As a tryhard completionist,Super Mario Odyssey was a dream come true. There is always something new everywhere you go,and it feels rewarding to actually complete. And the Darker Side ending is absolutely the best ending in any mario game ever. Super Mario Odyssey feels like a improvement in every way possible with gameplay, endings and uniqueness.
Eh, honestly, I do really like odyssey, but I think I prefer Mario 64, I can’t really explain why, there is just something about how the game feels and plays that give me a lot of joy
I’ll be honest, even though I mad disagree with most of this list, I appreciate and respect the insane amount of effort this must have taken to make this. Kudos.
@@Noobnity I can see why you call them bad, but it peeved me those games were below some games back from the SNES era like how Mario Kart Tour was below Super Mario Kart.
The fact that reaching roughly around the number 60 mark and we were already seeing games that Nathaniel was barely trashing and had mostly to all good things to say, is a testament to how good most mario games are
This video was fantastic from start to finish, the pacing of each section, the bold rankings, and the self awareness of the Super Mario Bros 2 doki doki backstory that every TH-cam feels the need to explain. It’s ALMOST perfect, personally I think Mario Galaxy, Mario Galaxy 2, or Super Mario Odyssey is the best, but that’s just my opinion. Great work as always.
In the original Paper Mario, it was great how the world being paper wasn’t the premise. The world just happened to be paper. It was a feature, not the focus. It was charming to be a pop up book come to life
“It was a feature, not the focus.” Nintendo can get their head out of the clouds and realize that. Just like in the 00s when Paper Mario had so much more to it than all paper!
@chuckbuskee Them leaning in on the paper aesthetic causes them to be less creative with the story and worlds. There's a huge difference between Super Paper Mario and Color Splash in terms of location and story.
Exactly. It even was called "Mario Story" in Japan. They just went bananas with the concept of "things are paper" and it really hindered the experience, more than anything. And they ALREADY were playing a lot in the "arts-n-craft" aestethics because of that Yoshi game, so it was even more repetitive
Imagine a physical paper Mario book where you could actually battle enemies with a choose your own adventure way or rolling a dice. I would go INSANE if that happened
Bro really said "and the bosses are the koopalings once again" for New Super Mario Bros Wii despite being the first modern Mario game featuring the koopalings.
It’s called a game aging. The over abundance of koopalings in the games following NSMBWII has caused their original modern appearance to be much worse when you play it 10 years later
@@thebestworst8002 yeah, but it was only 2 games after nsmbwii. I mean like, I understand, but it's not like they were used even in the 3D titles. I feel the issue is that Nintendo itself doesn't give them enough importance as bosses. In nsmbwii, they actually bothered to make original boss fights with each koopaling and actually make each fight challenging. However, in the next 2 games, they just kinda repeated previously used ideas and removed any challenge for most of the fights. That's what I see as the issue.
64DS being so low on the list is baffling. Especially considering 64’s spot on the list. It’s one thing to prefer the original, but I don’t think the DS controls are so much worse to warrant putting way, way down the list in comparison.
I agree. I've played SM 64 DS quite a bit. And I've also played a number of platformers with proper analog control. It's really not a hit on the controls to be 8-directional. When Nathaniel says the controls are extremely janky, the physics are wonky, there's a run button, little control when long-jumping, there's a run button, and turning/running around doesn't feel good. Ok, first 2 things, I genuinely do not understand what's meant. He's even contradicting himself when he agreed the controls are fine. Fine does not equal janky. The physics I remember are fine. There's a run button. GOOD. Helps with when you need finer-control. Last thing whatever, it's a feeling. I understand missing analog control if that's what you're used to. But like I said. I've played SM 64 DS fine. And I've always been very in-control of mario and been able to do all the moves I want to easy-peasy.
@@jclkaytwo Very true. I never understood the run button at the time, but I just started playing the game again last week. Surprisingly, years later, now that I'm old and not as good at gaming I find myself wishing I DID have a run button, because I keep running myself off cliffs and whatnot -_- Plus, Mario is lame. Luigi time, all the time!
I disagree so hard with most of the choices on this list. But that's why I like watching your videos. You're not afraid to throw your own opinions rather than just saying what everyone else is clinging to. Every mario game is so subjective, as most of them are quality games. Even the games I think are worse or overrated like super mario sunshine, or mario bros 3, all of them are nice games and have their own fans (you know some sicko out there thinks sticker star is the best mario game.) It's such a subjective topic because everyone values different elements in games, which mario has such a large variety of.
It's really not subjective, though. What games you like the most is subjective, but what games are best can be demonstrated through their design. For example, SMB3 is objectively better than SMW because SMW makes design decisions (spin jump, random coin placement, inorganic level design, clumsy enemy functions, etc.) that ultimately limit its depth and its interactive potential.
