So much wisdom from Mike! When our 2nd daughter graduated we struggled with what to do with her. She had gone to a "college prep" school and all her friends were heading off to expensive colleges, half of them having no idea what they even wanted to major in. But their parents were trained that college is the pathway to success and additionally "the college experience" was important to them. Ugh. I wanted my kid as far away from the college experience as possible. I really wasn't keen on spending north of $80k to have her lose her faith, integrity and world view. We opted to get her into a program that was 3 years, she could live at home, it would cost $15k and she would come out as a physical therapist assistant. Started at $60k. Her supervising PTs (who went to medical school to the tune of over $100k) started at around $85k and she did almost the same work they did, home visits, with their oversight. Meaning they set up the diagnosis, set up the care plan and she implemented it. I remember feeling so foolish and somewhat embarrassed (she did, too) when she told her classmates and parents her plans at graduation. We had family members tell us "she worked too hard in school to just go to a community college"
Now she's a SAHM that can afford to be home with her baby because she's debt free. Many of her friends are putting off families because they can't afford it. She's loving her life and she has a skill she can go back to when she's ready.

Mike Rowe is the perfect example of Romans Chapter 1; Here’s a man who has access to scientists and information we don’t have and doesn’t see the hand of God in His Creation.
- Rowe says that being sure puts you in a box. Actually it’s just the opposite, knowing the truth through faith and reading God’s revelation to man, the Bible, actually makes you sure of the Truth - That it’s God and only God which makes the universe work and holds it together.
I agree with you 100%, he tiptoes around the acceptance of God as our creator. Actually what I heard him say is that "using the word "only" puts you in a box".... and the "only" they were speaking of here is the one and only God, as creator of all things. See time stamp at 38:52
He prefaced that statement with, “My friends in the science world…” It sounded like he was giving their argument to Allie’s conviction. I agree with dddiaz-velez3630 that he seems to tiptoe around his faith. I know he was raised in the church and he has said that he is “less concerned with what people say they believe and more concerned with what they actually do about it” (which sounds a lot like faith without works is dead). He has also said that that is the reason he keeps his personal faith personal.
Does "Choose your own adventure" have anything to do with education? Like personal motivation to pursue self education and advancement, by self or by guidance of parents, guardians or otherwise?
Not sure how many kids want to know what to grow up to. For me, asked "where do you see yourself in 5 years.". Every time I answered that question I was able to accomplish in under 1 year. But I can't really relate to others that seem their biggest accomplishment is to get stoned and play video games. Or complain about how their work sucks while they work (but that was at my old house living somewhere else long ago)...{Smile)...
Good things come to those who wait. Presenting options and having access to them is a good idea. Ones who are exceptional get recognized when they are loved.....
I was told by man had his job maybe during the 60's and 70's. They didn't need a 4 year college course to weld steel, be a copper pipe plumber. A press brake operator takes a few hours to train maybe.
So what is the purpose of delaying someone's life with 4 years of filler when they could just do the job training and start working specific within maybe a month or less? Their skills can advance moving up to promotions.
Women go to college 6 years. Start working get pregnant then it's all overr they gave to raise the children.... So the disguise and deception was being mislead into a fake promise known to statistically fail and it continued......
Life and time is precious. We need to live what we do, our families and be happy in our lives. We feel healthy and not sick when doing stuff that isn't forced by some mortal sin against good conscious.

I went to a technical high school instead of a the high school in my town. I never really liked the fact that i went to a technical high school because i wanted to a normal high school student. Now, that i’m 23, I realized that having a technical education was worth it. There are so many options when going to a tech high vs a normal high school. The trades will never go out of style.

My school told me I will be great or nothing but I had to go to college. I went into the Navy with scores that I could do anything. My recruiter was pushing me to go into Nuclear Tech, well I ended up being a firefighter. Loved it and now I am a truck driver and love it and I am making more than most of my high school friends and have a life I love with no debt.

