I've read the manual but nothing in the instructions make me laugh, so I'm just gonna keep watching your content for the Info and the chuckles!
I thank you for your teachings. I will patiently await my certificate to hang on my refrigerator so that I may prove to my family that I am not a loser.
Thank you! Absolutely loved your instructions. I will now stop looking at my new GMRS radio, stroking it and marveling at it and I will now USE it!! Thanks again.
I stumble on you channel a few years ago and you explained how you setup your first repeater. You made it simply easy set one up pretty much like you first one out of KG 1000's works heart and I thank you for sharing you knowledge.
Have watched so many of your videos over the last 2 weeks my wife recognized your voice.😂 Just bought my first radio 3 days ago and received my GMRS license yesterday. Thank you sir.
Great video. Even after a year or so programming these I catch myself second guessing some of the things you covered. Thanks for the quick reference video.

I was already a GMRS Repeater expert before your training session as I had stayed at a HOLIDAY INN a few decades back and am certified expert in all fields now!
Thank you for making it easier to digest this information. Keep it coming!
You are definitely one of a kind Randy....please don’t change...😎
I have learned a lot from you and mainly cause you don’t bore me. . Thanks.

and thank you...
As always, a useful and helpful video!
One thing I have never understood, is the repeater owners who require a tone to access the repeater (actually a smart thing), but somehow lacked that extra thirty seconds it would have taken them to program that tone on the output so that end users can set their tone decoders (on receive) and keep noise and other stations from opening their squelch and annoying them while monitoring that repeater.
Seriously?
Then there are the owners who set their repeaters so that there is zero hang time. Hang time is that brief time after you, or anyone else using the repeater, unkeys their PTT and the repeater keeps transmitting. Most repeaters have 1 to 3 seconds of hang time. Hang time allows you to 1) know that you hit the repeater, and
2) judge about how strong the repeater is reaching your radio and relatively speaking, how you might be hitting the repeater.
One well-known GMRS dealer I know of went to the trouble and expense of setting up a repeater. For reasons known only to them, they did not program it to encode a tone on the output. Worse still, they did not have any hang time at all on the repeater. People would drive into the area, try to use the repeater, and hear nothing. They either assumed they were not in range or that the repeater was down. I don't know if they were playing a stupid game with their end-users and customers or they just didn't know any better.
I will say such sloppy programming would make me unlikely to buy a repeater from them or have them program a repeater for me.
Best how to I've seen on repeaters hands-down!
Thank you for this video!! I'm connected to a repeater!! YeeeHaw! All of your videos are super informative!! I'm now a legit Dork! Pretty cool stuff!
Keep up the good work!!
LOL..... this channel is GOLD! Best of youtube!
I just got myself another TH-cam certification. Thanks Randy..!
This is great. I got baofeng ham and after watching you I have a couple of gmrs ones coming even got a lic. I’m gonna set em up. I’m in the valley doubt I’ll hit anything but will be good for when I’m out.
Watched a lot of your videos. Thanks for your time and great content to help us Noobies on gmrs topics
Thank YOU!

The BEST video on this
Thanks!
Thank you for explaining this
Thanks a ton for the info on the RX tone! I received access to a repeater and (before watching this very video), put the same tone in for TX and RX. I requested a repeater check and heard no reply. I have since de-confuckulated my programming error and now have crystal clear, 2-way capability of said repeater....!
This video is great to put on repeat.
Great video. Appreciate your content!!!
My favorite You Tuber...
Randy I noticed a lack of a wrist strap on the WOUXON. As you are well aware, this violates FCC regulations.
I am a slave to NO agency!
Huh?
We are the same age. 62 in July. Very cool.
I have st purchased my license and waiting on the FCC to send me the call sign and then I'm going to order a radio. I will need to know how to connect to a repeater. We have a few about 50 miles from me and 40 miles in another direction. Open Repeaters are listed near me close enough I should be able to do so.
Tha ks Randy.
Super helpful Info
Thanks for the Great Info.
Thanks for another easy to watch video.
Thank you I now understand 48% more than I did before watching this video.
I believe it was 49%
I had a thought this morning that made me laugh. Your content should be download and archived in the event of an apocalypse. Imagine a class full of children being educated by your videos😂😂 the future world would be a much funnier place😂😂😂