I’m so happy to see Paper Mario TTYD so high on the list is SO GOOD. It’s so complete, fulfilling, and just gives you those emotions from which I never feel. GameCube really did have some absolute bangers.
@lwst82 do a playthrough please. Personally my favorite character is Vivian. The dialogue changes for nearly everything depending on which party member you have out which increases its replayability for me personally because I like seeing more of the witty dialogue and quirks of each character.

If you want to make any of the M&L games much harder, avoid every battle as often as possible. Then you will be extremely unleveled when facing bosses.
Yeah it's insane, I lost to Robo-Drilldigger, the tutorial Giant Boss and who is very easy in the normal mode. The electric balls are insanely hard to deflect. Earthwake is probably my favorite, the giant titan clash and water mechanic is really cool, and despite all my raging at it, the challenge was welcome. However, I don't think I'll ever take the time to beat the X versions, as you basically have to play perfectly, which is kinda stupid. It's almost like the Mario & Luigi version of The Perfect Run
This is weird to say for me personally. But Nathaniel Bandy's informative videos are some of the best background noise to fall asleep to. It's super relaxing.
I feel like this list is flooded with bias for nostalgia, and thus there's a lot of things i disagree with, but i appreciate the dedication for playing all of these games enough to compile them into one big ranking!
Can we just appreciate the amount of effort and time it takes to put together a video like this, thanks for the great content Nathaniel, we appreciate it :) (plus 1M soon 👀)
I didnt even realise I watched the entire thing it was just that enjoyable, the way you talk in depth about every single game really shows the passion you have and the time and effort you put into this video, fantastic work
Nathaniel bandy doesn't appreciate the new super mario bros because the last 2 just copy and pasted the wii version into the 3ds and wii u but I would still rank them higher
to be completely honest, super mario 64 ds should be WAY higher. It has new characters, minigames, new levels, new challenges and the fact that the way to unlock charactets is SO CREATIVE. Idk if its just me, but this feels like a better game (in my opinion) and the fact that its portable! All this makes the game look so good. This is why i feel that sm64 ds is a really good game.
yeah.... I'd agree if it wasn't for the controls. The fact that B is the jump button and A is the attack button feel counter intuitive. Pair that with having Y being a run button at all and X being a camera control for some reason? Not to mention the awkward camera controls, I have to take my hand off the buttons to change the camera angle. Frankly I feel like it was way ahead of its time. It could have worked better if it had been released on 3ds, with the Dpad for the camera controls, A as the jump button and X as the attack, without a run button
Not surprising to see SM64 at the top but I've always believed it hasn't aged all that well, specifically the controls and movement physics. I'm nostalgic as hell for it, I got it for Xmas in '96 when I was just shy of 6 years old, but even so, it's tough for me to go back to it when I can just play Odyssey or Galaxy. I pretty much have to readjust to the controls again every time I turn SM64 on, which I just personally find kind of frustrating. Whereas the release of SM3DAS was the first time I had played Galaxy in a few years and I still felt right at home. For as much love as I have for SM64 itself, it's a game I really have to talk myself into replaying nowadays.
neat. I just have my brain switch to different controls movesets so I can feel used to every game without issue. like how I managed to make Super Mario Kart feel almost at intuitive as MK8D for me.
@@TheEPICMarioBros2 that's ridiculous dude, and I don't mean that to be insulting or anything. The idea that anyone could think Super Mario Kart controls as well as MK8D is crazy to me. Don't get me wrong, I get that older games require the proper mind set to play and I can certainly get down with that for certain games. Just because we have Dread now doesn't mean I'm not gonna play Super Metroid again. But perhaps that's not a fair comparison given that one is 2D and the other is 3D. I am of the opinion that older 3D games don't hold up as well as older 2D games but that's kind of to be expected honestly. What I do feel confident in saying though, is that Dread doesn't feel like a "better" Metroid, it feels like a "different" one compared to Super. There are things I can do in Dread that I can't in Super and vice versa, making them both worth playing to me. Even if I do think Dread is the better game personally. But SM64 on the other hand, I can literally do everything in Odyssey or Galaxy that I can do in SM64 (plus a lot more) only much more fluidly and responsively, making SM64 just feel like a "lesser" version of them. The last time I played Super Metroid, which was about a month ago or so, I never thought to myself that I could be playing Dread instead. But when SM3DAS dropped and I started up SM64 again, it didn't take long for me to catch myself thinking I'd rather just be playing Odyssey.