Junior year of high school a guidance counselor walked into my English class and spoke to us about choosing a career. He said, and I quote this exactly because I remember it like it was yesterday-“If you’re not going to be a doctor, lawyer, or engineer you might as well forget it.” I was stunned at his stupidity. Immediately my mind filled with all of the jobs and careers going on right where we were in the two tiny halls of our small school. My own guidance counselor told me I wasn’t smart enough to go into the field I was interested in. Perhaps not, but where would that path have led as I followed it? I’ll never know. Such pitiful “guidance”…

Luke 21:28 God told us what to look for just before Christ's return. So, we do have an idea of how close His return is. My youngest son is starting trade school in July, I am so proud of him!! I have one son in college and one son going into trade school and I am equally proud of both of them for figuring out what they are passionate about and going for it 🎉
I dropped out of HS at 16. God blessed me with many amazing jobs over the years, I worked hard and worked my way to the top earning more than many I knew graduated from college. I decided to change careers, got my GED at 33 and started working for State Gov. I now am in my 19th year with State gov and the position I currently hold requires a Masters degree which I do not have, but God can do anything if we submit to his will. He allowed me to work my way up here as well.
i didnt drop out of HS, but i was the 1st to graduate from HS in my home and go to technical HS, university during HS program and medical college afterwards... my current job also requires a BA or Masters but my many years of experience, job ethics and hard work.... with the help of my Lord & Saviour have allowed me to be in the position I am in today earning a comfortable salary & pension past retirement. My experience is valued/considered in place of degree. I've also been able to instill some valuable principles onto my adult kids-- all of which are in the medical field like me-- my youngest is 24, ahead of most of her HS classmates, in her 2nd year of her biomed PhD and will graduate with a great income paying job AND debt free! She had scholarships and amazing opportunities. Her PhD program in Boston is paying her a good comfortable stipend. All to the glory of God!

In 1969 and being a roughneck on a drilling rig I was making good money. When the rig was down, no work. Vietnam also had plans for me. I had NO desire for college even though I scored high in the tests to go. I decided to join the Air Force Reserves. The tests for the Air Force, I scored high on them also. The had a brand new career field, Non-Destructive Inspection. They sent me to a very technical school. It progressed with new technologies and was always challenging. I wound up with the highest level in the industry. Tough to to when the engineers struggled doing it. I wound up with a GREAT. 33+ year career with the DoD. Very gratifying and the pay was good with the benefits. Along with trade schools the military can set you up with some very good jobs.

My whole family is praying for Mike’s salvation! I love the quote: “The purpose of opening your mind is to close it down again on something that is TRUE.” It’s a GK Chesterton paraphrase, I think. But Mike is so close to seeing that absolute Truth and the Creator are both knowable and it’s not “a box” to be avoided. Science is in complete agreement with God’s word!

The only benefit my degree had, was to open up additional job opportunities at large corporations. I didn't need it to actual do the job. I got a degree from a technical school and was able to stay employed and support my family for ten years before I got my degree. My wife was a stay at home wife. If there are companies that will hire trade school graduates, this is the best way to go for a large number of people.
I was taught in Ag class that women actually make better welders because they have steadier hand. No idea if it's actually true, but it was a field I considered for a while. I wish career day was actually career day at high schools. At my school, it was only for colleges to recruit. They need to have people in professions to talk to the kids and let them see what was out there.

"Work Smart, Not Hard" is the advice my G'dad gave me... I tried to do both & have had some success & lots of failure.
I'm finding myself starting all over again at 46yo for probably the 7th time in life, but now with a child in tow. My child's needs can't be met by the public school system (crumbling in MD! especially for neurodivergent kids), leaving homeschooling as the only "good" option.
I have a 20yo psychology degree that has helped me every day since I got it, but it has very little value financially. I'm not even in a position to go back to school for a master's or at least AND be able to afford it.
Personally, there is MUCH that should be taught to everyone FOR FREE simply bc knowing is necessary to be successful in this country. "College, isn't it!