Thank you for another great video. I’ll be waiting for my certificate 😂
Awesome video Thanks

i have a radio that NAR says i'm wasting my time trying to program so i was leaving BUT, i saw your bashful complaint and though you weren't amusing the replies from the unbashful subscribed are hilarious SOOO! thx steve for the laughs i had, not from you but because of you thanks!!! Steve! I'm off now to rub my UV 5r on a body part so as to find a use for it!
Thank you for your videos - you take what can be a very dry topic and make it fun. My wife has become even more interested in radios now than me. As for this video, can you advise how to set up a repeater when the Tone in/out is just listed as HZ without a DPL or CTCSS code? Please see the Bucks 550 repeater in PA for the example I'm looking at. Thanks again!
Funny and informative. Thanks.
Randy , since I have a UV-5R Ham radio. Like you said I'll go treat my self with a frosty Ice cone. Needless to say , I find your videos very interesting and educational. That I'll watch your video with a frosty treat and learn something new. Thank you and God Bless.

"Some people" need an app to read as they no longer can do anything without an app to do it for them, but you did your best Randy and that is all anyone can do in this age of stupidity! The age of stupidity is much like the "dark ages" of long ago, what goes around comes around.

PLEASE!!!! Now make a video on how to program a REPEATER
Famous quote..."I am an Engineer! I do not need to read directions."
Our local GMRS repeater (in the West Ga. Area) is privately owned. And I think it states it is open for public use. I think he prefers users to join His Club, pay a hefty users fee! But I think this club owns multple repeaters, all linked up for an almost statewide system! So I do see why there is a hefty fee.
I think we share the same area.
Best hand modeling on the internets
New to gmrs would like to see a video on programing a uv-9g for repeaters.
🇺🇸Good Vid Randy👍Roger Dee Cup-O -Tee Good Buddy By Golly for Sure.
Just to add confusion, the DCS tones are either 'N' *normal* or 'I' *Inverted*. I discovered on my Wouxon KG805G that only the 'I' tones are available in the radio menu. Enabling the use of the 'N' tones required using the factory software and a programming cable. Just FYI.
Heeeeeyyyyyy.... this guy knows when to use "supposably" and "supposedly" in their correct context. Nice.
This video causes spurious emissions 🐸👍
I have learned a lot from your videos and I thank you for your service.
However I have a question about radio selection? You said that you must have a GMRS radio to be able to program in a repeater. I have a Radioddity GS-5B and a Radtel RT470 both radios have the tone settings that you speak of. If I cannot use these radios on a GMRS repeater. Then why can they be programmed to use on a GMRS repeater?
You need a GMRS radio to use a GMRS repeater without breaking the FCC rules. Ham radios use ham repeaters and most will not transmit to GMRS repeaters, but those that do would break the rules.
The local repeater group I'm a part of, has a linked repeater system, it reaches as far southwest as Florida. Not bad for a GMRS repeater. I have to pay $35 a year, but that's reasonable, I don't mind paying it to help maintain the repeater.
I live in Tampa. Does the repeater reach down here?
Thanks for the video, def it helps. Im trying to set up GMRS repeater on Baofeng uv 5G,
local repeater info
462.725 MHz
Frequency
241.8 Hz
Input Tone
192.8 Hz
Output Tone
Could you do video on the set up for this, on a UV 5G.
I am almost there I think. Im getting the. " kick back " when I key the mike, but verbal is not coming through. I think offset is wrong maybe ?
Great video! Where can I purchase the radio? It is not on your equipment list. Thank you. Keep up the great work.

