Keep at it Paul, honestly this channel is golden. It has all the ingredients to be a powerhouse on TH-cam. I won't miss an episode - just need them algorithms to kick in 👍
Absolute hero doing that cam belt without dropping the engine out, most specialists do so and charge you £600 odd for the faff. Finding a 182 even in bad nick for £100 is unheard of too these days, you're lucky to get one for less than £2k running. Get this one up to good shape and you can sell it for £5k as long as the milage is below 100k miles, but once you drive it you wont want to sell it. They're excellent, love mine
Very common VVT Dephaser Pulley issue. Done quite a lot of these through the years and yes you are correct, they make a lot more noise once the engine warms up. It’s still One of the best engines to ever grace Renault.
@K You're having a go at some for bad grammar. Look at yours. Starting with a lower case and not ending with a full stop. You are just a hypocritical idiot.
Sorry to hear that Keith isn't part of it currently, chatted to him at the NEC and what a lovely bloke. Hope you can carry on and get through the tough times, you deserve every success with it. Keep going mate 👍
Great to have you back even if it's only half the team. Things have gotten so hard for everyone at the moment and things have to change so sorry it's at the cost of Keith not being with you anymore but hopefully things will improve and he will be able to join you again I do wish him and you of course all the best and can't wait for the next video.
I learned to drive in a black standard 1.2 Clio of the same year. I don’t think I will ever NOT want one of these, early 2000 hatch back styling was great, but Renault really smashed it at this period. The performance Clio and performance megane’s are still some of the coolest looking things on the road (even if they are a little rare now!) Got a sub instantly!
As soon as I heard your description of the noise and heard it I had a good idea that it was the dephayser pulley. Done a lovely job of bringing the car round. The wheels look fantastic! You’ve gained a sub from me
As a 182 owner, that looks absolutely incredible with the gold wheels well done. Keen to see what it makes on the dyno too. Can't believe you snapped that up for a hundy, absolute steal.
I’m not really a car person, but I love channels that are well produced like yours! Really interesting to learn new things and presented in an accessible, friendly manner. Keep up the good work mate, you’ve gained a sub.
Love the videos lads, shame they’ve dried up recently. Appreciate it’s a passion of love for some of these cars but get them out in the market place, we all know it’s rare you’ll get all the invested money back but there’s people out there who will give you some good money knowing the detailed builds….plus theres those that want everything for nothing of course.
What a little bargain!, great stuff. Solving that rattle from the engine was satisfying, I love it when someone ditches/abandons something when the fix is really quite simple. I have gained many electrical goods down to popped fuses, loose wires or a 30p component on a board that has failed. I've always told the client/the giver, I have fixed it, do you want it back for a small fee?, most if not all, have said, "keep it"....nice.
Sorry to hear about your financial situation. I miss Kieth, loved to watch his expertise and the results of his fine work. Won’t you try to restore a classic left hand drive car to sell it on the continent or in the US?
Good to see a new video, shame keith is no longer with you ,he really had some skills on the paint side, And what happened to the other projects ,ie the escort camper van
That looks great with the gold wheels. Just looking at one of these as a future classic as last of the old 90’s style hot hatches, had one a few years ago but never blew me away like the 197 did. But that’s the best one in black I’ve seen, good choice on wheel colour
Soon as it started up I though "that's the dephaser" My Clio 172 did exactly the same shortly after buying it. Ended up removing the engine to do the belts and dephaser, and using genuine renault timing tools only come strongly recommended....they run like a bag of spanners if you get the timing even a bit out. Enjoyed watching this
I used to own a phase one 172 Clio. Really nice to see this 182 project. The dephaser pulley is a common weak point. I’d recommend Ferodo DS2500 pads all round and Brembo high carbon front discs from K Tec racing. Also fit a Powerflex dogbone bush kit to stop the engine kicking back under hard acceleration and a K Tec engine mounting kit. Michelin Pilot sport 4 tyres are great on these cars. It should give decent power on the rolling road. Probably around 177-179 bhp as it’s a 182. My 172 gave 167 bhp after a remap. They’re huge fun to drive.
just when we were all having fun, reality kicked in, aww bastards concentrate on keeping a roof over your head mate, make sure we are just a bit fun when things allow cracking job on the 182, i knew it was going to be gold wheels, looks even better than i imagined
Sad times sorry to hear Keith has gone we will miss his sense of humour we certainly are living in uncertain times you should get a generator/wind turbine to power the garage lighting and heating
Back in the day I had a Clio 172 cup. It had a performance exhaust and aftermarket air filter and one thing I remember about it was it sounded a bit like a diesel strangely. It was a really fun car to drive in the dry, in the wet it was dangerous lol.
