    Never been a Clio guy and I hated all FWD cars but someday I’ve bought a Clio 2 phase 1 1,4 8V for going to groceries. This thing is nuts and even with that power it is incredible responsive, fast and agile with 185 14“ tires.
    I’d love to test the Clio sport and of course also the Clio sport turbo.

    Really nice Clio 2 RS and yes a turbo conversion makes all difference and does add a lot to the experience in a positive way, makes a light car like this feel absolutely bonkers!
    I agree it's all about the experience and the modern ones lack that, it all feels too easy as you say.
    Six years ago turbo'd my 1993 Renault 19 16v Phase 2 (LHD) and also upgraded it from the F7P (1.8 16v) to a F7R (2.0 16v), the upgrade from 137 BHP/160Nm to ~230 BHP/320 Nm is the best I ever did for the car, the pickup the torque and mad acceleration makes me feel I'm driving like a hooligan 😅😅
    It's now a total sleeper you almost see nothing on the outside apart from some big 4 pod black Brembo calipers that do not stand out because the 16" Turini alloys being the same color as on the Clio, also kept the full interior a big fat Remus muffler fitted a JC5 gearbox from a diesel with a loooong 5th gear so it's shuts up when driving on the highway and thus feeling and sounding like a standard car but when you open it up full throttle... it sounds amazing and goes like stink.
    Engine-Dynamics I also would highly recommend bought several bits and pieces from them when doing the turbo conversion, excellent service and good quality products.
    So is it worth to turbo your old(er) N/A Renault ? Oh hell yeah!!

    Great review, totally agree with all you say. My 182 is an extra 5% more than that one but it's more than enough, unless you fancy going through gearboxes every other month 😂

      Honeslty mate you'd love it!! Dont forget to sell your CAT on your 172 if you still have it lol. Get about £800 for it these days. 3rd party CATs go for £70 so you're quids in!!

    Any more info on the spec ? Especially making 250bhp ? Nice video ! Definitely gives inspiration towards mine

      The full spec is from Engine Dynamics Turbo Kit offering. The car was originally mapped to 230bhp. But after proving its reliability ED upped the power to 250bhp. Its a really good upgrade if you want to enhance the character of the car. Better to drive than the Megane but a Megane would give you more confidence on say the Nurburgring.

    Great video. I've seen the K20 swaps going around but all in they're around 7k.
    Mine had belts done 3 years ago so still got 2 years left in the bag before that needs doing. The gearbox (surprise surprise) crunches from 3rd to 4th when going hard.
    Really looking to do this when it comes to the belts needing to be done as the engine will be out anyway. Forum posts recommend a few gearbox rebuilders but they're years old. Do you know anywhere that does Clio gearbox rebuilds?

      Thank you for the kind words! I'd recommend AW Motorworks based near North Essex or BeanieSport based in Milton Keynes. Will be around £700 for a basic rebuild.
      I did something different and bought a low mileage Megane box JC102 I believe for £150 and it works fine. Ratios are slightly different but balance out. 9mph more in 2nd and 3rd. Slightly shorter 1st gear. Everything else is the same.

      Thats a tough one personally would go for a Clio 197 meg converted.

    Looking at the title I guess it depends on your application. If it's a road car and you want more power, then there's a valid argument to do it. If you're doing trackdays or building a dedicated track toy i'd say no. And for trackday use i'd say spend the money on an LSD, roll centre correction kit, good tyres, suspension first.

      Good suggestions! This would be for someone who is board of the power of the standard 182! Even with 197 cams (with advanced timing), decat, 197 injectors you'd only be around 192bhp. The Turbo is great if you want to transform the car. So much low end torque! But arguably you'd eventually miss the N/A nature of it.

      ​@@CarswithJay It is a cheap way to get more power definitely. I was coming from a track perspective to be honest as you mentioned that in your video. I see turbo versions all the time at trackdays and the owners usually regret it. With N/A you can spend all day out on track as opposed to coming in after so many laps to let it all cool down. I have a road going version too which is N/A so i guess i'm lucky to have best of both worlds :)

    this blue air-filter is misplaced...make sure you capture fresh clean air away from the hot engine bay ,especially with a turbo set-up..it make a huge difference..also BREMBO sells for the clio super pads and disks on auto part store on line for a real bargain.. 55$ for 2 disks/20£ pads..!!..and rather than a turbo set-up ,ROTREX has very impressive numbers for this 2L motor..

      Rotrex supercharger is something I want for my personal Clio 182. But the kit is very expensive. The air intake isn’t in the worst location. It is right in front of the grill so will get enough clean air. Behind the passenger side light is the best position with an air duct coming up from the fog light.

      They did a Clio III 1.2 TCe (Turbo). You could probably make the upgrades from that car to get more power. But honestly just save up and buy a faster car.

    I think it’s time to accept the Clio in today’s standards is relatively slow. I had a similar predicament where my 172 cup just lacked engine performance. I’d taken it as far as I could handling and braking wise. The old girl had to go and replaced by the megane 250 which out of the box picks up some distance ahead of the Clio. It served me well but onwards and upwards

      Very true. The 182 as a daily proposition is losing to 1.0ltr cars with there clever gearboxes. However it still holds its own for a weekend driver. Still a very capable car compared to some of the modern stuff (from a fun perspective). Thank you for watching!

      @@CarswithJay what do you mean 1.0ltr cars? like what? I've had a clio 172 phase 1 completely stock, and I beat a leon 1.8 tsi 180hp ( drag & rolling ) .. it's insanely fast for it's age , also clio 172 phase 1 is faster than phase 2.

      @@MrWorldWide37 It was an exageration to show that newer cars and their gearbox are being optimised for legal speeds. My 2019 A180 1.5 diesel auto would beat it to 30 around town during normal driving situations. Yeah of course if you launch it and redline it you'll win, but that becomes tiresome between traffic light to traffic light.

      ​@@CarswithJay unfortunately no I couldn't found any where I'm from so I swapped to 1.6 4 cylinders and there is huge difference in performance and I'm still afraid to turbo charging because I didn't see anyone did it online😂😅

      Pretty sure it has stock 182 cams. I heard that 182 cams are better for low boost and 197/cat cams are better for N/A builds.

    Hi jay what’s the better car to turbo low boost the 172 or the 182 which one is suited to boosting more

      Good question! The only differeence between the two cars is the intake breather, the exhaust manifold and the rear exhaust/spare wheel well. Its up to you what you prefer but you will definetely get more money for a 172 CAT when selling. The 172 CATs are a pain to take off though. Either car will do the job.

      Also what size cat back and decat is good for boost 2.25 or 2.5