Does the refrigerator certificate have a gold star?
Hey Randy, where can I get the gertex7000u programming software?
I expected to be taught how to program a repeater from my radio, as the video promised. But nope. I didn’t hear anything that would let me do that. I will still need to drag a laptop and programming cable out to the repeater and program it with software the regular way. Would love to be able to do that work from the radio. Maybe someday.
I am unsad but I do find it difficult to find the transmit tones different repeaters use. Many seem to keep it secret and/or not published at least for the few repeaters in the Milwaukee area.
I'm in NorCal - I am confukulated with the repeaters and their duplicated channels? I get the FARS, but as you are moving, and your channels are pre-set, how do you utilize the duplicated 462.550 for NorCal, and then in SoCal? Chirp list has FRS first, then GMRS, then GMRS-550/15R - Trying to set a multitude of family gmrs radios.
Another question for you if you dont mind. What is the difference between the Scan that you have by long pressing 1 on the keypad and the scan that you get with long pressing 3 on the Keypad, and what situation would you use each of those for?
I filled the condom but my wife said no. Still shopping for that mobile radio though. I found a video where you said you were using a motorola xts5000, but no explanation as to what attracted you to that one. Seems like the KG 1000G does all the things, so I assume I missed something. Thanks for this one. Entertainment as always.
The XTS5000 and XTL5000 both do encryption..
Tell your wife to give me a call, i'll set her straight.
No GMRS repeaters nearby, but I'm still here for the T-shirt and background screen. ... And I might accidentally learn something.
"Frosty Jim..." 😆😆😆
QUESTION...on my gmrs I have the tones for a particular channel. On repeater book, tgat same gmrs channel has the tone and seems to have an offset freq. Do gmrs repeaters use or need offsets???
GMRS always has a built-in/automatic offset of +5Mhz for a repeater. on a real GMRS radio you just have to figure out which repeater channel it is based on the frequency and then enter the tone.
I have a question unrelated to this particular video.
Is there a gmrs radio to mount in my vehicle that will automatically come on when I turn on my vehicle like cb radios did? I currently have the b tech gmrs 50.
You are correct, that question is unrelated to this video!

Channels 15-22-repeater Channels- then you say I believe! Channels 23 through 30 repeater channels as well (concerning tone SETTINGS) Looking for Repeaters! A little confused my friend!
*can you help me out with this problem my friend?
*I do have a gmrs license wrqy733
Ps- I did try to find a school here in Boston Massachusetts to learn with hands on! I could learn this much, much! Faster!! But had no luck at all, Jason!!
*well , Thanks For Listening, My Friend!!
Channels 23-30 are the repeater channels that you use when using/transmitting on a repeater.
Channels 15-22 are SHARED with the repeater channels - Watch this video for more details: -- > th-cam.com/video/3PBZYCjNAoc/w-d-xo.html
PS: Nobody cares that you have your GMRS license, and no need to ever post it online.
Question. I have the Midland mxt275 and can not transmit onto a repeater. I turned repeater mode on and put in the right Ctss , etc. I still can't transmit. I can hear others though. Am i screwing up or does the Midland mxt275 not transmit to repeaters? Thank you for the time if read this
Yes, the midland transmits to transmitters..
CONFIRM you are in repeater mode
CONFIRM you are on the right repeater channel
CONFIRM you have the correct tone, set as the TRANSMIT tone
CONFIRM you are within range of the repeater
CONFIRM it is actually the repeater you are hearing and not just people talking on simplex
IF everything is confirmed, then either your radio is defective, or you did something wrong. and I doubt the radio is defective.
@TheNotaRubicon thanks a bunch and fast reply. I don't listen to those "some people" about you.
Frosty Jim 😂😂
Hello i dont know what im doing wrong your video is very clear in how to program a repeater...i still can mine to connect..pls help..i have a baofeng GMRS-9R with 1-8 repeatable channels
1) make sure you are on the correct repeater channel
2) make sure you have entered the correct TRANSMIT tone/code
3) to reduce issues/variables, REMOVE the RECEIVE/RX tone/code - this is optional and can cause problems if you do it wrong
4) make sure you are IN RANGE of the repeater & transmit
..if you do all those things right, and still cannot connect, then either you are doing it wrong or your radio is defective.. and I doubt your radio is defective.
Ok here is the repeater info
462.575
Input Tone 074Dpl
Output tone 074DPL
THIS is a baofeng gmrs 9r
I tried to program it on repeater2 channel
This is what I'm doing

