Megamind was really ahead of its time having an incel as the villain 💀
it's like saying Scott Pilgrim vs The World was ahead of it's time for having a simp as a protagonist and a progressive slut as a plot device
The OG
Cartoon? Sure. But plenty films have em.
Agreed 👍
Now everyone is one, guess we are all villains now!
Tighten is an example of how power doesn't change people but reveals deep down their true nature with what they do with that power.
Want to test a man’s character? Give him power.
-Abraham Lincoln…probably.
Money is often said it makes you more of what you are.
Soo...
Yup, same with Light Yagami on Death Note (another of my favorite of Vile Eye's Analyzing Evil videos). He was already a prideful, budding sociopath who saw himself above everyone else even before he got the titular notebook.
@@V4NowMoney can be a gateway to Power.
Fr. You agree?
Tighten : You're so pathetic! No matter what side you're on, you're always the loser!
Megamind : There's a benefit to losing: You get to learn from your mistakes.
Shows the fundamental difference between the 2, megamind recognizes his mistakes and learns from them while Hal only doubles down on his entitlement and lashes out.
Megamind eventually became a good man while Hal Will always remain a "Nice guy"
Good guy VS “nice” guy
Literally half of all villains should watch Megamind. So many never learn anything. They just keep being cruel and bitter.
Also, despite the fact megamind repeatedly kidnaps her, has her over a crocodile pit and near death machines, Roxanne NEVER feels scared of him or that she's in any real danger.
She knows its all for show / part of the super villain / hero / captive role play. If Megamind wanted to hurt her, he would. He actively makes sure she's safe. She snarks at him all the time and he snarks back but it's comfortable and has no threat of punishment for disagreeing.
Hal on the other hand? When he's flying her through the city? She's absolutely terrified. He's crossed boundaries before, ignored her autonomy and refuses to listen to her. That was when he was a normal guy.
Now he's super powered he is quite literally forcing her to go with him, scaring her into depending on him and the implied threat is clear: do what I want or you're dead.
@@kittikats I don't think Roxanne knows it's for show, not completely at least. She just knows that he never hurts her when using her as bait, and that everything always turns out fine in the end when Metroman saves the day. Her reaction to Megamind "killing" Metroman, taking over the city and his betrayal of her trust all give me the impression of someone who does think that there's evil in his core, rather than someone who thought it was all for show.
Way I see it while she was playing the game with them and probably knew it was just performative to some degree, she probably did think Megamind was actually evil on some level and was just too goofy and ineffective at being a villain to be a real threat up until Metroman "died".
Kind of like how in Invader Zim, Gaz doesn't care that Zim's an alien because he's just so bad at world domination that it doesn't concern her.
there is no Easter bunny. There is no tooth fairy, and there is no queen of England -Tighten.

No he's not. That was just a coincidence.
Megamind, as Space Dad, picked the name "Titan" for Hal's superpowered form because it invokes a sense of a being of godlike power, like Hal had become. However, many of the Titans are, in many versions of the Greek myth, described as beings of petty cruelty and selfish whim, which fits Hal's ultimately villainous attitude to a T. And with Hal thinking it's spelled "Tighten" is because he's an idiot, it's just as meaningful. "Tighten" means "to squeeze", which fits both his villainous goals - to force the world into giving him everything he feels he wants. Not to mention, Megamind wanted Hal to be a hero (Titan), but Hal himself perverts the concept into a supervillain (Tighten). Tighten is a perversion of Titan, both in name and concept.
Right on, professor
Actually it was the only name he could trademark
Good noticing
To a T.
Good one.
And taken down by their children, rather than taken down by their space dads.

when Tighten brings Roxanne the flower cart, he says he grabbed them all because he didn't know which ones she liked. This shows how he knows nothing personally about her, and he just assumes that women + flowers = get a date

