I wonder how many of you complaining about NFC actually use their phones for everyday payments. I always have my wallet, so I always have cash or credit. My wallet carries my ID, money, contact information, and a few discount cards. I don't see NFC being a replacement for the everyday wallet any time soon for it to be a problem.

It's an absolute must have now a days, especially with chip and pin rolling out in the fall. The use of Apple Pay and Google Wallet will skyrocket in October.

There are contact pins on the phone for nfc, it's just not in the stock back cover. OnePlus will probably sell NFC covers for a few extra bucks. Also, the snapdragon 810 supports fast charging but type c does not currently, this could possibly be added in a firmware update down the line as type c becomes standardized.

Near Field Communication. It allows you to transfer files from phone to phone simply by tapping the phones together. However most people use it to pay using Google Wallet at McDonald's or other places that accept it.
The lack of expandable storage is such a pain and a bummer. It's so much easier to just pop in your memory card from one phone to the next. I just don't think that should ever be omitted. Other than that, it's sounding like a great device.
Nice improvements (besides lack of NFC and Cyanogen) and still a nice enough price given those specs, but not such a quantum leap for me to ditch my OnePlus1....

Vader...You Seek Vader! My past phones had all those and it wasn't that important to me - and it certainly isn't worth twice the price for most people. NFC is really only used for payments, which a lot of folks don't use. Wireless charging is slow and degrades long term battery life. I used to care about removable storage and battery, but not with such high capacities nowadays and QHD was just a battery suck. This thing still has overall flagship specs at half the price and that's the important thing to a lot of android enthusiasts. I generally like the Notes, besides touchwiz, but I'm not paying iPhone prices when there are phone like Zenphone2 or this new flagship killer at half the price.

It would be interesting about the long term use of this smartphone since it is using the snapdragon 810 which has been reported of having heating issue and speed throttling due to the heat. OnePlus says the chip is made exclusively for them the 810 v2.1 but that is not so due to some reports from tech sites indicating that LG and Sony used the same chip. According to OnePlus it has added extra layer of thermal gel and graphite cover and optimizing the os to work with the chip. Time will tell once it is thoroughly used.
I'm skeptical now cause the first one plus one gave me a TON of problems. And getting ahold of customer service was just horrendous. I actually went a paid full price for another flagship and been happy since. But I heard of a few one plus success stories. Super jealous.
I think the really missed out on some small things no nfc which I recon is starting to take of headphone jack and charger both in ether top or bottom and if i was being super picky front facing speakers
I'm wondering if Verizon will have support for this phone. I remember the One Plus One was tempting, but wasn't supported. Still keeping my eye on this, but the 2015 Moto X looks like more of the same, which honestly is good because my Moto X has been solid so maybe that might make more sense. Either way, it's cool that we're able to get decent handsets for not too much money.

However, a new need for a smartphone within the next month has pushed me towards getting the LG G4 (on verizon because that's the only one with good service where I live). I figured I should get close to the best now, so I can use it for many years. My sister is still using her old droid razr with no problems.
Can I ask where exactly NFC can be used? Here in the UK I don't think I have seen anyone pay with NFC or a store that takes payments using NFC. Guess its OP2 for me.

I thought NFC was just a small chip that's attached to the battery. Doesn't that mean that if mobile payments start picking up, oneplus can can launch a battery that does the job? If mobile payments take more time, it can be introduced in oneplus 3. So if you actually think of it, having no NFC and wireless made the device available for that price. Qi charging should have been there. But again, most people looking for a flagship killer at this price tag wouldn't spend more money and get a Qi charger (they don't come cheap). Just my thoughts.
It definitely looks good ! I never use NFC and I don't think it does anything special at the moment (will never pay with my phone, ever !!) And QI is not a huge deal for me. I'm really looking forward to test it :)

NO NFC?!? it's been *years* since we can use our phones to pay in "Contactless" terminals..., plus it is also useful for pairing with other speakers/headphones, etc. No wireless charging, however, seems pretty reasonable, as it's slower, not any more convenient imo, and it pretty much heats up your phone...
i dont care about no wireless charging because its not as fast as of right now, but no NFC? its the fastest way to share media and i do use it. i also use it to connect my nfc headphones and speakers. android M will fully support it with pay. thats a big set back for me

It's the first phone to have it. But, android M supports USB C. By later this year you'll see nexus devices with USB C

It's a $400.00 phone and the specs reflect that. It's NOT a 2016 flagship killer by any means. It's a good phone at a good price.
