About Archie Bunker's Place: Archie and his partner, Murray buy the neighborhood bar and rechristen it “Archie's Place.” The Bunkers adopt their niece, Stephanie, but during the show's second season, Edith dies, leaving Archie to raise Stephanie, and, soon, another niece, with the help of a black housekeeper. Most of the action is set at the restaurant, with a cast of new characters including Anne Meara as the cook and Jason Wingreen as the bartender.

I don't see any indication of this show on TV now in streaming or whatever. Back in the day I really didn't catch much of it for some reason. Probably from newer hipper shows being on in the early 80s. If it's underrated, it's because it had so little airtime. About Archie, the network was probably intending to be more politically correct with him for ratings and viewership. I liked him on the old show and I've seen all of that. He talked very straight almost all of the time. Coarsely and off color, but so what? That's how grown men will talk among friends and in private. Plus he had very decent qualities which were under the surface, like lots of people do.

He sees one of Edith's slippers and recalls the morning she died. How he made breakfast for her and brings it to the bedroom. He said he called her name but she didn't answer. He went to her and realized she was dead. He jokes around a bit then just broke down in tears crying like a baby. I was speechless. I never want to see that scene again.

You're very wrong, sir. I lost both of my parents just 13 days apart, with their 55th wedding anniversary precisely in the middle of their deaths. One year later, my son was killed in an accident. His baby sister, my daughter, died at birth. I lost four wonderful friends in one year to illnesses and to vehicle accidents....so this scene didn't have any impact on me because I've been through far worse than a scene written by an actor and a famous producer.
I knew the actors were all alive, none of them had died, but MY family had, and that was far, far worse than any fake scene written for a television show!!

I was 16 when it aired. It broke mine too. Especially when Archie breaks down at the end with Edith's slipper and does that monologue. That's just so REAL that you can't even tell it's acting!

Stephanie missed her aunt too. I actually remember both spin offs from the original series* Archie Bunker’s Place and Gloria. I didn’t start to pay attention to the original series until I got a little bit older. When I finally did that was when I learned about what had happened to Edith. Archie continued to raise a now teenage Stephanie.Although I had never seen this particular episode. *There were quite a few other spin-offs even before All in the Family. At least 2. Maude and Good Times. The Jefferson’ s aired after All in Family.

The next day and every day, I worked there, I would go into the office in the morning, and instead of going to my desk, I would go into my boss's office, dmshut tge door sit at his desk and cry forcmy beloved wife. When I got hine, U would sit in my chair and soend the rest if the evening grieving for her. 😢