Please keep at it I did email you as I knew something was up I wish Keith all the very best as met you and him a few times at the nec . As others have said the channel is golden , I’m always looking for another episode. Hope Keith will return. Maybe a guest appearance Or show us what he’s working on! How about an open day in the summer!! I’m sure we can all get the viewing figures up as it is truly a magnificent channel. Please keep going All the best Lee price
TH-cam brought me here, 1st video I've ever seen, you've done a great job on production, quality and presenting. I was amazed at how much you threw at the car, would have liked to have seen more investigation before you decided to refurb wheels, cambelt and service, but hey it works. Anyway I've subscribed and will be going back over old videos, will be interesting.
Just came upon your channel . Nice to see an honest hard working chap like yourself . Well done. Hope it all works out. Tough times for many.goodluck .
Glad you're back. Very sorry to hear about the other guys though. Best wishes to all of them. The Clio 182 is a very cool car, it'll be interesting to see how many gee gees are still there.
Hi Paul, Your channel is probably the most entertaining in my Subs list and I don't think I would be able to cope if you wasn't there anymore, It's a shame the other lads are no longer with you at the moment (especially Keith) but if things pick up for you I'm sure that getting them back will be on your to do list. Take care m8 👍👍🚗🚗🚗👍👍
Keep going with channel Paul. I really enjoy your videos. Miss kieth. Hope he can make odd guest appearance. You have plenty of support on here so keep going
Glad to see you back, Buddy. Hope it all works out and fingers crossed, Keith will be back doing his little dances. If not full time, there has to be a cameo. Great job with the Clio 👍
Keep going man your content is so clear cut and precise, there's no fakery or unnecessary fluf. You really know your stuff, your videos will definitely do better in time ! Keep it up
I knew that noise would be gone after you changed the cam belt roller tensioner pulley.Makes sense to change those components when its been stood so long.I was thinking a flat bronze would look good on the wheels but the gold contrasts nicely with the black.Dont see many of those Clios about.Nice car.Good video.
The belts were always a nightmare on these, which is why they were so cheap at one point. £600 for a belt change meant that they got sold cheaply or were left until the engine ate itself (which is why k24 swap is popular). Good to see you sorted this one properly. The wheels completely change this car.
Loved this! Makes me want a 182 as well as my 197. Thank you for this and covering everything off in one episode rather than dragging out like some creators do! Will definitely be back for more.
Bro, don’t be disheartened! First video I’ve watched from you and now a sub! That’s rare for me! Keep at it, streamlining the channel is fine! This was top content!
Keep going Paul, this channel is one of the best out there. The Clio looks unrecognisable well done. I have worked on a few of these cars and they are a right royal pain in the backside. We will all keep watching and look forward to the next one. Regards Rick.
Great video. I’ve just come across this video because I’ve just bought a Clio 172 in a similar, so this has been really helpful. Will be watching part two.
Good luck Paul. Your channel deserves way more than the 22k follower. You can't give away cars with less than 500k followers. The quality in your channel was allways amazing, and will be in the future too hopefully. Sorry to hear about the loss of Keith, hopefully he will be back soon. This Clio is a gift, I would bought this car immediately. Even staying on the European main land, this would be a journey worth it. Yes, the "new" prices for energy are a pita. I save electricity as much as I'm able to do and the heat is still cheap in relation, still time consuming. (Oven powered by wood) My labour per hour has to be raised by 25%, still not enough. Again: good luck mate
Paul hard times these are for a lot of people I'm sure you didn't want to let your colleagues go and I bet it was a hard decision for you to make I'm sure they will understand why you had to do it and I'm sure if it picks back up for you they would be on the top of your call list all the best to them hope to see them again on your channel And definitely still watching your channel Paul 👍
This video was the first video I watched on your channel and it definitely wont be the last. Great video, really enjoyed watching it with because it was soo calm without any music or distraction. Keep at it!
