Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Crossover Track TIER LIST | Level By Level

- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has the most tracks in the mario kart franchise with a total of 48! Of those tracks, five of them come from entirely different franchises! Excitebike arena is based on excitebike, Mute City and Big Blue are based on F-Zero, Hyrule Circuit is based on The Legend Of Zelda, and Animal Crossing is based on... well Animal Crossing. When creating a crossover it's important to make sure and keep the feel of the original franchise intact. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe couldn't just entirely make stuff up or else it wouldn't have been satisfying. So Today in this episode of Level By Level I'll cover how Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was able to create an amazing crossover between several different franchises for it's 5 Crossover tracks. Not only will I cover the cross over aspect, but I'll also review some of the track's shortcuts and their general layout. At the end of the video I'll also create a mario kart 8 deluxe crossover track tier list! I also may even mention a certain splatoon battle map later on...

Also, I love how Urchin Underpass uses Hurry Up from Splatoon in the final minute instead of just speeding up the regular music.
Now or Never (the Deep Cut version, to be specific) is the best "Hurry Up" theme Nintendo has made IMO, because all the other ones, except in certain cases like Wario Land 4, are either just small jingles, or are existing tracks speed-up.

It would be really cool if in Urchin Underpass, the results theme would either be the splatoon win theme or lose theme, depending on whether you won or lost.
I was also thinking the same thing while listening to the Mario Kart 8 Soundtrack and it's one of my favourite things on these crossover tracks. Amazing how they made the songs very on style with the Mario Kart 8 ost in general but also very faithful to their original series.

did you forget to mention that in big blue and mute city, the starting lines become boost panels after the first lap?
Didnt forget, I had to cut a few things from this video but those are nice references to the lap boosts from that game!

Honestly a single branching path would have definitely made the Zelda track feel like an adventure. Also I super agree with F-Zero being the better SNES racing game instead of Mario Kart.

I would argue that DK Jungle is also a crossover track in this game. It’s the only DK track and it’s a direct adaptation of DK county!

I love the excite bike stage so much, it is simple but simple doesn't mean boring. It is top 5 tracks in the game for me

Another ide for a zelda track could be botw themed specifically and be a 3 segment race going from thr great plato for the first segment and then the third segment would be ne of the 4 (maybe even 5 ) "kingdoms" with the 2 segment being and a section of the map in between the great plato and the "kingdom" you got to whitch could be randomized. So like you start in the shrine of reserection then travel out the an edge of the plato randomly decided between pointing towards the zora, Goron, ruto, garudo, or maybe even hyrule castle. As you make your way to the edge you go through different parts of the plato depending on the kingdom your going to then when you reach the edge of the plato you get shot out cannon style to get you kinda close the the kingdom this is where the second segment starts having encounters with enemys. The third segment would begin when you really get to the land around that kingdom so for example you would go up the mountain zoras domain is in or death mountain for the Gorons, through the snowy wastes for the Ruto, desert for garudos and hyrule castle for hyrule castle . In eatch one you would encounter a divine beast doing something to add obstacles or the castle falling apart for hyrule castle before ending the race in the settlement you were trying to reach for each one and the top of the castle for hyrule castle. What could also work is making this not a randomized track but a cup and remove the hyrule castle idea