The speculation about Hal being bullied as a kid/teen sounds like it would make a lot of sense. Especially since it would neatly parallel Megamind himself and how he was bullied as a kid in the opening of the movie.
But where as Megamind’s reaction to this treatment was to embrace the criminal tendencies he was raised into and become the supervillain society saw him as, Hal began to believe his treatment by his peers was because he was just a uniquely better person to everyone else around him. Leading to the brand of nice guy syndrome we see from Hal in the film that, ironically, made him a far more dangerous villain than Megamind ever could be (minus presentation, of course).
That's an interesting perspective. Hal may have suffered, but he wrongly believes suffering makes him entitled to whatever he wants.
"There is no Easter Bunny, there is no Tooth Fairy, and there is no Queen of England! "
It feels kinda weird to think this quote was at first a hilarious joke but now is just a mere redundant objective fact😅

the idea of him bullied at school makes me think how many develop Nice guy personalities because bullying goes so unchecked in school. staff does nothing and if you actually fight agaisnt the bully you get in trouble.
Common misconception, Being bullied in school is not a justification to spread misery and suffering. Being bullied by an a55hole doesn’t give a “be an a55hole free pass”
probably a couple, but by experience, you can also be bullied BECAUSE you present some nice guys traits in the first place. It's subtle of course, but the fact is, many bullied kids are not picked at random. As a matter of fact, in this very movie, Megamind was not bullied randomly, he was bullied because of how he (inadvertently) presented himself.
I remember, my class (we were students) were bullies against teachers, but not all of them. Only the most "bullyable" teachers were bullied. Same surely goes for kids, as I can truly understand why I was myself a little bullied
just want to say, no, I'm not saying people deserve to be bullied, I'm saying there's a reason they are

@sheila19954 I'm not sure I'd go so far as to call him a villain, but early-years Superman was an odd fellow.
One of the most realistic villains in media. I have never met someone like Palpatine in my entire life, but people like Tighten are quite abundant - minus the super powers. Though I bet a lot of people wouldn't be superman if they had powers, but more like Tighten.
Well to be fair, Palpatine was very good at hiding his true intentions and actions through the use of others, mostly actual good people. The reason we know of more Tightens is because they lack the charisma, maturity, and position of power to appear as the "Good guy". If Tighten had the aptitude of Palpatine he would be Homelander. 🦅
@@localvega688Palpatine even with no powers would still be a very capable and cunning politician, and he was a full on sociopath long before he ever joined the Sith
@@thesenate1844 That is my point. Aside from using his Sith powers to become chancellor, everything he has done was through political power.

💯💯👍
"The toughest thing about love is to realize that things that you love doesnt have to love you back", but anyway Hal never even bothered to trying to know how Roxanne was or what did she liked on men, like Gaston from Beauty and the Beast he just assumed that being bulky and strong would make her fall at his feet
Great video as usual
That thumbnail absolutely sent me. As for being bald, in my family on my father's side, the males in every other generation goes bald. My father's uncle had a completely hairless head by the time he was 18, and that guy's grandfather was bald at around 30. I am still blessed with an excess of glorious wavy locks at 25, but will no doubt lose my hair with time. Do not despair. Beneath each of our scalps- hairless or not- is the very spectre of the void itself: your skull, a reminder that even in death, humanity is beautiful. Truly, we are united in the inevitable. Let your dome be a shining reminder to all who gaze upon it- a symbol of the human spirit. Or something.

As a socially outcast boy, I sympathize a little with Hal when it comes to his desire to conquer Roxanne. Even so, my sympathy for him ends the moment he becomes a selfish, totalitarian sociopath. Too bad he never saw how wrong he was.
The end of the film showed that he is owning his villainy.
He’ll realize it…in prison.
a lot of us do, I think. There's a reason he was so requested.
Unfortunately many see anyone who relates to characters like this, and think ill of them.
I felt bad too but realized how stupid he was when any superficial woman besides Roxanne would totally dig him, he was too tunnelvisioned
The Vile Eye slowly losing his demonic possession over this host when his insecurities begin to affect him
Hal/Tighten was a fun villain despite his simplicity, as his lack of skill in his use of the powers adds to his intimidation level in a similar way to how Homelander from The Boys is (hopefully when the show ends, Vile eye does a video on him).
He also works as a cautionary tale that makes me eager to not become like him when I get to his age, hopefully that will age well.
Here rooting for ya kid, I always admired the youhger generation's eagerness to be better than the last.
The difference between Megamind and Hal is how we see their true colours when it comes to having so much power to do whatever they want once they have it, and their responses to it.
When Megamind has so much power over Metro City, he isn’t actually happy and satisfied with this life as a villain without someone trying to stop him. Meanwhile Hal enjoyed the thrill of being able to get away with doing whatever he wanted, and had no trouble throwing tantrums and hurting people if he can’t get what he wants from them.
Megamind was never evil by heart, unlike Hal who actually is.
I'm glad you covered Titan/Hal. He's definitely an unorthodox villain handled well.
Future ideas/ requests for future episodes of Analyzing Evil:

