a noticeable speed increase. its not super dramatic but is indeed a good 30% increase or so average, which seems right in line with the PS4 results.
While I generally support in using SSD’s instead of HDD’s I will stick with my HDD simply because of capacity and price. At the time I bought my 2TB hard drive, the price was around $120. I have a ton of games and if I want to buy an SSD with the same capacity of my HDD I would have to pay somewhere around $200 to $270 which in my opinion is not worth the slight decrease of load times
If you game a lot it is worth it imo. The 30 % increase in speed is quite a lot. Especially if you play games which load for quite some time. And if you own PS4 PRO it is a few seconds faster. The only bad thing is the SSD needs at least 20-10 % of free space for optimal performance so the 2 TB size would be a sweet spot I think and maybe even more appropriate than 1 TB as more space means less deleting / reinstalling of games which should extend the life expectancy of an SSD drive.
Well one thing this video forgets is that the 1tb ssd will also allow you to download video games faster as long as you have afast connections. The speed of the drive does limit the download speed. You’re going to save hours on dl time and 30% faster load times is amazing. Also dont forget you only get the best speeds of a mechanical drive in the first 30% of the storage. If you use your drive to full capacity the mechanical drive’s speed will go from ~ 100 mb/s to 20 mb/s. With an ssd yourexoerience will bethe same accross the board.

You can have the best SSD and it will be almost the same. It's a matter of Bandwidth. PS4 has a "Fixed" bandwidth so to speak, for loading games, cache, and video recording.
I have PS4 pro with 4tb ssd... significantly better gameplay, no artifact background loading issues like I had before. Hoping ps5 has options for 8tb+ hard drive. Or dual drives of sort. I'm down to just a few 100gb left. Hopefully lasts till 2020, ps+ adds lots of free games taking up space.
PS5 one prob won't be so easy to change like PS4Pro as its been custom built to be faster than standard SSDs. So I'd not be surprised if they use PCIe4 instead of SATA3 and go with NVMe SSD.
Maybe it's just because quality 1tb ssds are less than 100 now but I think a lot of people aren't good at math if they came away thinking an ssd isn't a sound investment for their PS4. 30% average loading time reduction is nothing to scoff at, even if some of the ssd potential is lost in the ps4 hardware bottleneck. For every 100 minutes of loading time you get an extra 30mins of gaming. Sounds great to me.
Was thinking about upgrading to SSD for my base 2014 PS4 but if it’s not 50% increase I don’t think it’s worth the $100 price tag when I can just wait until PS5. 15-20 second difference isn’t substantial. I hate the sluggish interface but I think I just need to rebuild my PS4 database which I have not done 1 single time in the 5 years I’ve owned the console....
Skyrim se loads super fast with ssd I just did the swap a week ago now I cant stop playing it. It's almost instant for me and i used a cheap 1 off amazon for 25 bucks

I got a 250GB second hand of the SSD and it cost like $60 bucks. You don't really need 1TB just get a portable if you are really into collecting games and shit. I played a lot of MHW and this game is probably 50% of the time you spend loading. The best investment ever, the diff is huge and accumulative.
The biggest issue is that none of the consoles have correct controller support to use the SSDs efficiently so you're losing 2x-3x of the performance of what it should be as those same drives loading up on PC would at the very least cut load times in half. To me the only reason to get a SSD is for longevity, which is a fine reason, but not something I'd get till 2TB SSDs are dirt cheap, along with PS3 and 360 hacked systems

I just purchased a 960gig Kingston ssd for my laptop for 99 bucks! : ) You also failed to mention a very important point. sata drives have a fairly short life span. 5 years is average before it begins to decay. By upgrading to a ssd drive you are drastically extending the life of your ps4 as well as the fact that ssds have no moving parts to wear out. That doesn't mean they won't. The average life span of a ssd is close to twice that of a sata drive. Happy gaming. : )
Spent about $100 on a 4 gb ram chip and 1 tb sdd for my laptop. Best investment I’ve ever made. It took 2 min+ to boot up before. Now it takes less than 5 secs. SSD on PS4 probably won’t be as drastic, but ~ $90 for 1 tb ssd is asking for a lot, for not mind blowing improvements. Guess we’ll wait for Black Friday