What a great find for £100! And only 80k miles (yeah I'm sad and checked the mot history). I hope Keith is still beavering away in the paint shop and you haven't gone separate ways. Best of luck
I'm new to the channel and glad I found it! Would be good to see more detail of the fixing process as well as the wash etc. Great job though, looking forward to more!
First time watching one of your videos. Keep up the great work. I used to have a car just like this and changed the engine on my driveway because the cambelt snapped. I know your pain. 👍
Ah tough times man although glad to see Keith is doing ok in the comments👍 Hopefully things will improve and the dynamic duo can get back together again 😁 The Clio is looking spot on great find and better result so far👍
When it was described, i thought of the dephaser pulley right away... I own 4 C2RS and had to deal with that myself a couple of times :) The noise basically goes away as soon as you start giving it some gas...
Keep at it Paul, honestly this channel is golden. It has all the ingredients to be a powerhouse on TH-cam. I won't miss an episode - just need them algorithms to kick in 👍
Totally agree with this 👍
Cheers for the brilliant comment mate, I’ll keep pushing 👍👍
dweeb
Agree with the above!!
the algo is working its magic, just found this cannel and right away I've subbed! Pure gold, love it!

Get this one up to good shape and you can sell it for £5k as long as the milage is below 100k miles, but once you drive it you wont want to sell it. They're excellent, love mine
The way this video is edited is so satisfying! I love how he just takes off the parts like lego bricks, with no bolts taken out.
Very common VVT Dephaser Pulley issue. Done quite a lot of these through the years and yes you are correct, they make a lot more noise once the engine warms up. It’s still One of the best engines to ever grace Renault.
Yep would love to see a follow up video on the Clio!
So no more Kieth ? Sad to here I really like Kieth fantastic body man and painter 🫣😔 really nice guy wish him well 👍🏻
Me too mate, just the costs of builds and bills are mega at the moment.
Sad to here? 😆
@@Itsamemario1ns6666 he also spelt Keith wrong. Twice
Hear..😂
@K You're having a go at some for bad grammar. Look at yours. Starting with a lower case and not ending with a full stop. You are just a hypocritical idiot.
Great to see another 182 put back on the road. A genuinely fun car to drive. You'll certainly make money given the £100. you paid for it.
Sorry to hear that Keith isn't part of it currently, chatted to him at the NEC and what a lovely bloke. Hope you can carry on and get through the tough times, you deserve every success with it. Keep going mate 👍
Keep going Paul, all the hard work you do is worth it pal
Cheers Steven, appreciate that mate. 👍
would love to see more of the clio
I was shouting "dephaser!" when you were searching for the noise. What a great little video you've produced. Another odd auto subscriber signed up
So sorry to hear that. But pleased you're back.
Hope someday will be back to normal 👍
Sorry to hear times are tough mate.
This was a steal and turned out sweet 👍
Cheers Big Keg, HOO ROO mate 👍

same on mine
Would really like to see it on the rolling road, always interesting to see how many horses have escaped over the years
As a 182 owner, that looks absolutely incredible with the gold wheels well done. Keen to see what it makes on the dyno too.
Can't believe you snapped that up for a hundy, absolute steal.
cam dephaser is my bet, I repaired one years ago. Oh and the gearboxes are like chocolate too, bloody good drivers car though.
It goes real well! Feels like driving a go-kart it’s so low to the road 👍
Great to see you back. Looking forward to the next one. Hope Kieth is okay, maybe you will be together again if things improve.

@ODD Autos that's the trouble with black, is it solid paint too? I'm sure you'll get it as good as it can be without a repaint 👍🏻👌🏻
It’s called black gold, there’s a tint of gold metallic in it when it’s in the sun. Hopefully will polish up mint 👍

I loved my 182. Wish I still had it now. Good shout on the gold wheels…. Can I suggest some old French style yellow front fog lights.
As soon as I heard that rattle I thought Dephaser pulley.
Had the same noise from a 172 mk1 I had.
Great motors though!
And great video, thanks.
