I've owned a MKII Clio Sport since 2003. Started with a 172, then a 182 trophy, now I'm on a 182 Cup Race car. I own other cars worth 10x a Clio, but I can't live without one.
I bought a brand new i30N Performance in 2019 and only kept it 5 months. It was parked up most of time while I drove my 120,000 mile little 182 Frenchy back and forth to work. Still got the Clio, now on 130,000, and going strong.
Same here lol had mine 5 years now and wouldnt get rid of it, need to spend a lot on my exhaust for mot next year but other than that not costing too much and a fun little drive.
Had my 05 182 for 6 years now 130k on the clock no real major problems " touch wood " apart from usual coil packs and leads. Thinking of selling next year but it's just so much bloody fun.
i have a 172 on a 52 plate that has been garaged from January 2011-September 2019 its currently sitting at 34K miles ;-) how clever was i to garage it back then lol Its now my daily but thankfully i walk to work so its only used for SDP (mainly shopping lol) Magnex exhaust PiperCross Viper induction kit Standard throughout other than those. I do have plans though to Refresh the suspension with CUP 54mm suspension and at the same time drop some COOKSPORT springs onto the new refresh of the suspension.
@@Drippzzyyy definitely, if you can get a nice low-ish mileage 182 with good service history and both cup packs it’ll retain it value. These will be sought after in years to come as they’re one of the last ‘proper’ naturally aspirated hot hatches.

All I can say is start saving even if you not pass your test, keep for when you do, there's time yet. End Covid will leave a lot people bought lockdown wanting to shift so prices will fall slightly
had a silver one of these a few years ago, silver with a yozzasport exhaust on, biggest regret ever selling it... think the owner wrote it off within a month or so of having it 😩 was mint aswell.
@@freddieparrydrums got mine when I was 19, insurance was a bit of a joke but the car was only 2,400 if I remember correctly. Just turned 28 and I’m seriously considering adding another one to my garage before the price gets too silly. Save as much as you can bro, if you can get one before your legal do it! As long as you’ve got somewhere to keep it your onto a winner. 👊🏽
@@blackmaxbrannin7813 I have saved a decent amount luckily. I’ll try as soon as I can to get one before prices turn silly, but my parents don’t like the sound of it! They are insurance group 31 for the 172 so not as bad as an EP3.
@@freddieparrydrums maybe just get a years driving and years NCB under your belt before in a 1.2, it’ll probably knock insurance down loads, especially as a teenager
@@freddieparrydrums you can get some modified ones quite cheap but people are gonna want a nice one! Focus ST’s, Astra VXR’s and stuff like that have pretty much stopped depreciating!

@@19hmxd I understand. These cars hold off rust better. They are physically longer and wider and also have a 5th seat and only weigh 6kg more than the civics. The engine has a much harder cam change and the lift in VVTLi is amazing. The aircon blows colder and it generally is fitted together better than any Honda.
@@19hmxd mate the car compared to the Honda. Honda has driver and passenger airbags. That’s it. The corolla has front passenger. Front curtain airbags and rear curtain airbags. It has a bigger boot it’s more economical and can easily get 40mpg +. The engine has a smaller displacement of 1.8 and has less power and torque. But time and time again it keeps up with a type r. Toyota lied about 0-60 times from launch to make the car come down in insurance. The lie was 8.4 and the actuality of it is 6.6. The exact same time as a type r. And if you drive a type r stock or with the odd intake or exhaust it will be a serious challenge getting it to 60 in 6.6 seconds as stated for the facelift revised edition. The corolla has longer gears and an rpm peak power of 7800 compared the 7200 in the Honda. They are evenly matched. And the corolla is the better car. The Honda the better drivers car. The corolla is always the better car
I got a ph1 172. It’s 21 years old and the engine is still strong. These F4R engines don’t mind the mileage so as long as it’s been serviced the mileage won’t matter

182 is smaller, lighter, much better ride & better visibility, it came joint second in ECOTY 2004 (evo magazine car of the year, joint with Lotus Exige, Porsche 997.1 won) FN2 is crashy / worse ride Engine & gearbox much better, Honda shifters are fantastic & the K20 engine is infamous but not much before 6k rpm whereas the Clio has better pick up lower down so could argue is better as a daily as well as ride comfort Seats are great in the FN2 as long as you're not too wide! 182s are 18yrs+ old now and they were a budget French build so require more frequent maintenance, Hondas are much better built with less rattles, but K20s can need timing chains around 100k miles (circa £1k bill) Both may need a gearbox rebuild around that mileage but lots don't I'm on my third 182 whereas I only had the FN2 briefly, also had an EP3 & lots of others cars EP3 is much better than FN2 (weight, ride, I loved my EP3!) and have similar reliability, Civic's are more prone to rust & EP3s are same age as 182s now so most are affected (Clios much less prone to structural rust, check for damage/repairs etc) EP3 after checking for rust etc, JDM if can afford it (220bhp ish, Recaros & LSD, or get UK Premier with Recaros and rebuild the gearbox with a better than factory limited slip differential) wins for daily reliability and performance (exhaust, intake, remap circa 240-250bhp & this lowers VTEC to 4-5k rpm) Clio 182 are more fun with better steering, can be cheaper but prices are somewhat similar, engine better as a daily as more flexible lower down (exhaust, intake & remap will only get you what they say from factory, circa 180bhp! Remap from EFI, RS Tuning, Engine Dynamics makes smoother, bit more power/torque and rev limit to 7500rpm, circa £300 as don't need K100 / KPro like the K20 which will cost you circa £1k)
I've had two. I didn't think they drove well at all. Fixed rear beam, sloppy gear changes and not to mention the torque steer. Sooner have a 306 / 106 rallye, Civic and the like...
Imo best car to own atm is a 118d BMW. The one that's £30 a year to tax for a 150hp rwd car that's under 2k. Different turbo and map could easily see 200hp and a cr&p load of torque.

what kind of mileage should i look for on one of these?
It genuinely dosnt matter as long as the belts have been done they’re strong engines
I get about 36 mpg in my 182, they aren't for economical driving......they are for enjoying!

If it was a straight choice would you get the mk3 Clio 200 or a 182? I’m looking to get one as a daily car not for track
200 is much nicer to daily
But a 182 will do 40mpg and can’t speak for a 200 but my 197 does 30ish..