I would think that maybe you could net more of a performance increase with the Evo due to other factors other than read/write, but it wouldn't amount to much more than 5%-10% at best case. However I think the delta increases with the PS4 Pro as that I believe it takes better advantage of the SATA 3 connectivity and could warrant even greater differences.
Last year I upgraded my PS4 drive to another mechanical drive, a 2TB one. I never tested the speed, or used the console enough to compare any speed difference, I wanted the capacity more than anything. Now I am slowly thinking of getting, if I can find a cheap one, 2TB SSD drive for it. Speed increase would be nice, but I am more worried about reliability. Having said that, I do wonder if PS4's OS can handle properly an SSD or not in the long run.
Using the evo 860 and love it. I agree with the UI I messed up my typing which I never did before by letting go early or late on a letter because of the faster responsiveness I wasn’t used to haha
PS4 only supports SATA 2... which means the max speed you can get from SSD is 300MB/s ... The original PS4 slim HD is about 100mb/s ... so yes, u can get around 30% better speed but just for loading games, not for playing them. Regular 1Tb 2,5" Sata 3 is about 20$ and the same SSD is about 90$ ... U decide if it's worth it for you. ✌
I played the anthem quite a bit and it is not remotely the worst loading screen game of all time I won’t lie it has a few loading screens and sometimes it seems like you just watch the loading screen to watch another loading screen but it is by far not the worst ever
I put 2 samsung SSD pro 860 1TB (1 to my xbox one x / 1 to my PS4 slim) there is very small difference in speed between pro/evo/qvo almost non. Difference is in life spam, pro ll "live" longer that evo/quo, quo have shortest live time
or you can just install a 3.5" Seagate SSHD like I did, and it's still much better than the original HDD, and the loading times are also much more improved. but great video nonetheless. I guess this could be an idea for a future video
@@youkidandthat1205 not really. It has an 8gb SSD partition i think, that allocates what you use more frequently. therefore, what you play more frequently will load faster. and not to mention that a 3.5" HDD is 7200rpm and that also makes it a lot faster. Mine's a 4tb
@@youkidandthat1205 I'm sure that's what it does. I notice a huge difference between the original HDD and the SSHD I installed. I used a data bank to replace the HDD cover of the original PS4 so that the new HDD had all the power it needed. And it runs great. All games install a lot faster and also load faster, and not to mention you can get a lot more storage for the same price as an SSD. Mine was $120 back in 2016, and it's a 4tb beast.

I watched another video and he said the same as you that after the 4th or 5th boot of the same game, they boot just as fast as a ssd. I personally don't think SSDs are worth it at least for me. The speed times are not massively different for me to spend $100+ more for something smaller in capacity than what I currently have and than what I need. I'm talking by experience since I bought one 2 years ago and let me tell you, it was not that impressive as I imagined. I can get a 2TB hard drive for $150 cheaper than a 2TB SSD, which is what I'll do. For me, getting an SSD only make sense when you use it as an upgrade for a PC because they actually make a huge difference in that field. (This comment was made before watching the video)

Nah its obvious,SSD tech back 6 years ago were more expensive,its the same reason why the base PS2 didnt include the Network adapter on the back and sold it seperately before the PS2 slim built that in,The SSDs would have jacked up the prices up by at least 200$+ making the PS4 cost 699$ at retail. Sure it is, if you're interested in playing your old PS4 games on PS5. You could put the SSD from your PS4 into an external enclosure and use it with your PS5, so that you wouldn't need to use the limited internal SSD on PS4 games that don't need all that speed. The external SSD would still be faster than it was internally in a PS4.

Because the 825GB Nvme m.2 ssd will probably be Full after only 5-10 Games , remember ps4 games were exceeding 100gb with updates included , imagine ps5 games with updates , probably over 300gb , so a additional 2.5/3.5 inch SATA III drive bay will be nice 👍

Billy Dyson but NVME SSD prices are still so high and you could barely fit at least 7 games on the 1TB HDD and not even 3-4 games on the 500GB HDD in PS4. PS5 Games will be gigantic so a 825GB NVME SSD won’t be enough for 3-5 Games.
And replacing it with at least a 2TB NVME SSD nearly costs as much (or even more ) as/than a PS4 Slim.
So a Sata HDD/SSD bay where you can mount 2.5/3.5 Inch HDD/SSD is probably going to be good , so you could mount a idk for example a 3TB 3.5 inch 7200rpm HDD for like 70-100$.
It would be good if Sony would make a Sata III HDD/SSD Bay 2.5/3.5 inch for it.