Cool video, this might be my favorite in the Level by Level series. I enjoyed you talking about the IP tracks and the games they’re based off of. Here’s my takes on all the tracks:
Excitebike Arena: F Tier
I’ll admit the tribute to Excitebike is cool, but that’s all this track has going for it. All you do is just spam the trick button, drift around the mud, repeat. There are only 2 turns in this track, which I know Excitebike doesn’t have turns, but this track still could’ve been way better. It’s basically just a worse version of N64 Wario Stadium and GCN Baby Park.
Big Blue: S Tier
I love this track. The speed, the music, the track design, everything here was done so incredibly well. I feel it’s the perfect tribute to F-Zero, even if the walls don’t take your coins away like in the original.
Mute City: A Tier
While this one captures the speed of F-Zero better like you said, most of the stuff here was done better by Big Blue. I prefer the long journey of the 1 lap tracks, and this one I feel is way too short, and is over before it begins. But the track design is still solid, making for a really enjoyable race every time.
Hyrule Circuit: A Tier
This track is pretty good, and my complaints are the exact same as yours. I would’ve liked to see more locations of Hyrule, but instead this track just focuses on Hyrule Castle and journey to there. Other tracks like Mount Wario and Maka Wuhu feel more like an adventure. Hell, even DK Mountain feels more like an adventure, and that track isn’t even a 1 lap track. Another thing I would’ve enjoyed as well would be if the setting changed each time it was loaded, like Animal Crossing. It would probably make Animal Crossing less unique, but I don’t really care. It’d would’ve been unique if one time Hyrule Castle looked normal one race and the next time its in ruins and part of it is crumbled away. But there are reasons why this is an A Tier track in my opinion. I really like the fact a lot of Mario assets are reskined to look like the Zelda series, it really feels like they cared about this track. They could have just had the regular coins and Piranha Plants, but they went above and beyond for this. The track design is also solid, and I really feel like I’m in the Zelda universe here, making for my second favorite circuit in the series.
Animal Crossing: B Tier
This track is just eh to me. It’s not bad but nothing special. The season gimmick is pretty cool, the track design is ok in some areas but that’s about it. It’s pretty short and underwhelming in my opinion, but it does a good enough job representing Animal Crossing.

I know that this is way late, but holy crap THANK YOU for finally being a reasonable person when it comes to the actual gameplay. This is my least favorite of the 80 we have so far (at wave 4 of booster course pass) and every time I see a comment saying that this track is top tier I throw up in my mouth, so finally seeing someone as a beacon of light is nice.

I knew about the big blue cut before but I never knew you could get that far with a mushroom, I always just kinda dropped to that area with the coin pads, it’s so cool to see that’s possible tho!

I really like the transitions but make sure they're not too long. It's fine to have a lot (since they're fun to watch), but when they are long it can bog down the video.

Very nice video! I have one comment about Animal Crossing: I can understand not being able to select seasons in Time Trial. The seasons affect the gameplay, which could affect race times, whereas Time Trials are better off more consistent. Great work and list though; I really enjoy Level by Level!
Oh for sure I definitely understand why they did it, I just think it'd be neat if they had separate time trials for each season. It's definitely an unrealistic request but could've been neat to see
I thought about that too, just forgot to mention it. It would be interesting to see, even though I doubt they would do that.
I’m surprised you didn’t cover the final minute theme for Urchin Underpass, as it’s the only track or battle course (from my knowledge) with a completely different final lap or minute theme rather than a sped up version of the regular theme.
The Zelda track it's CLEARLY inspired by Twilight Princess.
I’d say with the F-zero tracks you pretty much got everything correct except later games are also known for insane anti gravity racing. And I would’ve added just one more thing with big blue and that 1 lap tracks actually are tracks you play on in a couple of F-zero GX’s stupid difficult story mode missions

In the animal crossing tracks the seasons aren't just visual as they add some things like snowmen in winter or extra ramps in spring

well you are correct in that Nintendo considders donkey kong its own franchise (because of smash) but from our perspective there basicly the same franchise (donkey kong (and diddy kong) are officelly part of the mario canon)

12:42 you can actually do this shromless on 200cc and even on 150 with shrooms but its only 0.02 seconds faster on 150cc

3DS DK Jungle is the only track I'd consider non-mario DK themed, since it's directly based off Donkey Kong Country Returns, while the rest could easily be passed off as Mario themed
N64 Jungle Parkway is a very generic jungle with a boat, that certainly feels a little like DKC 1s jungle levels, but it's different enough (blander) to pass off as Mario themed
GCN DK Mountain is the same deal, but made less DK by the fact that the volcano has a face more fitting to the Mario series that has eyes everywhere, to Donkey Kong where not a single mountain has any type of face
DK Pass is pretty similar to the snow levels of DKC3, being located within a calm snowy mountain town, but still generic enough to fit Mario just as much
DK Snowboard Cross is the worst at DK representation by having a giant MARIO statue (fixed in tour), and snowboarding shy guys, with absolutely no relation to the Donkey Kong series other than Snow

I just got a great idea for a Zelda track so basically it’s a great plateau track to start off in the shrine of resurrection and go around the Great plateau and then You finish the track off by going in to Hyrule field and then going towards Hyrule castle I think pretty cool
