I think the reason Tour tracks like Ninja Hideaway and Sky High Sundae aren’t labeled is because they aren’t based on real life cities and don’t give off the feeling of a world tour.

My nitpicks: - You can't return back to the characters, settings or tracks on the Versus mode. You have to go all the way back to the menus to select those. - Characters should flash after hitting the items. There are some invincibility frames after hits and it looks so stupid if the item hits soon after and it doesn't do anything.
(1:20) Since -most- all tracks are identical, I think there should be an option for mirror mode on time trial, but the times count towards the same normal track. -For the few tracks that are actually different in mirror mode, the should have a separate time for that mode.-
Surprised no one mentioned versus races max course count not being upped to account for the dlc. This is one i rlly hope gets fixed by the time the dlc is finished bc it'll suck if i cant play a 96 course session with every track once the dlc pass is complete
Only thing I can assume is that they don't want to be responsible for someone completing 96 courses in one sitting, which would probably take around 5-6 hours (and the undocked Switch battery wouldn't be able to last that long, even starting at 100%). It would still be a great option, though, especially after the final wave of DLC comes out.
Mario Kart 8 was originally locked to 32 races, even with the additional DLC. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe increased this to 48 when the DLC was included. But now with all the extra DLC, they still aren't increasing the max number for each releaes (56, 64, 72, 80, 88, 96). Perhaps they can't bother making this number dynamic based on if you had the DLC or not; perhaps they didn't add 48 to Mario Kart 8 originally because they couldn't bother checking if you had all DLC. So if they ever made a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Plus release, with all 96 tracks included, then you will likely be able to choose 96.

both ninja hideaway and sky high sundae were made for tour first. the files for both have been in tour for a few years now, no track has been made exclusively for 8D booster pack. they were all developed for tour and later ported.

one PET PEEVE: with all the babies in the game (some with no presence in the Mario franchise), why no BABY YOSHI?! It would be great to see baby yoshi from SMW make an appearance.
I've always thought that character variations such as cat Peach should be variations (like with Yoshi's and Shy Guy's colors), not independent characters. That was the model in Mario Sports Mix and it seems more reasonable than having two Marios racing against each other.
Odyssey in the beginning calling it pretty good and then doing a cartwheel into the Spider-Man into the spider verse universe and defeating lord licorice from candy land was my favorite part
A personal nitpick of mine is How the Triple banana doesn't form a trail behind you driver, and instead circles them like a triple shell would. When it worked the old way, it made it one of the best defensive items in the series in my opinion, and now it's not nearly as useful.
Many of these nitpicks were fixed in wave 3 and 4 of the dlc. You can now choose which items you want, you now keep gliding when getting shocked, birdo was added, with another 5 chracters being added (given you do need to buy the dlc to use them...), and I think more.
What I really dislike about the item system is that you can get super passive items at times, I usually play with my brother and I can't tell you how many times we have been in situations like getting a banana in 3rd or a single green in 5th
I missed the post but a MASSIVE nitpick I have is that there's no option to do an odd number of games in the battle modes, meaning that matches end in a draw a ton. Either make it possible to do an odd number of games or do a tiebreaker if you draw.
The item disabling thing would probably be a problem to implement, as the way the item roulette works requires them to already have separate formulas for every preset.
Funny thing is that they allow custom items now, so either they just made a general item roulette calculation, or it was always possible to customise and they just didn't made a menu option for it until now.
The way I see it, a game like mario kart or smash should have unlockable characters but also have a simple code on the main menu and title screen that would temporarily unlock all content until you close the game.

I’m really surprised this wasn’t mentioned. I really hate the system for joining a ranked mode with friends. One person has to join individually, then your friend has to follow you in and HOPE there’s a slot available. If not, then they could be waiting through several races to join. I don’t understand why there isn’t some sort of party system to join a lobby with enough space for you.

Why isn’t there a button to swap your item slots, like there was in Double Dash. You could press Z to swap your drivers, and by doing so their held items would switch. It adds so much to the gameplay.
not really a nitpick but an addition, i feel like there should be another CC mode. 150 CC feels too slow for me and my dad now, so its probably the same with other players (or just my character combination sucks) i feel like 200 CC is too hectic for me, bashing into everything and falling off course. so maybe a mix between the two and introducing a new 175 CC will be cool. i also think that CC could possibly be an unlockable or be used to unlock some other nintendo characters, or the CC could be apart of the booster course pack completely
every dlc wave is just: cup 1 -city track -random track -random track -random popular track cup 2 -city track -random track -random track -new track (ninja hideway was classified as new but ig from now on we will be seeing actual new tracks if this pattern continues)