My PS4 only had a 500GB HDD, so upgrading capacity and to SSD at the same time was a reasonable choice. Nowadays when computer hardware frequently goes on sale price is a lot less of an issue.
Personal I think 25-40% faster overtime and snappier menu browsing and other minor things you don’t notice but OVER TIME it’s amazing I tell ya
I just replaced the stock HDD on my PS4pro with a Samsung 860 QVO 2 tb. Perhaps one of the best investments in gaming I have made! I felt it massively reduced the load-times in games like DMC5, Metro Exodus and Spider-man! In addition, now I don't have to delete any of my games since I got the 2tb version.

Dumb not to upgrade to an SSD If you have a PS4 pro. Pro uses SATA III connectors and the old PS4 uses SATA II. So using an SSD in a pro is light-years faster than using one in a shitty base model PS4

I know for The Division 2 on PS4 Pro, having it installed on an external SSD ( Samsung T7 ) pretty much entirely eliminates texture pop-in. It was horrible on the hdd, textures wouldn't load for a good 10 seconds or so after fast traveling, and also audio would be delayed by a few seconds too. It was very distracting playing it on a hdd.

For anyone wondering, the SSD speed in the PS4 doesn't actually matter, they are *all* being bottlenecked by the PS4 hardware. You can see this when comparing a standard PS4 with an SSD to the PS4 Pro w/ SSD and then a PC w/SSD. Don't fret over which one to buy, it doesn't matter, you're not getting the rated read/write speeds no matter what you go with.

@Yes indeed basically the ps4 and ps4 slim use a SATA 2 connection for their storage, which is limited to 300 MB/s approximately. SATA 3 which is what the ps4 and any modern pc uses caps out at 600 MB/s or double the speed. A typical hard drive can get sequential read speeds of 40-160 MB/s. Significantly lower than even the SATA 2 speed. So even though the SSD you buy says 550 MB/s read speeds, you'll max get like 300 because of the ps4. But because hard drives are so slow, it's still an improvement. I still think it's worth it IMO if you still use a ps4 a lot, you just don't get the full benefit of the ssd unless you have a ps4 pro.
Really good video. I don't own a ps4 as my poison is the PC. It's interesting to see the difference between load times with an SSD on a console compared to a PC with an SSD. Im convinced the next generation consoles that come with SSDS will load considerably quicker than you see the ps4 here load even with the SSD as no doubt they will actually optimise the system to utilise the drive on a firmware/os level.

Recently switched to an 2Tb SSD. I don't know if this it's just me but my pro no longer sounds like the rotating rudder of a jet. So that in addition to faster UI and more space and faster loading all of it was worth the 250 I spent on it.

I use SSHD on PS4 pro, it makes slight but noticeable improvement. I also use SSHD on ps3 and it makes quite a difference especially with games that have a lot of texture popup

What I found is that the PS3 has a slight advantage using an SSHD, but anything faster it can't take advantage of because of its interface.
And the PS4, at least the Pro, will be able to use the speed of an SSD a lot more. - An SSHD is right in the middle of an HDD and SSD, as you would expect.
Even though SSDs may not make as big of a difference in a PS4 as much as they do in PCs, due to the PS4's hardware bottleneck, it's still a decent upgrade because in addition to reducing load times by about 30% it also makes your system run cooler (no vibrations from the HDD's spinning platters), the option menus in and out of the game are much more snappy and of course texture pop-in in open world games is dramatically reduced.
But to be honest the PS4 or even the Pro does not have the hardware to fully harness the sequential read/write speeds of the top tier SSDs. The difference in performance between an entry level SSD like a Kingston or Transcend will only be MARGINALLY less compared to the top tier Samsung and Hyper X SSDs. The loading time difference will be just a couple of seconds but the price difference will be too high and won't justify the use of a top tier SSD in a machine that cannot fully harness its potential.
So that's what I did, I went for the cheapest 480 gb SSD (Kingston) that I could get and plopped it into my Pro. Then removed the stock 1 TB HDD and put it in an external case to be used as extended storage. As long as you actually switch to an SSD, you will get the benefits inherent to that technology, without spending unnecessarily.

