    I've used the repeater book several times but never really understood very well how to use it this way; your video really made a huge difference in my skill set. Thank you very much and I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas from North Pole, Alaska de AD7VV

      That’s great! As the site goes through upgrades and changes, my video might need updating some day. Really glad to hear it was helpful, it’s how I program all my radios now 😎 Merry Christmas!

    Yes sir I am new to the Ham radio world. I just bought a new UV-5R 8w. And I live in the corinth- Booneville area. I really want to learn all that i can so i can get my license to talk on it. It would be great if I talk to someone in my area to help me with all of this.

      Thanks for the comment Shawn! The information is user/community driven, so if you come across tones or anything that needs changed you can submit the info. There is currently a big push most of us state admins are doing to clean up and validate the listings. Merry Christmas 73

      Thank you so much for your reply. I greatly appreciate your help and time. I bought a UV-5R 8w and a 49 inch folding tactical antenna with a 15.5 inch antenna as well. I got this for SHTF or emergency type situation. I'm currently looking at all of the information that I can to get started on it. Would it be a problem if I contact you if I have any questions about it.

      @@K5YVY to be honest, I don’t have any Bfang radios. I use repeaterbook along with RT systems, programming software. To automate the download and program my radios easily.

      I am running into a problem as I just got RTSystems software for my THD-74 today, and the software requires a ".thd74" format but the export file is a ".tab" file and the two do not appear to be compatible with each other.

    • @mattlewandowski73
      @mattlewandowski73 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well for those of us new to RTSystems software, I discovered that it is FAR easier than this video's procedure. Simply going into File, then External Data, it offers a repeaterbook search and import. I simply told it to search for my TH-D74's bands (2/1.25/.7) and a radius of 75 miles, and it populated a page with the data for me.

    • @K5YVY
      @K5YVY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Some kenwood models is suggested to use the TravelPlus export which gives you a .tpe extension. If this still isn’t usable for you I can only recommend at the bottom of the export drop down menu select Report Issue and maybe they can add .thd74 option.

    • @K5YVY
      @K5YVY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for adding that info, I have no experience with RTsystem software so your information will be helpful to someone else that comes across it.

    This is awesome. I am new to all this, bought a andytone 878 and I can't hear crap lol...thinking about sending it back and getting something simple. any advice on that? thanks for this video!

    • @K5YVY
      @K5YVY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome aboard! The AnyTone 878 is a great and popular radio, wish I had gotten one. They fact that your not hearing anything may not have nothing to do with the radio, but simply the lack of activity in your area. If you are Licensed for ham radio you could program in local repeaters and transmit you callsign out , if you hear the repeater "tail" after you unkey then the repeater and your radio is working just fine, there just isn't anyone else in the area talking back.
      If you don't have local activity in your area, then a great solution with that radio is to get a MMDVM hotspot such as a complete kit on amazon like this ( amzn.to/3wXgFLY ) or one that will suit your budget/needs, then with a WiFi connection you could talk the world with that radio. TheSmokingApe youtube channel has many great videos on these MMDVM hotspots.

    How can I change the names of the repeaters to something that indicates the repeaters location within the 75 mile radius? As opposed to merely a call sign. If I'm driving around the 75 mile area I want to know which repeater I'm closest to. Thanks 73 kf0alt

    • @K5YVY
      @K5YVY  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Repeaterbook choices are frequency, callsign, or landmark or city believe. You can export by distance but Further customizing will need to be done by you in your programming software to my knowledge.

    When I try to upload to radio it is greyed out and will not upload. Did I do something wrong?

    • @K5YVY
      @K5YVY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like your referring to your radio's programming software? There may be other settings you might need to complete or If you haven't, make sure to read the radio first with your programming software then import the information from repeaterbook and write to radio.

      You came to the right place for average Joe lol. Recording is scheduled for Sunday Evening and will take a couple days for editing. If you would, could you reply back with a few specific things you would like to see if any, or just general programming and options? I’ll only have this radio once on loan for this video🫣 and want to make sure I try to tackle what you want.