same. mario 64 was a great game for it's time, but got damn, i don't even think it's a top 5 mario game, let alone the best one. probably not even top 10 with all of the other bangers in the franchise. sometimes the controls feel airtight, other times they feel slippery and out of my control. sometimes the camera needs no adjustment, sometimes it causes my deaTH LIKE IN LETHAL LAVALAND OR THAT STUPID MOVING BRIDGE IN WHOMP'S FORTRESS THAT TOOK WAY TOO LONG FOR ME TO GET ACROSS
From a personal standpoint, I understand why he adores SM64. It's his passion and what defines him. But from a game standpoint? Yeah no, it's incredibly dated. Camera controls are abysmal and the awkward controls are sluggish and miserable for precise platforming. Good game? Absolutely. Top 5? Debatable when we have others like Galaxy or Odyssey like you said
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door, Mario Kart Double Dash, Super Mario Sunshine, and Sonic Adventure Battle 2 (off topic) were basically my entire childhood haha
I don't believe the arguments he made justify it at all. His conclusion is that it's so difficult that only hardcore speedrunners would enjoy it. That's nonsense. It's hard when you're not used to it, but the fact that it has checkpoints at every world more than justifies the difficulty increase. I never speedran anything, but I never had such a blast in any Mario game I ever played except for the original SMB when I was a child.
@@lordminatogaming3281 What we cannot criticize him for, is that he didn't put in the time and effort to get good at the game. What he has the patience to play is up to him, so no big deal. But Lost Levels had excellent controls and level design, and when you got good at the game, it felt awesome to breeze through the stages. For people who had played the original for a couple of years, it was super fun and engaging to tackle those hard stages. Saying it's a bad game is an uninformed statement. Just like saying Dark Souls is a bad game because of it's difficulty. "You fall to your death everywhere and the controls are stiff, how can anyone like this".
These types of video where they cover almost a hundred games in a single video instead of splitting it into multiple videos shows the extreme dedication TH-camrs have to entertain they're fans. Great job Nathan!
You know what's funny in the mario party 4 part of the ranking, when Nathaniel was showing his favorite minigames it included all of it in superstars and Jamboree. Like seriously domination, three throw and stamp out were the only three games mentioned in your video that have not been in superstars managed to make it in Jamboree.
I disagree with most of the picks on here (Especially when some remakes should be ranked higher than their original because they fixed things wrong with the original), but I do appreciate the effort it took to put this list together and the explanations on why.
The problem with a lot of the remakes is that they were also ports and changed significant aspects of the game in the process. The process of moving NES & SNES games to the GBA lead to them washing out a lot of the visuals, reducing sound quality etc. The quality of life improvements were good but it's hard to say they warrant the quality dip in other areas. Same with 64 DS (which I personally prefer cause the controls never bothered me, but I understand Bandy's point) and the Mario & Luigi games (diminished style). But when it came to Mario 3D World, the port was significantly higher because there weren't any quality dips. I've got to agree with his list on this one.
The only remake I think it should had been ranked lower then the original is NSMBUD, that game was ruined by unfunny "memes" Also, most of the picks were based on more freaking nostalgia.
@@mariajimenafigueroa233 64 isn't very good. There I said it. The camera is clunky, the game doesn't have much to it. Just bowser. The graphics aren't smooth at all. I like 3d world but the post final boss worlds are way too hard.
I immensly disagree that Super Mario 64 and especially Super Mario Bros.3 are better than Mario Odyssey and the Galaxy titles, and feel some games like Dream Team and Super Paper Mario were underappreciated compared to how other games of their style got praised, but regardless I had a blast watching this video and think it might be one of your best scripts ever. Amazing work!
@@cancerandaids3822 Better than Odyssey? Who are you kidding? I hope your not basing this off nostalgia because I can’t find another and better reason for people like you to say this. Because if we were to compare all three, Odyssey is way better in every aspect as a video game compare to Mario 3 and 64 and that’s a fact smh…
super mario odyssey deserves to be this high. i finished the game a few years ago and no matter how many times ive played it, it will always be fun. the bosses are amazing and creative, the concept is creative and fun, the whole entire game is fun.
don't you guys hate how mario's anniversary is based on his popular game, super mario bros instead of his actual first game which was kong? it really annoys me
As a big fan of the RPG's, I definitely would have ranked Super PM and M&L Dream Team MUCH higher on my own personal list, but I really enjoyed this video and the constructive reasoning you gave for each pick! Great stuff all around!!!
You missed at least 2 Game & Watch Mario games... 1. The dual screen Mario Bros which isn't about plumbing or pipes... it's about a warehouse and packages!? And it's not even obvious if you play as Mario or not... 2. And the Super Mario Bros which clearly features Mario in a platformer game. I've played the version with the "Crystal Screen".
origami king: "the music on the other hand is hit or miss" "now let's talk about the controversial stuff" hmm... your take on the music perhaps? I will not stand for this origami king OST slander.