If you purchased a 2TB SSD you could possibly future-proof yourself when the PS5 releases. I know Sony are going to use an SSD in the PS5 but it won't be as good as a decent Samsung SSD, i suppose it will also depend on how big the PS5 games are. I'm using a 2TB SSHD and the textures in games like Blackout can take a while to pop, and it's annoying in games like that, you need to see what's on the ground as soon as you land.
@@MrEncore91 Because the PS4 allows it, you can actually go for the PC layout of having a relatively small SSD for system boot and important files while having a large HDD for storage (basically stuff that's not in regular use). So you can play games off of the internal SSD at super high speeds while keeping the rest of your library on an external extended storage which can be 1-2 TB. The only issue with this layout tho is having to manage the games on each storage.....but it's not so bad.
I was personally gonna get a 2 TB SSHD myself! Those FireCudas look fuckin dope! But when the option of extended storage presented itself I thought it better to divide my storage into fast internal and slow external.
A 2 TB SSD would definitely be future proof.....but it would cost even more than your console lmao! Highly impractical when you know 80% of the games you fill it with you won't be playing regularly untill you get done with the 20% you just started on. Don't worry tho the SSDs in the PS5 will most likely be the PCIe type which are even faster than regular SSDs, and yes even Samsung's QVO & Pro series! We may not be able to change the PS5's internal drive....but with a super fast SSD in-built we won't need to :)

I dropped an EVO 1Tb SSD in one of my Pros, and a Firecuda 2TB SSHD in another Pro. Concerning the SSD’s advantages, they’re quite significant: minimal loading, sharper images, and an overall more stable gaming experience.

PC's work the same way, you need a motherboard that can support sata 3.0 to use the full speed of your ssd.

Same. I even have a PC capable of playing games at 1444p and I just... don't. My stock PS4 with 500gb has never bothered me much. I have to say though, games like the Witcher do play better on an SSD as I have the chance to sit and play on a friend's PS4 with one installed. I think it you play a lot of open world games like Fallout and the Witcher it's certainly worth the upgrade but I only really play BF5 and Fifa. No issues for me personally.
I tested both a Samsung EVO and a QVO in the PS4 Pro and their performance is identical, when loading maps in Black Ops 4 the QVO actually came out ahead a bit, but I considder this to be within measuring error. Also used a QVO in a PS4 Slim, and while it's a tad slower, not by much. To throw out some numbers, loading the smallerst map Nuketown took 16 seconds on a stock Slim 1TB and the biggest map Militia 32 seconds, from loading screen to specialist selection. A PS4 Slim + QVO loads them both in 9 seconds. And a PS4 Pro with QVO an EVO drives do that in about 7 seconds. When looking at price points though, I would probably go with a Crucial MX500 in a PS4 system, but the Samsung drives simply have better availability where I live in Asia. Based on the numbers though I would expect them to show identical performance to the EVO/QVO parts. What it tells me is that basicly a mediocre SSD will be bottlenecked by the PS4 system, so spending money on high end SSD's is throwing away your money. A QLC part like the Samsung QVO works really well and due to the cheaper nature it's more interesting to get a 2TB QVO instead of a more expensive 1TB EVO.

As an update working great 2 ps4s side by side the one with the ssd loads into an online game about 15-20 seconds faster and offline I can load into say Skyrim about 30 seconds faster load screens are pretty short now too
Can i just state that an ssd removes or reduces texture pop aswell as menu lagg when you try to do something while a game is running in the background ((Blackops4 players will know what im talking about))

Why do people keep thinking that SSDs only improve booting time for games (i.e. reducing time loading new areas or booting up the game from the start menu)? Not everything is loaded in once everything is done. There sound effects, visual effects, lighting and shadow calculations, loading new objects triggered by scripting, unloading objects, replacing objects, changing coordinates, culling, etc. SSD affects all these. If all it did was imcrease bootup time, it would be considered a niche change and not an upgrade.

Yes, worth it. I am using a 4TB, a 2TB Samsung Evo 860, and a 2TB Crucial MX 500 SSDs in my Xbox1x, and using a 4TB Qvo Samsung SSD in my PS4 Pro. It is a huge difference in loading, and I love it. Worth it.

on the other side of consoles, I just installed a 512GB EVO into my Xbox One X and there's a noticeable speed increase. its not super dramatic but is indeed a good 30% increase or so average, which seems right in line with the PS4 results.