- Makuta Teridax or simply Makuta from BIONICLE Generation 1
- ZIM from Invader ZIM
- Nyarlathotep from The Cthulhu Mythos
He had the same super speed as Metroman but he didn't even knew abt it. The fact that he's an idiot with super powers is another scary element of his character
I would also like to add that the movie gives us some hidden clues that Tighten/Hal will be the antagonist during one scene Minion states that Hal has never accomplished anything another scene when they break into his apartment, he says that the lady across the hall has way better stuff than him and during a scene with him and Roxanne, he’s wearing a shirt that says game over Megamind and Metro man fights we’re all just a game to Megamind but when he fights Tighten he says game over and he’ll send them to the morgue not jail Metro man fought with restraints but Tighten fought with no restraints and intends to kill
Fun fact his name comes from DC comics green lanterns. Hal Jordan and John Stewart both are noted for being courageous and strong willed. To the point Hal Jordan and make a green lantern ring out for will power and John using mutiple rings to contain his power.
Just imagine what his oath would be. His power ring would likely be an engagement ring he bought for Roxanne. 💍
Oh god if Hal got a Lantern Ring he's probably gonna have the Red Wrath Ring. Anyways if he ever had a Lantern Ring Megamind would've perished.
it starts getting ridiculous(even for comics when hal jordan overpowers all the will power (either in universe or multiverse) with his own will power meaning he has more will power than himself
@@IAmBored347 Red is a maybe but I think Hal would be better suited for an Orange ring (Greed). His desire is to posses many things: Money, bikes, Roxanne. He only goes into his rage after the one "Thing" he cannot posses tells him "No".

Really like the sentiment at the end. Backstories are an explanation, not a justification. A messed up past can make you more sympathetic for someone who commits evil, but it doesn’t take the blame away from them.

It’s hard to make the “There Is No Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy & Queen Of England line” both hilarious and downright terrifying at the same time.
Tighten is the Syndrome of Dreamworks.
Btw: A Perfect Analysing Evil episode would be “Bojack Horseman” from the Bojack Horseman series. Seriously He’s like an animated Walter White.
I won't lie. Tighten is the kind of villain one can relate and sympathies with in many ways. After all, he was bullied and cast off for his nerdy, awkward self, something everyone had experienced in their youth. And the only escape he had from those awful realities was to retreat to movies, TV shows, comics, video games, and the internet for comfort. In some way, I kind of relate to that.
And him turning bad when being turned into someone with superpowers was the result of all that anger and hate bottled-up within him from the years of torment and rejection he endured just because of his nerdy self. If only he had better support and help from his family and friends, and never had his body altered by Mega Mind to be a new superhero, then he probably would not have turned evil.