@@bird_obsession I agree! though I'd argue origami king has the best OST of any game under mario's name, even if it lacks the grand orchestral pieces of galaxy. I've never even played this game, but its music has grown on me in a way that few other video games have.
I seriously don’t get how Arlo, Chuggaaconroy, and now Nathaniel Bandy find The Origami Kings soundtrack to be “mediocre”. I especially don’t get how Nathaniel says he finds Origami Kings soundtrack to be “hit or miss”, but praises the heck out of Sticker Star and Color Splash’s soundtracks.
@@Rediscool9 I agree. I truly don't understand why this soundtrack has been written off by so many people. it's consistently incredible. I don't even get nathaniel's statement about the overworld music being forgettable from _any_ perspective. I can name several overworld tracks that are simply outstanding. origami king has one of the most ambitious, varied, and amazing soundtracks in the series. nothing mediocre about it. at the very least, if you think colour splash's soundtrack is great, origami king has the exact same style but on a bigger scale. you can hate on origami king as much as you like for the many things it does wrong, but the music is not one of them.
Nathaniel has really outdone himself in this list. Amazing! Also, this is an extra special time to make this video. This year marks 40 YEARS since Mario's debut! :)
I remember in 6th grade, my science teacher was looking forward to Bowser's Fury when it was announced. At the end of every school day, we would look at more news about it until it inevitably released. He's such a nice guy. Good times, good times.
As someone who's played Mario Party since the second one, I rather thought the car mechanic was an interesting change of pace. But yeah, the downgrade of the boards and lack of items sucked.
Same! The karts actually made my family get more into the game somehow, since every roll could effect them. 9 and 10 were fun, Superstars is awesome too! Super Mario Party is… lacking
@@Jtv612 Eh, if Superstars had more modes , 14 characters to play with and 10 mini-games from each numbered entry, I would say it's awesome, but I think just solid.
I totally agree with you on one thing. Super Mario World responsiveness destroys the game. I remember when I came from SMB3 to SMW, control Mario was a frustrating thing. It would be an easy top 5 on any list.
@@Rafael_LMR you can have a fun time if you didnt play the better Mario Party's. Cuz 9 and 10 are just hot trash compared to the others and just disappointing
And remeber that its still missing other spin-off titles sush as the Sport games, the Mario Vs. Donkey Kong titles, Luigi's Mansion, Donkey Kong games, Yoshi games, Wario games, etc...
Yeah, but it was completely different in these games. In Super Mario Galaxy, it can turn water or lava into ice and you use it for a limited time. In NSMBW, it’s not limited, and it can freeze enemies.
Apparently, Nintendo wasn't going to do 3D All-Stars at all until the rumors caught fire. That's why it seems so slapped together, because they spent less than a year making it.
I remember playing Yoshi's Island for the first time. God it was so damn good I couldn't get enough of it. Beating that final boss made me cry because my adventure was over. Such an amazing game.
0:59 I just noticed something; Pauline's sprite has blond hair but now she has brown hair, and peach's sprite had brown hair even though she's really blonde.
i have a lot of nostalgia for mario party 10, since it was my first mario party, but i agree the car was stupid. like you said, when i played superstars for the first time it was a literal spiritual awakening. i genuinely had no idea what i was missing lol
I was expecting just the mainline games. Nathan, you're insane!!! This is exactly why I've been watching you for five years, you always but in tremendous amounts of work!! Keep going!!
3:36 That's a real bold accusation there. I actually thought the car mechanic was a nice change of pace back in 2012 when MP9 released. I've played the GC Mario Partys and MP8 before MP9 and I found the car mechanic enjoyable. However, I will agree that MP10 made that change a lot worse.
The largest problem is that it's...half of what constitutes "skill" is managing your luck against your opponents' luck. You might have a couple low rolls, but because of a previously-obtained "Double Dice Block" used at the right time you pass a star-pad before an opponent who was technically closer. With the 'car mechanic'...When every roll moves every player simultaneously, now your skill has to mitigate your own luck as well as your opponents' luck...and your opponents benefit from your skill as well as your luck. You use a Double or Triple Dice Block hoping to land at the star spot, and it rolls one or two spots too low...now you're out the star because the next player (generally the CPU) is guaranteed to get the star. Which is, simply, straight bullshit.
I liked the Games Amiibo mode and I'm hoping to get the Game Disk's Scratch fixed so I can play it again. It was more-so my childhood Mario Party. They REALLY need to bring that feature back, while also having the ability to play the classics. Really.
