The 10 years for murder which I assume you are referring to the off duty cop and her boyfriend right which each charge was 10 years, and that was involuntary manslaught I would believe. The premeditated crimes of the 22 year sentence guy was (1) breaking and entering, (2) kidnapping at gunpoint, (3) armed robbery, etc.; muliple crimes stacking up to 22 years, not just robbery. Big differences there. I agree though in a way as I don't think 10 years for each involuntary manslaughter was enough.

The US incarcerates people too much actually.. We have the highest incarceration rate in the world of any developed country, you would think it's a warzone out there... And we have the 6th overall highest when including the crap countries. It is too much. Our society isn't so rotten that we should imprison twice the rate of Brazil, or 5 times the rate of China for examples...
Part of this is politicians and policies... And part of this is a quite vicious public attitude we have. You never ever, _ever_ , see comments from people saying "He should get three years of prison" or "He should get five years of prison," etc. ... No, the public sentiment in this country seems to be life in prison or no prison and nothing in between, no matter what the crime is. The public automatically assumes everyone is guilty too and starts calling for life-in-prison time before people are even charged with a crime... Like Diddy, for a current example. The guy has been charged with 0 crimes. 0. Which means the government does not even have probable cause to arrest him -- and that's a very low standard, probable cause. It is so easy to get that there's even a saying among lawyers "You could indict a ham sandwich" because of how ridiculously low the standard is... And the govt. doesn't even have _that_ level of evidence against him... Yet all across TH-cam there are calls for him to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
At the same time, defendant's get tough sentences and people think it's a "light sentence" just because it is something less than capital punishment or LWOP. A guy will get like 25 years for a crime and people will be like "What a light sentence!!!" lol wtf. 25 years is no cakewalk.
It's a very lynch-mob type public attitude and it leads to our unacceptably high incarceration rates.
Side note: And there's also this ridiculous, demonstrably false rumor among the public that murderers get off easy, or that "life in prison really means 20 years" is another popular one. I don't know where these ridiculous rumors started but I can assure you life means life and people convicted of murder spend the rest of their lives in prison with little exception. Even in liberal states. Actually pretty much every state red or blue has a statute _requiring_ those convicted of 1st degree murder (the most common type by far) to spend life in prison, so the judge has 0 discretion and gives them that... I'm not saying any of this is bad btw, I think murderers should spend life in prison -- I'm just bringing this up because the public has such a warped attitude about incarceration and believes many rumors and falsehoods.

And that should apply to brain dead Judges who hand out 10 day prison sentences to a vulnerable woman who was obviously in distress. All she did was speak her mind in a situation she considered to be unjust. And, what relevance was that information to the case? Essentially she was being discredited by her ex husband before the matter in hand was even being heard. For all we know her previous situation was another consequence of rough justice.
The system is not fair. There is no such thing as 'fair' in law - there is just the letter of the law and over-empowered, ars#holes who interpret it and rule on it based on case law and their own personal biases.
'10 days imprisonment' for speaking out!. W.T.F!

Because it doesn't matter if she admitted to doing what she did?? She can't just get off scott free because she realized her wrongdoings. She has to do her time like everyone else and hope to change if she ever gets out. Simple as that.

-Hey stop joking around, tailoring is not my business. I'm a judge and this is a serious murder trial. Now state your name.