I think it's worth mentioning that Roxanne didn't find Metro Man attractive. Despite him having the stereotypical masculine traits Hal believes all women want. Instead, she likes Megamind and his human form Bernard, who are more lanky and nerdy. Not to mention the "villain". Despite or maybe even because of this, Hal calls Bernard an intellectual dweeb. Him being nerdy and not having a chad physique didn't ruin his chances with Roxanne. His cringe personality did.
Your dead pan delivery of school and Metrocity were perfect
I think Tightens biggest problem when it comes to the opposite sex is that (like you rightly said) he expects love because he isn't actively bad. He has no desire to better himself (be interested in someone else's feelings that don't relate to him is a start) and when he is given superpowers, he tried to be Metroman. He sees Metromans powers and confidence as what interested Roxanne rather than his personality on top of the superficial stuff. It's the hyper focus on the superficial that is a trap for "nice guys". He is obsessed with a woman he shares nothing in common with, rather than tidy up is negative traits and try to meet someone like minded. He has to have the popular guys girl because by default he's no longer a loser

I think the biggest difference between Megamind and Tighten, is that Megamind was more of a tragic anti-hero than a villain, whereas Hal was a ticking timebomb and an incel
Megamind was raised by criminals who taught him the wrong things and took advantage of his powerful intelligence and talent for inventing. Though he wanted so badly to be accepted by society but his rivalry with Metro-man hindered that so he just gave in and became a bad guy.
Hal proved to be more dangerous and used his superpowers for his own selfish gain. Maybe he was bullied as a kid, got shot down by all the ladies, or was just simply screwed over one too many times, and decided "to hell with it, I'm practically a god now. I'm taking what's mine!" and to quote Abraham Lincoln, "If you really want to test a man's character, give the man power".
Another interesting difference is that despite Megamind kidnapping Roxanne over a hundred times, she never really was in danger, almost like Megamind was just bluffing and never really wanted to hurt anyone. Tighten however was more than willing to leave Roxanne tied up on top of a crumbling building, and put thousands of lives at risk.
MegaMind was raised as a criminal by criminals and still is less evil than an incel.
That Abraham Lincoln quote is soooo true💯💯💯

An interesting part of the movie that I think a lot of people might miss because it comes across as a funny joke actually sets up exactly what kind of person he would become. When Megamind and Minion break into his apartment to give him the powers, Hal believes they are robbing him and encourages them to rob the person Across from him because they have nicer stuff. I find it interesting how they chose the name "Hal Stewart..." Because lets be real, that DEFINITELY sounds like the kind of name you'd expect a comic book hero to have.
its a combination of the first and third Green Lantern's names. Hal Jordan and John Stewart
“When he was in shewl” was a great reference 😂
Analysing evil: 28 days later, Elder Elijah, Wolf of wall street
Are you nice because you care about someone or are you nice because you're trying to get something from them?
It’s funny that you mention that Hal understands “he’s the one at fault when it comes to wooing Roxy.”
Because in the original deleted scene, he blamed HER for not reciprocating his attempts at gaining her affection.
I mean, that's typical incel behavior, right?
@@weirdguy1495laid it on to thick imo I think it’s better to give him some self awareness of how much of a loser he is at the beginning makes the scene of him getting pissed when he is rejected a second time after gaining powers better
Villains you could analyze for your videos:
1. Heathcliff from wuthering heights
2. Bayaz from the first law series
3.Sand Dan Glokta from the first law series
Honestly, he should just do the whole First law Series