Honestly yeah, as much as I love the Mario party games for being challenging, it's still down to luck. It's not even something you can prepare for since even getting double dice blocks, you can fall 1 spot short of a star, meanwhile the opponent rolls the exact number needed to get it. I feel like if they took the ganeplay of super mario party and added orbs you can place, then it could be skill, but the only skillful thing is you can win the minigames or maybe buy lamps. I hate to say it but unless you can choose how many spaces you can move, luck does not equal skill. 9 and 10 most of the complaints are just about the car and I feel like it's mainly due to people who have nostalgia for the old games and want it back, which I agree those were good games, but the group making the games wanted to try a new take on the series and its pretty good. I feel like if they made another game and polished it up a bit, maybe make the boards longer with alternate paths, people wouldn't dislike it as much as 9 and 10 are
Mario party 10 isn't that bad. It's not supposed to be a competitive strategy game in which you have cutthroat competitions with friends, its supposed to be a game you play at a family gathering with grandparents who have no idea how a video game works and with people who are barely paying attention. In that aspect, the car mechanic helps.
I honestly can’t believe I watched this from beginning to end with no skips, And it was so worth it! Amazing effort and only 5K more subs until 1,000,000! You truly deserve it!
The Super Mario Galaxy games are close for me, but 1 will always edge out 2 in my books. I think you’re undervaluing the Comet Observatory and Rosalina’s overall impact on the majesty of these games. She’s a magical creature at first, piloting a ship running of Star fuel, yet as you progress you learn more about how human she is. Through completely optional segments that are immensely charming, with Rosalina telling baby Lumas her life story through a kid’s book. Despite how human she is, her time with the Lumas in space has made her a cosmic guardian of sorts, guiding you through the lonely unknown of the universe. It’s also touching to see her take pride in helping the Lumas through their journeys as stars, knowing full well what their natures imply yet still nurturing them and familiarizing herself with them. And the Comet Observatory, man talk about best hub design in any game period. The theme is nostalgic, obviously, but the fact that you unlock more layers to it the more progression you make is incredible. It starts off solitary, but by the Bedroom it’s full of life again. Little things like the Starshroom being built to Luigi’s arrival after you free him from the Mansion. Extra instruments being added to the theme, the Red Star and Warp Pods opening to the top layers, the various 1-Ups. Galaxy 2’s hub just feels remarkably worse by comparison. The worlds still have personality, but they somehow lack that sense of atmosphere the domes and overall Comet Observatory have. It’s nice to have NPCs visit your ship, but it doesn’t feel special to me. Not to mention the complete lack of that Cosmic Wonder in 2. Rosalina and the Comet Observatory make cameo appearances and that’s brutal. I get wanting to go in a new direction and I appreciate 2 greatly, but the Starship Mario and Lubba could never hold a candle to the first game for me.
HARD. AGREE. the hub in galaxy 2 is just so lifeless and lubba’s existence is annoying to me. the atmosphere in 1 is what made it special to begin with (including rosalina, of course); taking all that soul out makes the game less special. add in my personal opinion that the stages are not _nearly_ as memorable as galaxy 1, and you have a recipe for an overrated sequel that’s essentially a glorified expansion pack
Exactly. I love both games immensely (G1 is my #1), but Galaxy 2 was missing that same spacey magic that Galaxy 1 had with its atmosphere and Rosalina.
Me personally i disagree with you. In my opinion, gameplay is the most important part of a game since that’s literally the game itself. The music in galaxy 2 is also better than in galaxy 1 imo. You might say that the story is better in galaxy 1, which is true, however, this doesn’t mean galaxy 1 actually had a grand story. The only thing it has going for it is the library.

The nostalgia hits me hard whenever I play New Super Mario Bros Wii and Super Mario Galaxy as those were the first two games I've played. Super Mario Galaxy was so great that I actually stopped playing it because I didn't want it to end. No game since then has been able to replicate that same felling for me.
Same. I'd say Mario bros wii looking back it at is ok but Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy 2 are definitely the best mario games. They are easily replayable, many creative level gimics, good powerup usage and amazing bosses. You use the level gimics with the bosses which is good. Also Mario galaxy 2 is better because you have the post game of hunting down more stars and Tall Trunk Galaxy is the best galaxy, the evolution of the legendary mario gimic, the slides.
@Hamza Mahmood I'd say it had less uninspired things than U but its the worse in the series because everything in wii there is in U and there's extra stuff. nsmb 2 and the original nsmb are good
I’m glad Mario galaxy got appreciated, it’s one of my favourite games of all time and I love the music and characters (Rosalina and luma) Long story short I love the game and would love to binge it in a night with some friends or something
I played it when I was in elementary school, I’m currently 21 and Paper Mario TTYD is still my fav game to this day and I really doubt anything will beat it.. Thanks for putting it so high!