Tbf, Toad Circuit is one of the better beginner courses, they tend to be (understandably) pretty bland, but at least this one has a bit more going on compared to the average And the Booster Pass is a full second set of courses, they don’t care if the vanilla game already has a specific theme or gimmicks (like beanstalk or traffic), they only care about what’s in the Booster Pass itself, so they probably wanted a beginner course of its own, and Toad Circuit has been in Tour since launch, so they probably went with that one because it was a very easy port
Interesting video! I agree with a lot of the nitpicks you provided. I have three to add, though: 1. Race mode doesn't show the race time. It's useful for comparing your time to other racers', so seeing it gone is withholding information. 2. At the end of a Time Trial, you only see your time, even if it's not better than the local best. You have to see what the best time is before the race starts. Interestingly, this was in the Wii U, but not Switch. 3. The minimap's color was turned to gray between Wii U and Switch, even for Rainbow Road. I really liked the flair the colorful map provided.
One thing they could do for Balloon Battle is give us the best of both worlds: Works the same way as the old games, except there is a timer and if multiple players are remaining when time is up, each player's points is the tiebreaker. This way you still have the core experience of players having to be extremely careful with their driving and item usage, without online matches taking forever or being super campy and boring to watch.
I forgot about this in the original post but I think about it all the time, I SO wish there were volume sliders for music, character voices, and sound effects. Custom sound balancing is a pretty consistent thing in games nowadays and it really sucks we don’t have it in Mario Kart. I just really wanna crank up the music! (Edit: I had a stroke typing that)
13:20 still taking up a slot is the reason they needed to have 2 slots in 8dx since regular mk8 has basically no strategy with only 1 slot like it was. having 2 slots rather than items just not taking up a slot anymore when you hold/use it leads to being too op, especially when combined with distance based items you can get a golden and a bullet in 2nd from a single item set. I think having 1 item slot, holding stuff behind you/circling around you (for triples) removes the item from the slot, combined with your idea of being able to ditch goldens and plants immediately, would be the best system.
The ability to swap items in your slots was one thing I wanted since the BEGINNING!!! This would make the game SO MUCH BETTER! Use something like the D-pad, or the X button to swap your item order. When you have a coin in the first slot and a banana in the second and you need to defend, press a button to use the banana first and THEN the coin.

I’m really surprised this wasn’t mentioned. I really hate the system for joining a ranked mode with friends. One person has to join individually, then your friend has to follow you in and HOPE there’s a slot available. If not, then they could be waiting through several races to join. I don’t understand why there isn’t some sort of party system to join a lobby with enough space for you.

Why isn’t there a button to swap your item slots, like there was in Double Dash. You could press Z to swap your drivers, and by doing so their held items would switch. It adds so much to the gameplay.

not really a nitpick but an addition, i feel like there should be another CC mode. 150 CC feels too slow for me and my dad now, so its probably the same with other players (or just my character combination sucks)
i feel like 200 CC is too hectic for me, bashing into everything and falling off course. so maybe a mix between the two and introducing a new 175 CC will be cool.
i also think that CC could possibly be an unlockable or be used to unlock some other nintendo characters, or the CC could be apart of the booster course pack completely

Sky high sundae is still a tour track and the reason nintendo markets them as new is so they can be like "buy this dlc, it adds brand new tracks!"
And they're adding antigrav, in a good way, to merry mountain in wave 3 as well as adding halfpipes

That thing usually happens on snes rainbow road, due to the riveting roads section where the thwomps are, I’m pretty sure they made it more generous in 8 DX Since on the Wii U sometimes if your too close to the edge you’ll just clip off and it would suck.
there is 1 + side to the fact that Ninja Hideaway, Sky-High Sundae (and likely Merry Mountain) aren't listened as Tour tracks
it helps us with the datamine, to see which couses are Tour City tracks and which are Tour non-City tracks

The game didn't add golden dry bones from tour in the dlc (yet) so it's a 0/10

Tbf, Toad Circuit is one of the better beginner courses, they tend to be (understandably) pretty bland, but at least this one has a bit more going on compared to the average
And the Booster Pass is a full second set of courses, they don’t care if the vanilla game already has a specific theme or gimmicks (like beanstalk or traffic), they only care about what’s in the Booster Pass itself, so they probably wanted a beginner course of its own, and Toad Circuit has been in Tour since launch, so they probably went with that one because it was a very easy port
Interesting video! I agree with a lot of the nitpicks you provided. I have three to add, though:
1. Race mode doesn't show the race time. It's useful for comparing your time to other racers', so seeing it gone is withholding information.
2. At the end of a Time Trial, you only see your time, even if it's not better than the local best. You have to see what the best time is before the race starts. Interestingly, this was in the Wii U, but not Switch.
3. The minimap's color was turned to gray between Wii U and Switch, even for Rainbow Road. I really liked the flair the colorful map provided.

One thing they could do for Balloon Battle is give us the best of both worlds: Works the same way as the old games, except there is a timer and if multiple players are remaining when time is up, each player's points is the tiebreaker. This way you still have the core experience of players having to be extremely careful with their driving and item usage, without online matches taking forever or being super campy and boring to watch.
Thats actually a cool idea.

I forgot about this in the original post but I think about it all the time, I SO wish there were volume sliders for music, character voices, and sound effects. Custom sound balancing is a pretty consistent thing in games nowadays and it really sucks we don’t have it in Mario Kart. I just really wanna crank up the music! (Edit: I had a stroke typing that)

13:20 still taking up a slot is the reason they needed to have 2 slots in 8dx since regular mk8 has basically no strategy with only 1 slot like it was. having 2 slots rather than items just not taking up a slot anymore when you hold/use it leads to being too op, especially when combined with distance based items you can get a golden and a bullet in 2nd from a single item set. I think having 1 item slot, holding stuff behind you/circling around you (for triples) removes the item from the slot, combined with your idea of being able to ditch goldens and plants immediately, would be the best system.

The ability to swap items in your slots was one thing I wanted since the BEGINNING!!! This would make the game SO MUCH BETTER! Use something like the D-pad, or the X button to swap your item order. When you have a coin in the first slot and a banana in the second and you need to defend, press a button to use the banana first and THEN the coin.
