    I have four boxwood that have a natural round shape. This year I transplanted three to a new location. These three boxwood are developing an odd shape while the fourth boxwood that was not transplanted has continued to grow in a perfectly round shape. This video has given me the confidence to trim the three boxwood back to their natural round shape. Thank you.

    Great trimming tips. I was afraid to cut my boxwoods because I thought they would die or stop growing. Now I am more confident about snipping the boxwoods into a perfect globe shape. Beautiful magical garden, by the way. I took a picture as a good goal for my garden patch. Thanks a lot.

    For a while now, I have been trying to come up with ideas for my front yard regarding evergreen elements, and it took this video for everything to click in my brain. THANK YOU so much for posting this video and your inspiration. Off to the garden center I go. Thanks again!!

    Here in SE Michigan even tiny boxwoods cost around $40 at big box stores and more like $60-$75 at nurseries! If I could find them for $7 I’d have a lot of them! Love them!!

    One of the best tutorials I've seen so far. After many tries Trimming box into a round shape remains a challenge for me. However, it looks like the secret lies in using the right tools. I'll try your way, thank you!

    Brandon: I find it a lot easier to turn you hedge clipper over, so the the angle fits the way you are shaping it easier. Might be awkward at first, but I find it to be a lot easier to cut and shape that way. Still clip the top as normal, but turn the clipper over to do the sides. Try it.

    Thanks for posting! I've been searching to see a green mountain as a topiary ball.
    My GM ball has a very distinctive V shape on the bottom half of the ball.
    Any tips for how to prune this to make it fill out into a sphere?

  • @jennifert2469

    If you want the big balls, do you just give them a little clip and then let them grow over the years without any trims? I’m stuck on how to get them to be super super large

    • @BrandonLarkRoberts
      @BrandonLarkRoberts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t trim them as tight. It will allow the plant to continue to grow.

    When you start a tall topiary such as the one in the video, I guess you buy a plant that is already tall and prune away all the branches below - seems harsh. Is that the only way ?

    • @BrandonLarkRoberts
      @BrandonLarkRoberts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      suzetteccc for the tall lollipop style topiary I work on in the second half of the video...more than likely it was trained from a baby to have a strong straight trunk. Once it reached the desired height they leg the plant start flushing out new growth and trained it accordingly.

    What is the latest in the season you would trim? I'm sone 6b southern Indiana. Thanks! PS I am one of those crazy people that goes node by node on my topiaries. I kind of like the semi-tight, slightly loose look. But for bigger I would definitely do like you are doing. I need bigger shears!

    • @BrandonLarkRoberts
      @BrandonLarkRoberts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t over think it. I’d say trim about a month and a half before your first freeze. You want to give any new growth that comes about to acclimate before the cold sets in.

  • @ikillprettythingz7947
    @ikillprettythingz7947 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I heard boxwoods are very expensive but worth the price tag

    • @BrandonLarkRoberts
      @BrandonLarkRoberts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Boxwood in general can usually be found at a affordable price. If you are looking to buy one that’s already trimmed into a topiary, you’ll have to pay the higher price tag.