Personally, my top ten from that list is as follows (from first to last) -Super Mario World: Biggest reason was the unlockable multi-color Yoshi's and all the secret exits. -Paper Mario Thousand Year Door: This introduced me to Mario RPG's as a whole and showed me a new way to enjoy games. Mario Odyssey: Controls feel tight and I feel like there's nothing really bad aside from the repetitive nature of the moons. -Super Mario Sunshine: Had less tight controls, camera was kinda wonky, but it got me and my sister through her cancer treatment so it holds a pretty special place in our hearts. -Super Mario Land: First Mario Game I owned and played to completion. I never got sick of playing this game and the first world song will always live in my soul rent free. -Mario party 4: When you're just scraping by, and your family can afford a single console and you have 2 or more siblings. This game turns what would be a boring "wait your turn" playtime into a fun adventure for everyone to enjoy. -Mario 64: This game has some jankiness to it overall. However I still remember the day I got an N64 for Christmas and booted this up for the first time. What a wild ride it has been. -New Super Mario Bros: This game allowed multiplayer madness and had a lot of secrets. -Mario Kart (Wii): I enjoyed the bikes in this game and overall had a lot of fun with my family. -Mario Kart Double Dash: This game has so much to collect and unlock. I love how the beginning screen has the characters being added as you unlock them. Hated how hard it was to get 3 stars though, sometimes those CPU's really just didn't want you to have a good time. I remember getting through 3 of the 4 races not getting hit by any items which, for those unaware you need to be hit by less than a certain amount of items to get a 3 star trophy. The last race I got nailed by 3 blue shells and got 2nd place. Forever 2 stars... D;
@@GratefulZ Mario Galaxy came out when I was getting into Highschool. Barely have played it, it was fun but it's not really a fair shout to throw it in there without playing it all the way through. I got the trio collection that I'll play through at some point. (Mario Kart wii I played because all my friends had it so it was one of the go to party games.)
Can't believe Super Mario World is so low. Amazing level and world designs. Secrets in the levels, Star World and bonus levels, great music. There's so many aspects of that game that go unappreciated that I didn't even mention.
@@StarlightNkyra I could tell from the way he talked that 3 would be near the top, but i expected all the complexity of World to put it high, too. It is apparently severely underappreciated by him.
@@ericmilman5812 same here. In all honesty, I dont care about like 90% of this list, just wanted to see the top 10-15. Just couldnt believe that World was that low.
It’s a good day to remember that when I first played Sunshine, I got stuck at the Mecha-Bowser fight before losing access to the game, moments before the Bowser Jr. reveal, and for years afterwards the question of Shadow Mario’s true identity ate away at me. I had no idea how close I was.
Mario Galaxy is my childhood game so it is my favorite. I like the first one over the second one but I do like the concept of the green stars and the Perfect Run that the second game has.
Mario Party 2 was objectively the best of the 3 Mario Party games for N64. GameCube has 3 Great Mario Party games & MP4 which is held back too much by the lack of playable characters. Wii had the great Mario Party 8, & I have no idea what the newer Mario Party games are like because I grew up before more of them could come out although I hear the games that came out after the lengthy hiatus were awful.
Huge props on ranking 80 Mario games, nearly a top 100 XD. When Count Bleck wanted to destroy the worlds, it was actually Dimentio who wanted to make his ideal world.

I super agree.
Y'know before playing it,i thought it was overrated. But playing it,this isnt overrated this game is awesome
I will never forget how hard it was to complete the harder jump rope mission.
Still,i dont think its a 9.1/10 game but 8.7/10 is perfect
Eh, honestly, I do really like odyssey, but I think I prefer Mario 64, I can’t really explain why, there is just something about how the game feels and plays that give me a lot of joy
I’ll be honest, even though I mad disagree with most of this list, I appreciate and respect the insane amount of effort this must have taken to make this. Kudos.

Donkey Kong deserves to be in the top 60
Literally the only thing I will agree with JohnRiggs on...
I agree, so I'm assuming the poster is much younger than us. Next was Japan SMB2?
Where’s Donkey Kong Jr?
For its innovative aspect, it should definitely have been rated higher than something like, for exemple, Mario Party top 100.
Odyssey, Galaxy 1, and Galaxy 2 are also my favorites!
they are the best
I agree
So true
My top three goes Galaxy, Odyssey, Galaxy 2
In the original Paper Mario, it was great how the world being paper wasn’t the premise. The world just happened to be paper. It was a feature, not the focus. It was charming to be a pop up book come to life
“It was a feature, not the focus.”