Mike Rowe is a terrific person and I hold him in very high regard. In this interview, Mike proposed the question, "Where do we place our faith?" My response is, "Place your faith first, above all other things, in God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit." I truly believe this faith puts everything else into perspective when you feel the presence of God's Holy Spirit in your being, your mind, and soul. And there is calmness to your soul and an unshakeable faith in God in your heart and mind. There is an unshakeable faith that Jesus Christ is real and that He came to this world in flesh and blood and gave his life for us because He loves us.
When you truly truly seek to know if there is a God, He will make Himself known to you, and His Holy Spirit enters your being, and you will KNOW the truth in your heart. That is the cornerstone of Christian faith and it is undoubting and unshakeable.
I believe that God is the creator and the intelligent designer of all things, and that through the pursuit of science we learn many aspects of how He did it. For people to argue between Creationism and principles of scientific law, Big Bang, etc., makes us - intelligent, grown human beings - act like small children on the play ground arguing and fighting about whose dad, or whose ball team, or whatever, is stronger or better than the others. We are so childish and so inmature when we divide into these opposing "theory" and "belief" camps of "where did we come from" arguments. Why can't we understand that the principles we learn in the pursuit of scientific knowledge are attributed to God having done those things to make Creation???? Seek ye first the Kingdom of God... and I believe with that your first intelligent pursuit, and with that a pursuit for wisdom and education, we open our minds to understand God created all things and we are learning how He did it. It's a truly wonderful universe! It's a truly wonderful God Almightly who created it and us! And I realize that we have many many questions such as, "Why do bad things happen if there is a loving God?" And, "If there is a loving God, why does He let evil exist?" I do not profess to know the answers to those deeply, profound questions, but I do believe that, in the end, God, in his infinite wisdom has a plan for us that we mere mortals do not understand, and that He will bring final justice to all injustices, and eternal peace to humanity according to His plan. And, I absolutely believe that the Holy Bible is His holy word revealed to us and we should learn and apply its principles to our lives. I'll end by saying that I truly believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and He loves you!!! Yes, He loves you!

Mike Rowe is a fascinating thoughtful entertaining person, living a rich productive life, doing important things. Gifted in so many areas! Such a keen mind. So it's sadly ironic that he noted "you don't have to believe in gravity for it to be true"... but he won't apply that same logical reasoning to our awesome Creator God, the Intelligent Designer. If Mike grants that there is in fact such a thing as objective truth (gravity, for one example), how can he then claim that certainty is not possible, or it's a box that traps you? And how does he justify his own certainty that we can't be certain about the existence and sovereignty of God? I wonder if he's ever sat down for a one-on-one conversation with Stephen Meyer or John Lennox? That's a discussion I would love to watch and listen to!
Those were some good observations. The Christisn apologists you mentioned engage in topics that are too heady for my taste. I have listened on ocassion. the problem is we are expecting School to teach things. School should only be teaching English, Math, Science, and History. even vocational skills, but parents should be teaching work ethics, Sex, Faith, Money, politics. we have these kids and then we want someone else to teach them everything and then we wonder why they don't have the same beliefs as us.
I complete Agree that college is WAY over priced. My Architecture degree has paid off. I just spent $320k to put my first daughter through a College in Boston and am not sure it was worth it.

I would vote for Mike for President, because he is just a good guy. But by the same token, the best people for the job aren't actually in there.

No thing in existence, exists without a maker of that thing. We know that to be true of a city, of a day's work, of a car part, even of a thought; it is known to be true about every thing we know of. We can conceive of no thing that comes to exist on its own, apart from a maker. It is therefore non-sense (not sensible) to say the world exists without a maker. Additionally, to make anything, the maker must be sufficient to the task. To make our world as we know it, a sufficient maker must have sufficient knowledge, sufficient power, and be good. That means the maker must be a person; like us but much greater than us. A good, supreme Maker person must exist. And, as a Person who makes things, he must have a purpose in all he made and everything he made would have value and meaning to it. I can see no other way to think that is rational. The natural world we find ourselves in proves the existence of the Supernatural.

I love Mike Rowe and his take on a lot of things. It’s obvious he doesn’t believe God is the only answer to the Creation, and for that I am sad.