Next vid: Analyzing the team behind Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate.
moral behind that film even Know you've redeemed yourself and fixed your life up sadly the things in the past is never going to be left alone and there no such thing as a clean slate
S-tier, higher than Morgoth immediately.
@@comicbookreviewer4856 No, the moral of the story is to *use the dehydration gun*!
He talks about evil, but never about things THAT evil
A bit of trivia;
"Tighten" is British slang in the Northern part of the country referring someone to be Tight.
Tight as in mean & nasty! & HOO-BOY does Hal become that when he doesn't quite get what he wants!
I just thought about this now, I love this movie but I never realized the parallels between MegaMind and Tighten. Both were considered the Nerds in school, both seemed to be raised in bad environments at home (MegaMind Prison and Tighten's lack of parents in the movie imply maybe a bad home life). And to a certain level thats the reason why MegaMind chooses Hal to be the next MetroMan. The similarities between the 2 are uncanny. Megamind probably saw himself in Hal. And thats why during the montage they actually kinda felt like a family and very close friends. So why did both these very similar characters have different outcomes.
I think it simply comes down to this, Hal sought power, MegaMind sought purpose. And I think thats the whole point of the movie.
I think in a different what if scenario when Tighten went rouge Megamind considered giving himself metro mans powers to defeat him. But instead MegaMind didn't do that because he knew the battle would just cause mass destruction over the city (kinda like man of steal) instead he dressed up as the ultimate hero "MetroMan" in order to scare Hal off from metropolis. Because Megamind knew thats what he would do if he had powers because he is so similar to Hal. I could go into more detail but ima let it sit here.
Crazy to think dreamworks could fit SO MUCH WRITING in a movie that is 1h and 35min long. There are still deepers meanings in this film I am finding today and I have been watching these analysis videos for nearly 5 years at this point. And there is still more to learn from the movie. 10/10 movie, certainly one of the most underrated films of past 2 decades. Maybe we will get a proper 2nd installment but if we never do sometimes it is best to admire a masterpieces for what it is.
It’s funny I was gonna request Tighten, but you already made a video on him. Thanks. Great job! 👍
YES! FINALLY TIGHTEN FROM MEGAMIND! YES!
Great channel. Since people do requests I’ll stick my hand in pile:
1.Million knives
2.Revolver Ocelot
3.Sosuke Aizen
4.Pain
5.Amanda Waller DAU
Since you did Titan/Tighten, you should do Homelander. He's terrified so many viewers so much they feel uneasy whenever he's on screen. He's a perfect candidate for another Analyzing Evil video
Yay!! I love the intro. Best of both worlds. Amazing video as always.
So fascinating to analyze this Singulair move. To bad the only expansion to the series was the short, button of doom. Hopefully one day we get a sequel that continues the story.
Dennis from Always Sunny would be such a good pick
analyzing evil Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz
One of the smaller but scarier details of the movie is when Hal tells Roxanne he's having a party at his 'house' with a DJ and bouncy castle, then later we see he lives in an apartment that's way too small to host a party in and he's clearly too broke to host a party in the first place. What the hell was he gonna do with her if she got in the van with him then and there?
Good question. That’s probably one of those things that the movie being “for kids/families” saved us from.
That is a good point. My guess is that his intent was to flex his "Wealth" to get her there and then to say "Well actually we WERE going to go to my actually house but (Insert excuse), so we can just chill on the couch and watch a movie I like. He would then proceed to do many yawn and stretches and sit way too close to her. 😍🤮
Have you considered he knew it wouldn't work but still said it to make himself sound like a big deal?
@@HughAverageHomoMan That would be an incel thing to do. 🚗💰🏡🤡
Love your videos, Vile. Keep up the good work.
Say what you will about Hal, he wanted to avenge his "Space Stepmom" for being lied to! Loved your use of Megamind's malapropisms too!

Hal is the best depiction of an incel in movie history and considering the fact that "Megamind" is a kids' movie and came out in 2010, it's impressive and kind of crazy to think about.
I think what makes Hal/Tighten stand out as a portrayal of incels is the intentional lack of pathos. Having spoken to a few of the sad bastards, I can honestly say that most incels are shallow and boring, and since Hollywood seems to require all "troubled loner" characters to be sympathetic, it sort of misses the mark as far as incels go. Also, the fact that Tighten is a supervillain is spot on for how so many incels both see themselves and act like online.
Tighten is essentially the PG version of Homelander from the Boys.
He's Homelander if he didn't care about his image. 🔥
Take being called Megamind as a compliment! Megamind is adorable and has giant awesome robots.
There's a quote in the new MK1 game I think applies to Hal
Scorpion: Absolute power has corrupted you
Omniman: Power doesn't corrupt, it enables
Hal was harmless before because he was just a socially awkward dude too stupid to realize he was the problem. Once he got his powers and his Titan/Tighten persona he's been enabled to act out his worst desires, which include almost kidnapping Roxanne and burning Metro City(the city that doubtless he blames for his life in some way) to the ground
Guess you'll have to cover an analyzing evil on Megatron from Transformers
Can you make a video on the Tannen family from Back to the Future?