While I generally support in using SSD’s instead of HDD’s I will stick with my HDD simply because of capacity and price. At the time I bought my 2TB hard drive, the price was around $120. I have a ton of games and if I want to buy an SSD with the same capacity of my HDD I would have to pay somewhere around $200 to $270 which in my opinion is not worth the slight decrease of load times
If you game a lot it is worth it imo. The 30 % increase in speed is quite a lot. Especially if you play games which load for quite some time. And if you own PS4 PRO it is a few seconds faster. The only bad thing is the SSD needs at least 20-10 % of free space for optimal performance so the 2 TB size would be a sweet spot I think and maybe even more appropriate than 1 TB as more space means less deleting / reinstalling of games which should extend the life expectancy of an SSD drive.
Well one thing this video forgets is that the 1tb ssd will also allow you to download video games faster as long as you have afast connections. The speed of the drive does limit the download speed. You’re going to save hours on dl time and 30% faster load times is amazing. Also dont forget you only get the best speeds of a mechanical drive in the first 30% of the storage. If you use your drive to full capacity the mechanical drive’s speed will go from ~ 100 mb/s to 20 mb/s.
With an ssd yourexoerience will bethe same accross the board.

You can have the best SSD and it will be almost the same. It's a matter of Bandwidth. PS4 has a "Fixed" bandwidth so to speak, for loading games, cache, and video recording.
I have PS4 pro with 4tb ssd... significantly better gameplay, no artifact background loading issues like I had before. Hoping ps5 has options for 8tb+ hard drive. Or dual drives of sort. I'm down to just a few 100gb left. Hopefully lasts till 2020, ps+ adds lots of free games taking up space.
PS5 one prob won't be so easy to change like PS4Pro as its been custom built to be faster than standard SSDs. So I'd not be surprised if they use PCIe4 instead of SATA3 and go with NVMe SSD.
Maybe it's just because quality 1tb ssds are less than 100 now but I think a lot of people aren't good at math if they came away thinking an ssd isn't a sound investment for their PS4. 30% average loading time reduction is nothing to scoff at, even if some of the ssd potential is lost in the ps4 hardware bottleneck. For every 100 minutes of loading time you get an extra 30mins of gaming. Sounds great to me.
Was thinking about upgrading to SSD for my base 2014 PS4 but if it’s not 50% increase I don’t think it’s worth the $100 price tag when I can just wait until PS5. 15-20 second difference isn’t substantial. I hate the sluggish interface but I think I just need to rebuild my PS4 database which I have not done 1 single time in the 5 years I’ve owned the console....

The biggest issue is that none of the consoles have correct controller support to use the SSDs efficiently so you're losing 2x-3x of the performance of what it should be as those same drives loading up on PC would at the very least cut load times in half. To me the only reason to get a SSD is for longevity, which is a fine reason, but not something I'd get till 2TB SSDs are dirt cheap, along with PS3 and 360 hacked systems

You also failed to mention a very important point. sata drives have a fairly short life span. 5 years is average before it begins to decay. By upgrading to a ssd drive you are drastically extending the life of your ps4 as well as the fact that ssds have no moving parts to wear out.
That doesn't mean they won't. The average life span of a ssd is close to twice that of a sata drive.

Picking up a 500gb ssd on black friday is super cheap. I'd say it's worth it.
Spent about $100 on a 4 gb ram chip and 1 tb sdd for my laptop. Best investment I’ve ever made. It took 2 min+ to boot up before. Now it takes less than 5 secs. SSD on PS4 probably won’t be as drastic, but ~ $90 for 1 tb ssd is asking for a lot, for not mind blowing improvements. Guess we’ll wait for Black Friday

The differences are barely noticeable imho. I can wait in leisure gaming. An ssd is more needed at work. I'll upgrade if it loads in like a few seconds. Thanks for the additional knowledge! 🙌
I would think that maybe you could net more of a performance increase with the Evo due to other factors other than read/write, but it wouldn't amount to much more than 5%-10% at best case.
However I think the delta increases with the PS4 Pro as that I believe it takes better advantage of the SATA 3 connectivity and could warrant even greater differences.