Nintendo can get their head out of the clouds and realize that. Just like in the 00s when Paper Mario had so much more to it than all paper!
Top 3 game for me
@chuckbuskee Them leaning in on the paper aesthetic causes them to be less creative with the story and worlds.
Bowser's inside story is so amazing and I'm so glad it got pretty high on this list
Bro really said "and the bosses are the koopalings once again" for New Super Mario Bros Wii despite being the first modern Mario game featuring the koopalings.
Yeah, you can't take away points for the koopalings existing because it was the first time they came back meaning it was not stale.
@@HouseMDLover69 From the number of complaints he had it sure didn't sound like it. The controls seem to be a huge issue with the DS version for him.
which is funny because the original game doesn't control all that well either.
@@jclkaytwo Very true. I never understood the run button at the time, but I just started playing the game again last week. Surprisingly, years later, now that I'm old and not as good at gaming I find myself wishing I DID have a run button, because I keep running myself off cliffs and whatnot -_-
Plus, Mario is lame. Luigi time, all the time!
The ds version is way better . Super mario all stars is trash
22:23 I have a critique here. I think the koopalings being the bosses is pretty cool considering this was the first mario in a while with them.

Where do you disagree?
Except 64 he is obviously blinded by nostalgia
I agree. Man has his opinions and sticks to him. But admittedly the 64 at number one is a bit of a nostalgia trip. But we all have our faults
Bro so many people love sunshine and I feel super weird because I hate it
It's really not subjective, though.

22:11 really with New Super Mario Bros Wii being your least favorite New Super Mario Bros game, that’s my favorite!
Why is it so low? 😭
I love how Dream Team's hard mode is so overly hard they put a warning sign when you start it asking you if you're really sure you want to do that
Dude ikr, like I think the tutorial enemies can literally two-shot you LMAO

Nathaniel bandy doesn't appreciate the new super mario bros because the last 2 just copy and pasted the wii version into the 3ds and wii u but I would still rank them higher
@@davidthomas2044 It's a shame though, at the time of release new SMB was very beloved and the first new 2d Mario in ages. It still holds up i think.
to be completely honest,
super mario 64 ds should be WAY higher. It has new characters, minigames, new levels, new challenges and the fact that the way to unlock charactets is SO CREATIVE. Idk if its just me, but this feels like a better game (in my opinion) and the fact that its portable! All this makes the game look so good. This is why i feel that sm64 ds is a really good game.
its good but the controls are so much worse, which i think takes priority over new stuff. playing on a ds pad is so ass
@@franceskinskijYeah.
@@demifolk8940I agree.
@@demifolk8940You sure? I would need to play the original 64. Because I can't remember that the controls were bad.
Yeah, I knew Super Mario 64 would at least make it in the top 3
This is absolutely insane! Thank you so much for putting all the effort possible to all of your videos Nathaniel! 1M subs is right around the corner!
Damn when you put Lost Levels at 79 I was like "this man is tripping", then you gave all the arguments and I was like "well, he is totally right" lol

I agree. Btw, I love Mario Tennis
Id agree if you rank it on pure enjoyment but i feel hes ranking them based on when they where released
The only remake I think it should had been ranked lower then the original is NSMBUD, that game was ruined by unfunny "memes" Also, most of the picks were based on more freaking nostalgia.

I see the car mechanic as very limiting and takes out most of the skill involved.
I feel like if they made another game and polished it up a bit, maybe make the boards longer with alternate paths, people wouldn't dislike it as much as 9 and 10 are
@@onijester56 I mean yeah. But to say people who like it just haven’t played the older games is dumb.
I honestly can’t believe I watched this from beginning to end with no skips,

@@hiddekuipers7250 no way galaxy 2 has better music than 1 lmao

You spoiled the ending for me thanks
@@cocomelk123 my message is so long that you have to press "read more" to see it so if you got spoiled it was because you looked for it
The nostalgia hits me hard whenever I play New Super Mario Bros Wii and Super Mario Galaxy as those were the first two games I've played. Super Mario Galaxy was so great that I actually stopped playing it because I didn't want it to end. No game since then has been able to replicate that same felling for me.
Bro those 2 were my first aswell
@Hamza Mahmood I'd say it had less uninspired things than U but its the worse in the series because everything in wii there is in U and there's extra stuff. nsmb 2 and the original nsmb are good
Why are there so many people with the same first games as me-
My life is unoriginal ._.