Randy! Where has the music in your videos gone?
I have a booF,wang UV5-something GMRS radio is that the same I'm here in San diego can I connect to Palomar Mt? If I can how do I do the do to connect...LOL.
If it says "GMRS" then it is a GMRS radio. I dont know if you can connect to Palomar Mountain or not, you are the only person that can answer that question.
@@TheNotaRubicon pass this question over to Deadhead Dave. He loves those folks down in San diego
@craigdavidson2977 Is that a sarcastic answer cuz it's all about the 619 Playettes and Playahs LoL...
I printed my certificate and put it in the passenger window of my Buick. That way, when I park sideways at Walmart and take up two handicapped spots, people can see it more clearly and they will respect me.
How about a video about linking gmrs repeaters together ?
If I don't get the kerchunk but hear repeaters clearly I just need to use a better antenna or more powerful radio? Would that be a good assumption?
Statistically, the most likely thing is that you are using the wrong tone/have the repeater set up incorrect in your radio. Assuming you have everything set right, then a better/higher antenna will do you more good than just more power.
You might be on fequency mode not repeater channel 462xxx . I think that is my problem too.
Shib nu to the 🌝🌙🌝🌝 i got uv 5 r 😊🎉 got my call sign too hello from Oregon 😊
Hi there, so is not possible to use a GFRS repeater with the Baofeng UV 5HR? I suppose that would mean that the frs and gmrs capability is limited to walkie talkie or direct one to one use I should say.
UV 5R *
It's a ham radio, and probably locked, so, no.
@@TheNotaRubicon Hi for GMRS on a UV5R if I know the receive tone, the transmit tone is plus 5 more correct?
I am using the chirp to program a gmrs repeater and I put it in the receive tone aka tone sql column. With plus 5 of my receive tone of 156.7, Chirp doesn't give me an option to put that amount in the tone column aka transmit column. Would all I need to do in this case is put the duplex + and put the offset for 5.000000? Closest thing to 161.7 is 162.2 in the tone column. Also on my UV5R it reads at the top +- when I am on channel mode for that repeater. The R-CTCS and T-CTCS are the same number when I look as well through the menu. Is this correct or does the T-CTCS number need to be different to transmit on the repeater?
Thanks!
can you show how to do this on a BaoFeng UV5R i feel like im missing something
Could you repeat it?
We need to have Beers & Pretzels. Hahahaha
What is going on with your tabs :D got me cackling in my house
An Idea comes to mind. Just post an image for the CHIRP software with the Ranchino settings for users to copy onto their CHIRP then to their GMRS radio. 🤔
I just got a Baofeng Uv-5g and a rt97 repeater and when I try to out the ctcss code of the repeater into the radio it doesn’t save? What do I do? I even programmed with chirp.
There are only two possibilities:
1) you are doing it wrong
2) the radio is defective
....i doubt the radio is defective.
@@TheNotaRubiconActually nothing saves in the radio at all. The Uv-5r it does. If I could somehow send you a video I would.
are you in Channel mode?
@@TheNotaRubicon I know this is a stupid question but if it saves in frequency mode that’s completely different from channel mode? I wanted to display the name on the radio but I guess I have to just not choose a ctcss code or does it carry over? I’m new to this and trying to figure some of this out.
Scanning GMRS channels with my bwufwang only gives me occasional static. If I knew there was much traffic (or any traffic at all) I would buy a GMRS radio and get a license. I am in Temple, Texas. Perhaps I don't know how to properly scan those channels with my bwufwang radio.
GMRS is not really for scanning or finding/talking to strangers. GMRS is primarily intended for communicating with family/your group of others that also have GMRS radios.
@@TheNotaRubicon Thanks for the clarification.
If you have two repeaters in your area that are both on the same frequency (462.600). However, they have different input tones. Is there a way to put both repeaters into the GMRS radio? In this example, 462.600 correlates to channel 17 or repeater 3. However both repeaters can’t be on channel 17. How do or can you put both repeaters into a GMRS radio?
You can do this on most (but not all) GMRS radios. You have to create and save the repeater settings a new channel, with with different tones. .So one would be channel 17, the other might be channel 34. .OR, you could make one of them channel 34, and the other one channel 35.. or 92, or 875.
Thank you very much!
Not cool, Rando the most intellectual repeater rasta.