Last year I upgraded my PS4 drive to another mechanical drive, a 2TB one. I never tested the speed, or used the console enough to compare any speed difference, I wanted the capacity more than anything.
Now I am slowly thinking of getting, if I can find a cheap one, 2TB SSD drive for it. Speed increase would be nice, but I am more worried about reliability. Having said that, I do wonder if PS4's OS can handle properly an SSD or not in the long run.
Trusteft I want to get a 4tb ssd for the slim profile that can be inserted internally. But it’s almost $500 more

I messed up my typing which I never did before by letting go early or late on a letter because of the faster responsiveness I wasn’t used to haha

PS4 only supports SATA 2... which means the max speed you can get from SSD is 300MB/s ... The original PS4 slim HD is about 100mb/s ... so yes, u can get around 30% better speed but just for loading games, not for playing them. Regular 1Tb 2,5" Sata 3 is about 20$ and the same SSD is about 90$ ... U decide if it's worth it for you. ✌
I played the anthem quite a bit and it is not remotely the worst loading screen game of all time I won’t lie it has a few loading screens and sometimes it seems like you just watch the loading screen to watch another loading screen but it is by far not the worst ever
I wonder if upgrading to an SSD might reduce the texture pop-in of Horizon FW, they can be very annoying at times.
I put 2 samsung SSD pro 860 1TB (1 to my xbox one x / 1 to my PS4 slim) there is very small difference in speed between pro/evo/qvo almost non. Difference is in life spam, pro ll "live" longer that evo/quo, quo have shortest live time

they wont get hotter than spinning hard drives.
or you can just install a 3.5" Seagate SSHD like I did, and it's still much better than the original HDD, and the loading times are also much more improved. but great video nonetheless.

@@youkidandthat1205 not really. It has an 8gb SSD partition i think, that allocates what you use more frequently. therefore, what you play more frequently will load faster. and not to mention that a 3.5" HDD is 7200rpm and that also makes it a lot faster. Mine's a 4tb
Ah I see so if I was playing a certain game over a long period of time the sand would prioritize that game? A sshd seems to be much cheaper.
@@youkidandthat1205 I'm sure that's what it does. I notice a huge difference between the original HDD and the SSHD I installed. I used a data bank to replace the HDD cover of the original PS4 so that the new HDD had all the power it needed. And it runs great. All games install a lot faster and also load faster, and not to mention you can get a lot more storage for the same price as an SSD. Mine was $120 back in 2016, and it's a 4tb beast.
@@zezebro17 Did you add the data bank to get rid of the sata to usb bottleneck? I watched another video and he said the same as you that after the 4th or 5th boot of the same game, they boot just as fast as a ssd. I'm just playing through assassins creed odyssey so I think it would be a great improvement. Plus I'm fed up of having to delete games just to install updates.

I personally don't think SSDs are worth it at least for me. The speed times are not massively different for me to spend $100+ more for something smaller in capacity than what I currently have and than what I need. I'm talking by experience since I bought one 2 years ago and let me tell you, it was not that impressive as I imagined. I can get a 2TB hard drive for $150 cheaper than a 2TB SSD, which is what I'll do. For me, getting an SSD only make sense when you use it as an upgrade for a PC because they actually make a huge difference in that field.

Nah its obvious,SSD tech back 6 years ago were more expensive,its the same reason why the base PS2 didnt include the Network adapter on the back and sold it seperately before the PS2 slim built that in,The SSDs would have jacked up the prices up by at least 200$+ making the PS4 cost 699$ at retail.
Sony allowed the options open so by the time things got cheaper,people can go ahead and take advantage of the SSDs.Notice how the SSDs are intergrated with the PS5s? Yeah thats because SSDs are cheaper now lol.

i would say it's worth it, but honestly at this point. with the new xbox and ps5 just being less then a year away. it's really not worth the investment.
Sure it is, if you're interested in playing your old PS4 games on PS5. You could put the SSD from your PS4 into an external enclosure and use it with your PS5, so that you wouldn't need to use the limited internal SSD on PS4 games that don't need all that speed. The external SSD would still be faster than it was internally in a PS4.
@@stale2665 that's a none issue as the new ps5 and xbox series x both have an internal 1 tb ssd, and not last gen ssd. but the new generation, so chances are it will be fast and loads of space, i will never understand why people need their whole library of games installed on their console.