Imagine having Galaxy 1 and MP8, but not NSMBWii, MKWii, MP9, Galaxy 2, or SPM as a kid
“All of the Mario Kart games”
**excludes Arcade GP**
1:19:35 I was binge playing/farming for coins in Mario Odssey within Bowser's Castle for this entire video, lmao0
I’m glad Mario galaxy got appreciated, it’s one of my favourite games of all time and I love the music and characters (Rosalina and luma)
Long story short I love the game and would love to binge it in a night with some friends or something
With Mario 64 DS, I like to put it in my 3DS, and using the circle pad makes it so much easier, still a little janky but it’s a definite improvement
I have the virtual console version on a Wii U and the controls don’t really seem much worse than the original
@@obama_man9933Have it there too.
I played it when I was in elementary school, I’m currently 21 and Paper Mario TTYD is still my fav game to this day and I really doubt anything will beat it.. Thanks for putting it so high!
Personally, my top ten from that list is as follows (from first to last)
-Super Mario World: Biggest reason was the unlockable multi-color Yoshi's and all the secret exits.
-Paper Mario Thousand Year Door: This introduced me to Mario RPG's as a whole and showed me a new way to enjoy games.
Mario Odyssey: Controls feel tight and I feel like there's nothing really bad aside from the repetitive nature of the moons.
-Super Mario Sunshine: Had less tight controls, camera was kinda wonky, but it got me and my sister through her cancer treatment so it holds a pretty special place in our hearts.
-Super Mario Land: First Mario Game I owned and played to completion. I never got sick of playing this game and the first world song will always live in my soul rent free.
-Mario party 4: When you're just scraping by, and your family can afford a single console and you have 2 or more siblings. This game turns what would be a boring "wait your turn" playtime into a fun adventure for everyone to enjoy.
-Mario 64: This game has some jankiness to it overall. However I still remember the day I got an N64 for Christmas and booted this up for the first time. What a wild ride it has been.
-New Super Mario Bros: This game allowed multiplayer madness and had a lot of secrets.
-Mario Kart (Wii): I enjoyed the bikes in this game and overall had a lot of fun with my family.
-Mario Kart Double Dash: This game has so much to collect and unlock. I love how the beginning screen has the characters being added as you unlock them. Hated how hard it was to get 3 stars though, sometimes those CPU's really just didn't want you to have a good time. I remember getting through 3 of the 4 races not getting hit by any items which, for those unaware you need to be hit by less than a certain amount of items to get a 3 star trophy. The last race I got nailed by 3 blue shells and got 2nd place. Forever 2 stars... D;
wheres mario galaxy
@@GratefulZ Mario Galaxy came out when I was getting into Highschool. Barely have played it, it was fun but it's not really a fair shout to throw it in there without playing it all the way through. I got the trio collection that I'll play through at some point.
(Mario Kart wii I played because all my friends had it so it was one of the go to party games.)
I disagree with this a lot but I respect your opinion.
@@gamer-z4p9d Everyone grows up with different games. It's going to be rare that there's going to be people that agree haha.
@@Theepieguy yeah haha. My top 10 doesn’t have any of the games on yours except odyssey and 64.
Can't believe Super Mario World is so low.
Amazing level and world designs. Secrets in the levels, Star World and bonus levels, great music. There's so many aspects of that game that go unappreciated that I didn't even mention.
And yet, Bandy put super mario bros 3. near the top, despite the game being way more flawed (I think the levels are super boring.)
Probably my biggest criticism of this list.
Just couldnt believe that World was that low.
but its music is so bad and overused and it's too hard
It’s a good day to remember that when I first played Sunshine, I got stuck at the Mecha-Bowser fight before losing access to the game, moments before the Bowser Jr. reveal, and for years afterwards the question of Shadow Mario’s true identity ate away at me. I had no idea how close I was.
oof... that's rough
Congrats man on the milly. I really liked this list. It’s probably one of the most decisive lists a person could make.
Mario Galaxy is my childhood game so it is my favorite. I like the first one over the second one but I do like the concept of the green stars and the Perfect Run that the second game has.
"Mario Party 2 is objectively the best Mario Party"
Alpharad has a lot to say about that statement lmao
Nah, it's 6
Nah, its advance
Me and my friends used to bet money on the stick minigame and what direction the stick would fall
no its 9 and 10 and island tour and star rush
Mario Party 2 was objectively the best of the 3 Mario Party games for N64. GameCube has 3 Great Mario Party games & MP4 which is held back too much by the lack of playable characters. Wii had the great Mario Party 8, & I have no idea what the newer Mario Party games are like because I grew up before more of them could come out although I hear the games that came out after the lengthy hiatus were awful.
Huge props on ranking 80 Mario games, nearly a top 100 XD.
When Count Bleck wanted to destroy the worlds, it was actually Dimentio who wanted to make his ideal world.
yeah, he mixed up their motivations lol
