Just bought my new Model 12 yesterday, and although I did quite a bit of research, this was my first 'tutorial' video. And in a nutshell you demystified the main thing I was worried would be difficult - getting the tracks out of the Tascam into my iPad. I use the computer a lot, but prefer iPad for music, presently using Cubasis, which the Tascam can even act as Daw Controller for now. I was especially glad you showed how to transfer via USB without removing the SD card, something I do not like messing with. Thanks!
I have had my 12 for about 1 year and I love it. I am now going back to watch videos to refresh my knowledge and add to it what I have missed. This is a great video that explains a lot.
Your video has helped me enormously today - thank you. I got it to work after much frustration. Without these tutorials it would be impossible so this is vital. Tascam should do more themselves. I will be back for more advice so please keep going.
I can't wait to get home and try thus. Your research is such a help. I never would have thought to copy from SD to computer then upload into Reaper. God, thus will be fun!!
I would like to add stereo reverb to my final mix. It is a Pioneer SR101 tube reverb and I think you explained a way for me to basically “sum” tracks down and then reroute out, through reverb amp and into a final stereo channel.
Forget my last comment. I'm trying to mixdown from the model 12, what's already recorded onto the SD card. I have all tracks EQ'd, & the levels where I want them on the model 12, so I don't want to transfer the files because then I'll have to do all that over again...& If you have to do that all over again, then it's really pointless to record on the model 12... I just want to do a stereo mixdown from the SD card recording FROM the model 12. I can't figure out how to. All I've figured out is to use the UBS cable, which seems to only work in DAW mode. I've tried Bluetooth, but don't have any sound that way... I'm lost.... I can connect the main outs to another computer & plug into that PCs mic jack & have gotten good results, but only have limited access to that PC. But that's basically what I want to do, because that's how I've been making my final stereo mixes for 20+ years & it works just fine. But my other PC doesn't have a mic jack, so I can't do that either.
I'm really trying to help. To what I can read from your comment, you have recorded your instruments onto M12 and want to mix on M12 and have a stereo WAV file exported. Then this last part of my video shows you exactly that. th-cam.com/video/LA6L2LBz-a4/w-d-xo.html
Really considering one of these. I've had a Tascam 424mkiii since the early 2000s & I can make pretty decent recordings sometimes. Other times, not so much. It's really tricky, especially when some of your equipment isn't the "best" quality. So it's kinda "hit or miss." On top of that, it recently started acting weird "sound wise." Nothing sounds right - or even good - no matter what. I've connected it to my PC & recorded thru Audacity & the sound is good but Audacity is near impossible to do multiple tracks on because they're all out of sync - or out of time - & how TF you align every track up by miliseconds???!!!! So definitely gotta get something new. (Plus I'm not sure about DAWs...they all cost money & quite a bit & I know nothing about them really.) So this os probably what I'll be getting.
The wav files of all my recent recordings are very low in volume when I listen to the audio on my computer. I want to eventually convert them to mp3’s but am not sure if they will be loud enough. How can I fix this?
Use the M12 built in NORMALISE option to increase the volume of each of the tracks required. In the future, make sure you record with enough gain, using the meters as a guide. Converting to MP3 will not help at all, it will only make it worse.
I've used Mixcraft Pro 9 and previous versions. Mixcraft developers really seem to not care about consumer's issues with their DAW and never keep the excitement of perhaps a newer improved Mixcraft at the forefront. I switched back to Cubase and also use Studio One. Mixcraft 9 makes my system use meter constantly increase. Can't even be frustrated about trying tascam with Mixcraft. Maybe If they release a newer version I'll hope they would be included in the big dog game.
Hi sir.....thnx for the video. Bought the model 12 2 days ago. I am learning to use it....If I have some multitracks and I want to mix them on my Tascam, How do I put them from my Mac into my Tascam? Via the storage (Usb Connection) and in MTR I have to create a new song and put the multi tracks in that map? Is that even possible? Thnx in advance 4 your time😊
The only current way to transfer audio stems from a DAW into M12 MTR is to set your DAW channel or bus outputs to M12 channels. Set the each channel Mode switch to PC. You need to create a new song project on M12 and record on the MTR. You can't simply copy the files from PC to M12 SD card.
@@RecordingStudio9 hi...I thibk you can...I just did it....I clicked on storage...open it on my Mac and then put some multi tracks in the music folder. Then on the M12 I went to import teacks....You have to make a new song and then you can import tgem to that song. Make sure they are mono or you will lose 2 faders on the M12....so now I have the multi tracks on my M12 and can mix it without using the Mac...✌🏽
Thanks for explaining that the model 12 also is a external hard drive✌️since I haven't found it yet explained in the paper manual that came with it... Furthermore I was confronted with the model 12 to use it as a send/return, but the send audio got caught up in a loop in any way I've tried. I've used aux1 out for sending and stereo return on Ch 7/8. In an other video I saw someone who had figured it out to and he uses a line signal level to instrument level converter. I only have it for a week or so now, so I am still in the learning stage so to say. Here is the video I saw on it: th-cam.com/video/DTzZCcr0kN4/w-d-xo.html I used a Behringer mixer that has a special send/return, so you can mix in any instrument on you effects with an external pedal board. Now I have coupled my Behringer xenyx x1222 to my Rødecaster pro and my Rødecaster sends the stereo signal to my Tascam model 12. I use 3 mixers because I have an awful lot of gear I need to connect and I don't want to reconnect and make adjustments all the time on my mixers. They are all connected via 2 stereo noise cancelling cables. The Tascam is the mixer/interface I use to connect to my PC where I use Studio One 5 professional.

WAV file don’t have compression. One of the reasons may be the sample rate or bit size. Which DAW are you importing into?

Thank you for posting. Very useful information!
Nice, I do think videos like this are helpful for users of the Model Series multi track recording mixers.
Glad to hear that!

Absolutely great tutorial! Thanks!!!
Thanks. I’ve been trying to figure that out! Btw your music was tight!
Glad I could help!
Great tutorial! Thank you
Thanks! Really good explanation.
Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant! Thanks!
You're welcome!
❤ thanks 🙏
You're welcome 😊
Hello, thank you for the tutorials. Can I use Audacity to edit my tracks?
Yes you can.
Great videos Thanks so much. Can you please make a video of HOW TO RECORD A SONG ON THE TASCAM ALONE? NOT using a computer please?🙏
There are a few videos out there already. Her's one you can watch th-cam.com/video/ZgdwWw8hMME/w-d-xo.html
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank you again.
Thanks!
No problem!

Watch my 4-part series on how to mix and export final mix stereo wav file.

If after watching all my videos on the TASCAM model 12 doesn’t help you, then you probably purchased the wrong one 😊

Reaper is a free DAW, just if you’d want to try it
@thrasherftw Reaper DAW is NOT free. It’s free to try. Don’t misuse the generosity 😏
